girls with tattoos... how much is too much?

I don't mind the tattoos at all... They can be very hot and sensual. But this is way too much for me (looks messy and weird):

ah bonnie rotten.

I love this woman. I don't know why :D

it is a false myth that if you have a tattoo you can't be buried in a jewish cemetary. totally false.

Sorry to everyone for this entirely unsexy post. But as a Jew and a tattooed person I thought I had to respond.

Leviticus 19:28: "'You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves:"

Now, while there is no actual prohibition stating that you can't be buried in a Jewish cemetary specifically because you have tattoos, it is well established that there is a biblical prohibition against them. There are multiple reasons for this prohibition, from cleanliness, to the covenant, to the fact that many idol worshipping societies at the time used tattooing.

So, that's not really the point though, and I'm not really going to try discuss the origins of the bliblical prohibition. The answer is about being buried. As I mentioned, this is likely only the case for more Orthodox cemetaries. It is not an inherent prohibition in being buried in the cemetary, but it is a denial of allowing someone who willingly broke the prohibition to be buried in the cemetary.

So, while it isn't something that will automatically exclude you, there are a most certainly groups (probably not the majority), who will in fact exclude you.

Now, like every Jewish thing, you can find answers on every single side of this, often long involved ones. That's not really the point. I just wanted to point out that while not a guaruntee, its not quite a myth either.

you're awesome :)

If it looks like a 6 year-old with an unlimited supply of random stickers decided to decorate her barbie...you have taken it much too far.

You only get one body in this life and if your tattoos do not look like the entire body of work was planned or evolved together...

...might as well just get a sharpy and start scribbling.

I have seen full sleeves that retained a lovely, feminine apperance.

I have a friend that to most people she looks like a blank canvas..she has a full dragon on her back with its tail curled about one cheek...it flows with her lithe lines.

So it depends.

...and no...having a "special meaning" for a poorly placed or executed tattoo doesn't really improve it.

I had an acquaintance who lived out in the country...she was a very good heavy equipment operator; modest about it. She would climb down from her rig, big as a house, this tiny, little girly thing. I mention it because she by no means had a rocker/bad girl vibe about her. Close to my age, with a vibe she has some history..

In that area as far as I knew there was only one Jewish family. So it isn't as if attending a synagogue was an actual option.

Slender, lithe, pretty girl. She had a number of tattoos.

She had a star of David about the size of her palm on her neck. I always thought that odd. Showing devotion to her faith in a very public way in a manner prohibited by her faith.

does circumcision count as cutting?

No. Considering that's "part of the covenant." Its also one of the arguments against tattooing that I believe you will find in the Talmud. The gist of it is "This is what was prescribed by god, so who are we to cheapen it by making other marks on our flesh?"

I feel really excited to have started this conversation, and like a terrible jew for not having anything to contribute.

of course... the bacon I ate this morning might have something to do with it too.

Hah. Well, if it makes you feel any better, between your hip tattoo and the dermal piercings, you have contributing way more to this conversation than me. And wayyyyy more sexiness. :)

I am sure this is explained better somewhere in the Talmud. But at least on my end part of this is the fact that is is likely that Leviticus was written about 300 years after Genesis (although Genesis and Exodus also have redactors / editors from this time period too. Although it is possible the part of the covenant was put in by them.

Anyway, long story short, it is likely more about differentiating from the Pagan / Polytheistic tribes of the time than anything else.

I got my first tattoo of the summer... but it's probably not my last.

again, I'm not posting pics of ME, but I can share the picture I got the idea from :)

this is the gallifreyan phrase I got on top of my right foot. I got it because of how it LOOKED, not what it says... so if you know, and it's something embarrassing, don't tell me. :)

the more tattoos on the woman the better! I wouldn't care if she was completely covered.

Summer is over, and i got a few more tattoos.

I got a pair of tiny bows high up on the back of my thighs, and an even tinier one.... elsewhere :)

No such thing as too much

My progression of loving tattooed women has got the point that I'm starting feel like they're the only thing that turns me on

For me too much would be if you go out to a formal event and not be able to hide them enough where you are comfortable. Most of yours sound like they are in concealable place where when you are at work or out on the town you are covered. but once someone gets you in the bedroom you show them the art.

sounds like a good balance of classy and edgy.

most of them... my ankle tattoo is obviously visible unless I'm wearing socks.... and a lot of my sexier evening dresses show off my back... but it's very tasteful, if I do say so myself.

As with so many things in life, quality over quantity. I like a girl whose tattoos are clearly a work of art. But it they're just a mishmash of ribbons on the back of the legs, tramp stamp, Chinese characters, and an old boyfriends name, it's not a good look. Everything should fit together, or at the very least not look like it in no way belongs together. Once that happens, you can cover a whole bunch and make it sexy.

I'm glad I stopped when I did last summer, now that I have to be an actual grown up with an actual job, having a whole bunch of tattoos would be weird.

not that they're not allowed, or anything, but it would just be weird getting into the right head space.

I think tattoos on a woman can be very sexy and I think how many or how few depends person to person. I agree with others who have posted about them being "messy" of cluttered. Personally I think that looks a bit more trashy is you will. If it's in the form of a thought out well designed sleeve or something like that though, a combination of tattoos can be sexy. I have a couple tattoos, and my opinion of this is for guys and girls, but I like the thought of being able to keep them covered if needed. You never know.
