Too true - I've been long gone, and just getting back into the schwing of things. I'm going to do nanowrimo this year again along with other writers from Lit. I need more illustrations for inspiration.
You know, for a lot of poets and writers, pictures may say a thousand words, but we can't help but try to increase that number by saying all the words a picture inspires. A good picture is provocative for a writer, we can't resist the temptation to write something as eloquent as what we see.
In an erotic illustration, there's a lot more than an unclothed body. There is the expression and attitude of the person, there are a lot of questions; what is going through their mind, what are their feelings, how have they come to this point? People who look at art may ask these questions silently as they glance at or study what they see. Writers compulsively put those questions on paper and explore the possibilities.
Sometimes the writer, stumbling, tries to pose the image in their mind to an artist. The artist in return produces a sketch of what they think the writer has in mind. Then the magic happens and when the writer sees the sketch, all those vague descriptions suddenly become highly defined and the writer has only to report the story they see.
I have a lot of respect for the artists who are accomplished and the artists who are just beginning. The talent of seeing something in your mind and putting it on paper is always exciting to see.
So keep drawing out there - I need some more inspiration.
