Has anyone else heard of this new kind of bloodplay?

giving blood with an audience of two young children is an amusing experience i hope to repeat soon.
"eeeeeeeeeeeewww" i actualy kinda enjoy it
xx

I really wanted to give blood, but because my bf has had sex with another guy (though unwillingly), they won't let me give blood. Nevermind that he was tested and is completely clean.

Yes, because I've slept with someone who's slept with someone [etc], I can't give blood. What about women who have had anal sex? They are just as likely to get infections, and that's not on the questionaire.

Simple solution to the homophobic/xenophobic policies:

test the blood well enough to screen out unhealthy blood.

Hmmm..what about all the people who don't know who their partners have slept with? I think it's a bit of a homophob thing, myself  Just because a man is gay or bi doesn't make him any more likely to transmit a blood born disease than a straight man - at least not now adays...

Isn't that why they test the blood before it goes to those who need it?!

A little late in the day, but 'tis always better to give than receive.

Have a heart and give.

I am president of a community service/civic club in my community. One of our biggest events are the blood drives we sponser. Being a former nurse too, I can't impress enough what a gift it is to donate.

If you can, when you can, you should do so.

Rose:heart:

ADR I have a question. I stopped donating blood because the nurses could never get to my veins. I was once pricked about a dozen times (six times each are) before they found a good vein. After that I said no more!!

Even when I go for blood tests my vein collapses before they get enough.

So what can I do. I would love to give blood but being poked a dozen times is not my idea of fun filled afternoon.

thanks

Do you have rollers or just ones that collapse?

The places i'm thinking of for emergency blood stoppage wouldn't necessarily be from places the Red Cross would draw ... i'm thinking limb pressure points. Might get Desdemona in here, or maybe Anelize if she's lurking to help as well.

Mine collapse before they can get what they need... :(
Backs of the knees, inner thigh (maybe), back of hand (common, but painful as hell and liable to collapse if you already have a problem), or anywhere else the skin is thin. i'm trying to think of body areas with major circulatory system close to the surface that won't make the Red Cross phlebotomist faint dead away from embarrassment.

A friend of mine has veins that collapse really badly too...I'll ask her if she's donated and see if there's any trick she knows. I have yet to donate blood. When my highschool ran drives I was too young (I graduated at 17) And it was on my list of things to do after I turned 18...but I got tatooed and pierced first. Then I got pregnant (still am)...The first thing I want to do after the baby is born is to give blood...I hope they don't have strict limitations on lactating women!

Ebonyfire, I don’t know how kind hearted I really am. I enjoy helping others but as friends go, I suck big time.

Rubyfruit, I live to serve and I serve to live.

Marquis, I like the Red Cross but I think some of their rules are arbitrary. If you’re a man and have slept with another man, you can’t give blood, period. That’s just insulting. In addition, I seriously don’t understand why someone who lived in England for three months when they were eight can’t give blood as a twenty one year old. I understand that some groups are at a higher risk than others but turning away a potential donor simply because they might have a disease is foolish. Most people who give blood are willing to do so on a regular basis, turning away one person could be turning away a hundred pints of blood.

ShyGuy, Yeah, that’s always unfortunate. At our college, we have quite a few students turned down because just were pierced. Again, they test the blood anyway so I don’t know why they have these regulations. Is someone who had a piercing two months ago really that more likely to be infected than someone who had unprotected sex two days ago?

Debbiexxx, heya sweets. :)

Yes, Blue, I’m crazy, but I’m relatively harmless and that’s all that matter. Thank you for donating! :)
hehehe, my mother is a labrotory technician I hear about this all the time, let me explain:

If someone has been infected with AIDS then there is window where someone's blood may still contain enough of the virus to infect someone but not enough to be detected in the tests, typically this period is three or four months. Also keep in mind that if they make a mistake, then someone gets a fatal disease, they are very careful about preventing that, and unless there's a MAJOR blood shortage, they'd rather avoid taking blood from sources even a little questionable.

I had the most amazing experience.
Yesterday, I met this very attractive woman. To make a short story short, I ended up strapped down in this huge chair while she stuck a needle in my arm and removed about a pint of blood.

It lasted for 30 minutes, hurt like hell, and was completely free!

I give blood as often as they'll allow here (I think it's every 56 days) and if it hurt like Hell, they did something wrong. I've donated several times and the worst I've experienced is a bit of discomfort. At any rate, keep up the charitable work.

I can't go out and give blood again until March because I spent time in Peru last year and since the whole country is at risk for Malaria, I have to wait a year + before I can give blood again.

I'd love to, but, ack, I'll cut the crap. I'd hate to, last time I had blood tests I stood up after them and then fell over, now, call me a sissy, but, never again!

Perfectly happy to donate my organs tho, need to get one of them doner cards, so if you see me dead some place, feel free to take!

Stuponfucious... surely you'd know for sure whether you have CJD? You know, because you'd either be dying, or not...
