For Those Who Might Be Wondering Why We Might Be In Ukraine

Republican shenanigans in Congress? Also, and more to the point, because the US have overreached in playing world police. Fighting on too many fronts is never wise, even if you're apparently all powerful. US imperial might was never stronger than around 2002-2003, and look at how Iraq ended up and how it massively boosted Iran's power across the entire region. US imperial power is far weaker now than it was then, yet Biden has the US blundering into wars all over the place, from Ukraine to Israel to Yemen, and he obviously has eyes on Iran and China too. He also seems to view Russia as if it's the 1950s or 1980s.

Seeing as you’re obviously a Russian troll:

I would support a covert funding operation that circumvents congress to keep funding the Ukrainian’s destruction of the Russian military and the Russian economy.

Fuck Russia to hell.

SHOCKER: $40 Million Earmarked for Military Ammunition Stolen by Corrupt Ukraine Officials

By Jim Hᴏft Jan. 29, 2024 7:15 am

“After receiving the funds, the company’s management transferred part of the money to the balance sheet of a foreign commercial structure that was supposed to deliver the ordered ammunition to Ukraine,” the statement said.

“However, it did not send a single artillery shell to our country, and took the received funds into the shadows, transferring them to the accounts of another affiliated structure in the Balkans.”

The fraud is a blow to Ukraine’s military efforts and its reputation among international allies, notably in Washington and Brussels, where ongoing discussions about European Union membership and continued financial and military assistance are sensitive to issues of governance and corruption. The SSU claimed that the embezzled funds were from the state budget, not foreign aid.

The SSU’s investigation has led to the issuance of “notices of suspicion” to five individuals, a precursor to formal legal proceedings in Ukraine. Among the accused are former and current officials from the Defense Ministry, including Oleksandr Liev and Toomas Nakhkur, as well as Yuriy Zbitnev, head of Lviv Arsenal and a former presidential candidate.

Well, Ukraine is the most corrupt nation in Europe.

No. That’d be Russia.
It's probably the UK, particularly with all the aristocratic institutions there, and the fact that they've had centuries of practice to perfect the systemic corruption, with no serious invasion of their country since the Normans in the 11th century. In fact, one could make a case for the UK being the most corrupt country in the world considering how power is so centralized in the City of London and the poverty of the country's regions. Even in the US, there's a diversity of power between different major cities across the nation that simply doesn't exist in the UK where it's so concentrated in London.

………….you could just avoid these tedious meanderings of your mind and Google it. It’ll confirm, like I told you in the first place, it’s Russia you fucking clown.

Can’t you get it that when you laugh at easily proven facts it’s you who looks a proper flat earther ?

Russia, closely followed by all the countries that were once run from Moscow and are now at various stages of getting out from under……y’know, home of the workers revolution and all that you hold dear.

The UK, for fuck sake ?

Aristocratic institutions“ ? Just because we didn’t shoot them in the basement like the Romanovs doesn’t mean they’re still running anything but polo and grouse shooting. We dealt with that when Charles 1 got beheaded, when the USA wasn’t even an idea.

The EU unanimously approves 54 BILLION EUROS for Ukraine’s defense.

👍

Putin and Russiaguide simultaneously soiled their Depends upon hearing the news.

👍

Meanwhile:

Putin’s orange puppet and "republican" traitors in congress continue to block U.S. funding for Ukraine’s defense, (and Israel, Taiwan, the southern border, etc) that would really make Putin and Russiaguide soil their Depends.

Don’t want to pour cold water on this, but what the EU nations say they’ll do and what they actually deliver are prone to be two entirely different things.

On the whole they’ve been happy to keep their hand in their pocket on defence spending. It shouldn’t need Trump to make an issue of that.

The Germans alone, prime offenders in the underspending category, could have crippled Russias effort in Ukraine if they pulled their support for high end engineering, machine tooling, associated IT support etc.

I’m realistic about the situation.

This unanimous approval of aid to Ukraine is better than the alternative.

Putin’s orange puppet and "republican" traitors in congress ARE blocking Ukraine aid.

Germany IS playing "the game" in this post Covid / Ukraine war economic environment - like all western nations are. So yes, Russia is benefiting from some German tech and support, but at a significant cost.

*nods*

How very stupid of the EU, and anti-democratic. While millions of people across the European continent struggle with food, bills and living standards, the EU throws €€€€€ into the black hole in Ukraine.

Germany has played this game too often and too long. The failure to pay for their own defence - whilst all the while running an economic powerhouse - has been a scandal for decades.

We all get it why a massive standing German army is off the table - but that’s not an excuse for not footing their share of the cost.

And their track record, like France, for supplying potential adversaries with shit that can come back and bite isn’t great - Saddams first port of call long after he’d ceased to be a useful bulwark against Iran, and a regional menace and WMD meddler.

Possibly they see an iremovable right wing demagogue invading a neighbour - on account of their not knowing their place - and consider it worthwhile to at least be seen to be putting up some financial resistance?

The invasion of Ukraine and its fall-out has contributed as much as anything to the very problems you’re wittering on about……food and fuel price inflation, economic instability.

And as the people of Russia struggle with the same problems do you think they’d be thrilled at the lump of GDP their Mexico sized economy is hurling at trying to gain a yard or two in some no man’s land outpost in the Donbas ?

WTF do you care about democracy anyway - the moment we ever get your kind of government that’ll be the last elections we have……..no different to what Trump imagined for himself.

From what I’ve gleaned from your comments, you’re from the U.K.??? Am I correct???

If so, I get your frustration, but I also suspect you have some inherent bias against Germany and possibly the entire EU. (I could be wrong)

Look, every nation has been scrapping and clawing since forever, and the only reason I specifically mentioned this - post pandemic Ukraine war reality - is because I’m trying to stay in the present with its unique challenges and dynamics.

Rehashing does little good in the current situation:

The EU passed a massive Ukraine Defense package.

I am pleased about that ^ , and what it might portend for the U.S. Ukraine Defense package, AND for the positive message it aends to the Ukrainians, and the defiant message it sends to the Russians.(and China, North Korea and Iran.)

Full stop.

Yes, from the UK. Not anti EU by any means - it has its defects but that’s inevitable given the compromises involved.

And there’s no inherent Basil Fawlty type anti German wartime overhang I promise !

Got lots of admiration for how they go about their business tbh, but my criticism here is very narrow and limited to their Governmental willingness to shelter under a subsidised umbrella they can well afford.

Its prima facie immoral, particularly against a current as well as recent historic background of working in the shadows to enable regimes they publicly distance themselves from. Companies like RhineMetal, as well as your own Haas, have been outed for continuing to supply services that, if sanctioned, would have put Russia right up against it. It’s a governments responsibilty to impose that sanction of course, not the companies.

But on the whole I agree it’s a positive step, particularly whilst the US has its hands tied.

The USA's billionaire warmongers, you mean.

Putin is the worst (and richest) warmongering billionaire in the world.

Putin is probably such a greedy, angry and aggressive warmongering POS because Putin is so small in stature.

Classic little dog complex.

No he isn't.

He's doing it because Ukraine is defending itself against Russian invasion and is in need of more weapons.
So why doesn't he just send the arms to Ukraine, why do it through Greece?

Yah, that's a tough one to figure out.

No idea ¯\(°_o)/¯

You're really on top of this. 👍
He is afraid Russia will conclude about us what we have concluded about Iran supplying its proxies. Going through Greece however, will not change that calculus.
