Perhaps, but I move slowly on the dating scene. It might be June before I go on a date and by then, in my neck of the woods, the ice is gone except for in my drink.

Yeah, I've been on CM about a week, it's entertaining but seems useless if you want something real.

In 2 months I found about 6-7 people on CM after I discarded the players and people on the other side of the world. Not all are local but some are willing to travel an hour or two. I actually met only 2 so far but a few others I am pretty sure I will meet when I go back home. Croatian guys dont chicken out once you exchange names and phone numbers, took me moving to Germany to realize there are actually men who dont have balls to move from online/phone to rl. Every single person I arranged meeting with while I was back home was for real and showed up, though that doesnt mean we were good matches for something more than a coffee and talk.

Well most of the mails I get are wank fodder too but I discard them without paying much attention. I dont answer at all if I can see where is it going and you can pretty much predict in first mail. Delete, go on.
I dont really count much on those who contact me, I am more interested in those I contact myself. I put location, gender and age in search option and read profiles. When I find one that looks decent I just write them a short message about something interesting I read in their profile, or comment on something I disagree with or some kind of humorous/tease remark. I give them a line to pick on and get a conversation going and I steer well away from any kind of sexual themes. If I find something I dont really like about them, I just honestly say I dont believe it could work and move on. I try to be open and sincere all the time.
Most guys react really positive on such approach. There are those who dont or those who dont even answer back but generally when I start and keep the mail exchange going I more or less have control over its course and I dont let it go into cyberland jerkoffs.
There is just one person I have some sort of "what you like sexually" kind of talk with, but that convo started on the point that he only wants to make friends and talk, no playing, and he actually lives in my hometown and we have coffee arranged soon I get back home. It is still an intellectual discourse about our preferences and not a wank fodder though.

I have to sadly (and happily) agree with this.
Sadly because I have been on the net even longer than that, and I've been hearing that same um... "concerns" and "feedback" from girls/women since pretty well the first day.
Happily though that does make it easier for any man taking the time to write a semi-cogent email with (at least an attempt at) proper grammar. Throw in some common sense and it's amazing how well people will respond.
I've been here a few weeks now and I am still in the "sit back, pay attention, and get a feel for the tone of the site" stage. Hopefully with a few more weeks I will have a better sense and be a bit more active (if life allows for it), or else I will find something else to do.
At the end of the day, all I can do is control my own actions and either way life will go on. If nothing else, I hope to have improved my understanding of folks a bit more, and possibly improved my ability to communicate as well
Just my $0.02 (Admittedly Canadian money, but we are hovering around par with the US dollar so that shouldn't matter now)
