The only experience I have was with a pump, when the pump was removed the silicone ring would stay on.

Not sure about that jock specifically, but I found this one on Amazon and it works well (you can replace the cheap rubber rings and use your own, the strap for the rings is not sewn but Velcro):

I sanded the edges and went for a test drive. 1" long is a bit uncomfortable and it actually "shortens" the effective shaft length. 3/4 was better and 5/8 was better than that.

1st Simon thank you for creating such an educational thread. Yes I read all 37 current pages. Checked out a few of the sites spoken of and visited my local toy shop. Not sure I'm ready to leap straight to metal and bought a 2" rubber material, not very stretchy, ring. As a 1st time attempt, it was a challenge getting everything situated. So here's my concern, my scrotum doesn't hang far and while flaccid and seated for anything more than 30 min one testicle would slip back through. Everything stayed in place while standing or walking around, and aroused I could feel the binding effect. I'm not sure whether to chalk it up as a too large ring or scrotum issue. This also gives me hesitation for metal rings and whether it would ever be comfortable with the larger width of material. Any suggestions from this group appreciated.

So after using/wearing the rubber 2in ring, I made the leap and bought a metal 1.75 ring at the local toy shop. Was a bit nervous getting it on the first time. It fits and appears to do a better job for enhancing size/girth of my erection, and nothing causing alarm with climax. It does pinch at times during extended wear. My experience based on a dozen or so rings from various sources, worn off and on for the last year -
1. For me, comfort is driven mostly by the profile of the ring edge. A small amount of coconut oil also helps.
2. For day-long wear, I do better with a smaller diameter ring than I'd feel comfortable wearing through an orgasm. Too large of a diameter and one or both balls will likely pull through.
3. Ring weight is mostly driven by the material, then by the width and thickness of the ring. Many report liking the feel of a heavy steel ring, but my scrotum just won't keep mine in place.
FWIW, my go-to ring for all-day wear is the aluminum, anodized donut style from Ballistic Metal. The 1-3/4 inch one I have weighs 2.2 oz.
