End of Story Request to Comment?

On the old Hubs, you can see the amount of votes by putting the cursor over the star. I noticed comparable incest stories (similar views) getting way more votes than me. What they had in common is that they asked for people to vote. When I started asking for votes, it went up.

As for the request above, to me, simple is better. I'm not a big fan of authors writing too much on the story. I feel it takes away from the story text and looks tacky.

With LW, the stories often deal with varieties of betrayal and consequently some of the chatter around LW can be pretty nasty, esp when it gets into BTB territory.
The problem with SF&F is that it is dogged with cliche. As CS Lewis is said to have remarked to JRR Tolkien, “not another fucking elf.” It’s hard to invent a different yet consistent reality.
Erotic Horror is pretty specialised stuff. 5k stories out of the prox 600k on Lit means a small target audience and not a lot of what you might call ‘passing trade’. Which is a nuisance, because I’m collaborating on a story in this very category at the moment.

Yes, some of the LW comments are pretty far out there. I had one where the reader wanted the husband to go postal, starting with his floozy wife and the varsity jocks she is screwing around with. I've had others where readers hoped characters would die of cancer or AIDS.

Still, with LW at least you get feedback and some of the comments there are reasonable, and they do actually read the stories. For example in one of my stories the husband narrator is an unreliable narrator, and the readers did pick up on this. It didn't make them like the story more - in fact the opposite was true - but they did notice this.

Incest Taboo readers I find are the least open to new ideas and story themes. For example, I wrote one story narrated by an 18-year-old guy who after numerous behaviour problems and minor brushes with the law is sent interstate to live with his fundamentalist Christian aunt and uncle, who have 18-year-old twin daughters. While the young man does see and mend the errors of his ways, he keeps perving on his pretty cousins despite trying to resist the urge to do so. However what turns him on most about the girls is that they are virgins and along with their boyfriends have taken abstinence pledges. He never makes any attempt to seduce one or both of the twins and has no real desire to have sex with them, but rather engages in secret voyeurism like up-skirting, going through their underwear drawers and sniffing their panties in the laundry hampers, fantasizing about them when they are undressing or showering and spying on them when they go to the toilet or are having their periods. I thought that the main attraction of the narrator to his cousins being their virginity and therefore only engaging in voyeurism with the two girls was a different sort of idea, but the readers there didn't like the story and said so. I've had other original story ideas in this category met with similar negative comments.

With Erotic Horror and Sci-Fi Fantasy stories you really have to use your imagination to write them, so lack of feedback whether good, bad or indifferent is extremely frustrating. Like in one of mine, an abusive husband/father becomes so angry at his slacker son that he chases him, and succumbs to Spontaneous Human Combustion while doing so, exploding into flames in front of many witnesses. Stories involving SHC wouldn't come up every day, so not getting any feedback on a different idea is discouraging.

In this case, if the young man in question had been perving on unrelated girls then the story would definitely E/V or Fetish. But because he was perving on his cousins, the story immediately defaults to IT, with IT perhaps the biggest trump category among the stories.

Wow, I thought this would be placed in IT by the site administrators. Although in recent months I have noticed more and more stories that by title and description alone don't belong in the categories where they are posted. Not just ones that by nature overlap like Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Erotic Horror and Non Human, or Loving Wives and Group Sex; but far out stories in Erotic Couplings, stories with incest in Fetish and so many different types of story in Mature other than age gap tales that it is hard to work out what this category is really for.
