god held a traffic sign
all day,
smiled at all the cars
and lit way too many smokes,
she had a brown face
and the jailhouse tatoo
visible on her hand
as she waved and
her long native hair
blew back
to the casino
where she placed
her bets on him
and a happy life.

god accepted herself
and decided, practiced kindness
as the sun fell over electric wires
and a mosaic of mystery.

I know who this is about. :)

God is a human concept. Creation is not a concept of god.

'Religion is but a desperate attempt to find an escape from the truly dreadful situation in which we find ourselves. Here we are in this wholly fantastic universe with scarcely a clue as to whether our existence has any real significance. No wonder then that many people feel the need for some belief that gives them a sense of security, and no wonder that they become very angry with people like me who say that this is illusory.'

Fred Hoyle
The Nature of the Universe

So, you disliked my quote from "Psalm 14:1" (King James Version), and therefore resorted to quoting a man (Fred Hoyle). Well, allow me to quote a man then, Stephen Hawking. This quote comes from "A Brief History Of Time: From The Big Bang To Black Holes" by Stephen Hawking, The Bantam Trade Paper Edition / June 1990, pages 126, 127.

...In the hot big bang model described above, there was not
enough time in the early universe for heat to have flowed from
one region to another. This means that the initial state of the
universe would have to have had exactly the same temperature
everywhere in order to account for the fact that the microwave
background has the same temperature in every direction we
look. The initial rate of expansion also would have had to be
chosen very precisely for the rate of expansion still to be so
close to the critical rate needed to avoid recollapse. This means
that the initial state of the universe must have been very carefully
chosen indeed if the hot big bang model was correct right back
to the beginning of time. It would be very difficult to explain why
the universe should have begun in just this way, except as the
act of a "God" who intended to "create" beings like us.(emphasis mine)

Mr. Hawking was saying that everything had to be so "perfect," so "precise," that it would be impossible for all of the complexity of this universe to come into existence by "pure chance," from something as illogical as a "Big Bang," like the universe was some big firecracker. It's a fact, you cannot get "order" from "chaos." You cannot get life from dead matter. Life produces life, and that is a fact of "science." It's one of the laws of Thermodynamics, which Mr. Fred Hoyle evidently never let sink into his brain. That law basically says that "dead matter cannot create, cannot reproduce itself," therefore meaning that all life comes "from life," including us. And, like produces like, meaning a dog cannot produce a cat. Everything has an order. So, to say that the universe came into existence by a big explosion (Big Bang), and then just settled and "formed itself" into this complex universe today, would be like saying that the Webster's Dictionary came into existence by an explosion in a print shop, or a Timex watch was produced because some person took dozens of little parts and threw them in the air, and when they landed on the ground, wow, a Timex watch had formed. Or, lastly, it would be like saying that a piece of paper is put on a table, and over a period of time forms itself into a paper airplane. Sorry, paper cannot be formed into a paper plane, unless an intelligent being picks it up and forms it as such, which is another fact of the universe, and that is "mind and matter." Since mind is a "living entity," and matter is "dead" (no life ), and cannot produce itself (according a law of Thermodynamics), then it simply has to be the case that a "supremely intelligent mind" created all that we see, namely God.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with
God. All things were made by him; and without him was not
any thing made that was made. (John 1:3, King James Version)

You say god exists, I say he doesn't. Since one can't prove a negative I can only stick to my position. However a positive can be proved so it is up to you to prove god exists, now prove it.

As for there having to be a unique set of conditions for the big bang and eventually life to exist, if those conditions didn't exist in the first place, we wouldn't be here to discuss them so the whole argument is irrelevent.

One person angry at
One beleives
One does not beleive

The only thing that surprises me, is that this generates less heat than someone saying anything less than laudatory about someone's poetry.

There is your god, your own self-centered poet's assholes, it is too bad some of you aren't dexterous to bow down and worship it.

For the sake of world peace, I humbly offer mine.

he bought me a drink at Slim's last night...at least, he said he was god.

he looked a lot like George Burns, except he was still alive.

he had a Cubs hat on, so I'm skeptical.

Hope springs eternal... isn't that kind of like some religion? I believe that Cubs fans are some sort of divine religious order... forever bowing down to something illusory... If they weren't, they must surely hate them for dragging the devout through the valley of Wrigley every summer.... And to think, they do it with a perpetual smile!

I am not asking you to become religious, because I am no longer religious, have not even been to a church service since 1997. But, I still believe that I came from a "supreme intelligence." It always tickles me that the ones who do not believe in God, think that the responsibility of proof is not on their shoulders as well. I say that he does exist, so "prove" that he doesn't. I don't know if you knew it or not, but there are a large number of "reputable scientists" who not only believe in, but can prove that there is a God. They don't believe in God depite of their science, but because of their science.

The proof that there is a "supreme intelligence, a God," lies in the fact that "everything reproduces after its own kind," (no cats being given birth by dogs), and the fact that "Life produces life." You are here because of your parents, and their parents, and their parents. Now, push that back all the way to the first parents, and the question must be raised, "Okay, where did the first parents come from, since everything reproduces "after its own kind," and since life can only come from another life like its own?" The only logical answer is as follows.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:
and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over
the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth,
and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So
God created man in his own image, in the image of God created
he him; male and female created he them. (Genesis 1:26, 17, KJV)

If you do not accept this, then there is nothing I can do to help your belief. But, just because you still don't accept that there is a God does not mean that there is not one. I have already proven the case for a God, it's up to you to accept it. If you do not accept it, then that is your choice! We are the result of a "Supreme Intelligence" who had a plan layed out before time began, "not" the result of a giant firecracker, then being brought forth from some "primordial soup," by some pure chance and luck of nature. All this complexity in our infinite universe brought here "by pure, astronomical chance?" I should think not!

It's a personal thing isn't it? She proved it to herself. :)

I'm still waiting for god to send my nutty buddy, myself (although it's getting a little too cold up here for ice cream).

I think your zealotry would work better in poems than prose. And I mean that as a compliment. Zealotry is just another word for passion.

hi ange. :rose:

yes, it is personal...but the inference was not one of self-proof, just proof...

a pretty big claim, no? especially based on the data provided above. :)

my buddy the Cubs fan says...nutty buddy? ... no problem.

Well, you lean towards the guy in the Cubs hat then, and you will continue to be living with a sense of "false hope," just like the "Cubs." lol

Hi you. :rose:

Yeah a big claim, but I never take anyone's claim as more than their opinion--which I may agree with or not.

And are you sure you don't mean White Sox fan? It's a chocolate Nutty Buddy, btw.

I'm wearing my Red Sox visor in defiance and solidarity today. :D

Thanks, Twelveoone, appreciate the fact that someone thinks the media is scum. Now, I am sure that there are good people in the media trying to change things, but those poor folk are stuck away doing crappy jobs, working on crappy reports and stories which will not have a bit of impact on our society. The bleeding heart liberals in the media want to keep the people who care mouths shut, so they can go on with their lies and "cover-ups" in order to make a name for themselves, and of course to line their wallets and purses with "Ben Franklins."
