Hello From My Englishness

I went to the Corinthia in London last year. It was pricey and tbh I thought it was silly money but in the end it really was good value. Everything was tiny tiny, savouries and cakes but as soon as your plates were empty they were back with more selections and topping up the champers. I think we ate solid for 2+ hours and the flavours were just WOW!! Never thought a sarnie could taste sooooooooo good :)

I'd definitely go again, it was in the end, worth every penny and stunningly beautiful inside.

I was going to take the OH to Cake and Bubbles in London earlier in the year, but you know covid....

Today, I will mostly be eating....cup cakes!

Thank you, I'll take your macaroons, I love anything meringuey :)

I thought it was time for a change, Klimts' Golden Tears :)

I hope you are well up there in Bonny Scotland x

It is not too bad at all so far, my next part of the annual leave is starting and I am not due back until the 21st of the month. the 21st, what am I going to do with myself..

I don't mind an afternoon tea, but why are the sarnies always so small, more of a savoury then a sweet guy.

Are the sarnies normally small enough that I could eat them all in one go? If so that is not a good sign.

That sounds fantastic. Sometimes you need to spoil yourself after all and that sounds like a good day out.

I so wish that picture could be described as actual size.

Funny aside, my work very generously paid for a bottle of champers as we have our virtual AGM today and they wanted everyone to have a drink. However I do not drink really so I have a reputedly posh bottle of fizz sitting here for no good reason. Anyone for some free booze??

Sorry but I’ll give those a miss. I’ve never been able to eat, or even have in my mouth, any dried fruit used in cooking, or prunes or dates. Just the feel of them is enough to make me be sick. I don’t remember a time when this didn’t happen.

I'm okay with those but citrus peel is my pet hate. I mean, seriously .... ? Marmalade with chunks, hot cross buns, fruity Xmas cake and Xmas puddings, all ruined the second I bite peel :(

I used to be like that...then I grew to like mixed peel...not sure how that happened!

Don't like it in marmalade though - I'm with you there

I used to get home made thick cut whiskey flavoured marmalade From a local lady, but she stopped making it a year or so ago. Just loved it.

I don't mind peel in fruit cakes etc. my marmalade has to be smooth.

We can handle a war :) I'm a Marmite fan, love it and drinking it too, yum!

More of a bovril ran for drinking, takes me back to being a youngster at the football, mug of 'beef tea' on a wet, cold Saturday afternoon on the terrace.

I prefer my marmalade to look and taste like Nutella :D

Mmmmmm Nutella. The decadence I enjoy but rarely at a price I like. But I do love it.

Nope sorry Cherry, that stuff is horrible. Marmite on the other hand :D (and I'm fully aware this might start a war)

Scandalously I have never ever had marmite. for some reason I think it just looks a bit too gritty but I could be completely wrong.

Aaaannnndddd I have never ever had Bovril either. Maybe I am very bad at being British..

Love it.
Always have.
Good to see you. :rose:

Love the new AV.

I have to admit that I have been a bit turned off to Nutella once I found out it was mostly sugar and palm oil. Allia was the one who told me about it. I know she likes the Gü brand, which you guys have in the UK, but is not here yet. I have tried Justin's Chocolate Hazelnut & Almond Butter. It's good, but doesn't have the same sweetness.

I tried marmalade once, not a fan of the peel either.

Never had either of these, but had never even heard of bovril before being on an earlier iteration of this thread. I'm even worse at being British than you, NRP. ;)

I've only used Nutella as a bait to get the rats in the rat trap.

Thank you, another bit of Klimt sparkle :)

Chocolate nut butter does sound rather delicious, I'll have to hunt that out after I finish the bucket of Nutella from Costco, I'm sure it will last until 2022 :)

I have a jar of nutella that's been in the fridge for 18 months.
