Crafty Litsters show your work!

Thanks CNC!

I've done a few pieces for my girlfriend but she doesn't want me to share them. I did a pendant with heart shaped handcuffs on it for her which came out very nice but since she wears it it's a no show....

Ooooh MarkFL! Your work is glorious!!!!! I have a good friend who's a bone carver. It would be a kick to put you two together on a project. :)

If you're willing, would you please PM me with the price for a barn owl like the one you posted? I'm madly in love with owls, especially 'barnies' and your piece made me squee and run to Master "pleasepleaseplease". :)

Those are gorgeous! You have a beautiful hand. I've seen so much clumsy scrimshaw, and these are not that. :rose:
hi all,

I am a scrimshander and reenactor.. I mostly do custom work on powderhorns for black powder shooters (I know pretty esoteric) but I love doing the work. Here are a couple of pieces I've done in the last few months[/IMG]
<snip>
Hope you enjoy...
This one, though-- won't she hang upside down when the shooter wears the horn across his body? I am positive you had a reason for orienting her that way, I wanna know. :)

regarding online shops: 1)It can be real cheap to set up your own shop. -- you will need to set up a domain and find a webhost, of course. You can go with a very small contract for the longest time. ipage.com runs great deals all the time, godaddy is reliable. I do things on the cheap at all times, myself ;)

There are a number of no-charge cart softwares, which you can host and for some of them the learning curve really stinks. But others are easy. Prestashop is great, although once you've set up the free basic site, anything else you want will cost you-- not necessarily a whole lot. Changing the way it looks is hard to do though.

My favorite is to install a wordpress site, which most hosts love because they play nice with so many different linux flavors, and from there you can add one of about a hundred shopping cart plugins. Right now I'm messing around with one called jigoshop since so much of what I sell is one item and then never again, I want something that I can create a listing for on the fly.

Weebly has finally created a shop function, but it's awfully crude. If you want marginally less crude you have to pay...

umm... I donno, ask me questions?

Stella,

Thanks for the nice compliment. I try to turn out stuff that I can be proud of. This image is one that I've had in mind for quite a while but didn't have either the canvas or the skills to execute it. I'm happy with how it turned out (even with all the mistakes). That's the thing about this art form...while it's true that you can erase it is a major pain in the ass. So for all intents and purposes lets say you can't erase. You also can't see what you've done until you ink it, so I ink constantly.

No she won't be upside down. The image is on the outside curve of the horn. It's a right side carry. The mermaid is on the inside curve of the horn situated such that the owners name can be read while from left to right while it's being carried.

Thanks for the suggestions about online stores. I have a website which I'll share with you in a pm if you want to see it. Right now I mostly do custom work and I have a 14 month waiting list. This work is time consuming. In the "sea Monster" horn I have 60 hours in the engraving alone. Close to 100 hours in the project. Each piece I do is unique and is never reproduced.

Again, thanks for the kind words

Gotcha. So the owner can flip the horn over to flash the naughty lady at his envious friends... and then hide her from the disapproval of the preacher's wife ;)

You are welcome to share your website in this thread, I think. But I'llPM you anyway

Nifty! Are you a Jerzy Grrl? Just curious. I've spent many wonderful summers 'down the shore' or canoeing in the Pine Barrens.

Nope I'm a Texan. I usually tend to draw or sketch stuff like that, it has always caught my attention.

I started this in umm... June? thinking I could make it fast, because how hard could it be to sculpt fish scales?

I'm such an idiot.

Anyway. I might be able to get my first cast going by the end of this month maybe.

Well, it could be, but mermen keep their fins furled down tight for human lovers.

Mermen are just good like that.

I do hope you know I meant dangerous in the best and kinkiest way possible. It's also extraordinarily beautiful.

There's Artfire. They don't seem to get as much traffic and they're kind of weak on self-marketing but if you do your own promotions through Facebook and Pinterest it can be worthwhile. At least for now, selling through a business page on Facebook has been working well for many of the bead makers and fiber artists I know. Pinterest doesn't have a policy on selling as of yet, but I know that for some of the bead groups on FB it's come under consideration as a backup plan if selling on FB blows up. I think Pinterest could be a very powerful tool. I need to shoot some good pix and I'll be taking the leap there very soon.

Some blog sites also allow (or are blissfully unaware) selling. Check the T&C closely.

I figured out that my square credit card reader, translates to an online market and can be embedded into my blog etc.

What's really cool about this is that when I do live shows, and I sell a certain item, I can click on it, sell it, and it takes out of the market. So it will be easier to manage inventory.

A plug..... For whatever needs plugging.

Just for the fun of it, I 3D printed a plug, then used it as a pattern for an aluminium casting.

It still need a bit of polishing, but I'm pretty satisfied.

After a bit of sanding and sawing:

Ok, for what it's worth I really have a weakness for bronze. It's not just a lovely alloy of metals but the history of the use of bronze is quite fascinating. The Roman empire used bronze not only for weapons but for engineering projects and statuary.

I am unaware of any use of ancient Roman bronze in the manufacture or use of butt plugs. :(

I suppose I should show my latest bit of artwork. I'm doing a stencil of this image.. not my own image but I am in the process of learning the techniques.
