We've been over much of this ground before, Elfin. The "I haven't been bothered to read your story but it's a load of crap" charge is patently, blatently, maliciously false. I have never called any poster's story indexed here "crap" (you seem to have me mixed up with Jenny on this). What I have done has been uniformly in support of the one asking for help. I have rarely posted at all except to point out an aspect of advice being given that I suggest leads the requester in the wrong direction--so I have uniformly been in support of the writing development of the one asking for help. That this means I'm saying I think the advice being given on that point was bum advice--and that you, Jenny, and MJL2010 are often the ones this redounds on says more than anything else why you are saying what you are here--and Jenny and MJL's posts as well.

All of my posts can be read on my profile. Anyone who wants to check can see if your charge is true.

The mysogynist charge also is just a convenient slam to use when substance isn't available. I haven't used gender-bashing here even to the level of you calling me a mysogynist. The record's clear for anyone who wants to read it. Yes, I've often said "I haven't read your story" (which is the proper and fair thing to do when I'm only going to address one element of the work--and it's almost always the reviewer's comments I'm addressing, not the writer's work). However, you conveniently leave out the "but" clause--which is uniformily--but I think you are being given bum advice on this and that point the poster above has commented on, and I suggest either that what you've done is better than what they suggest or that you check this out further yourself. All of this focused on the advice (on a particular point) being worse--or not any better--than what the writer was doing.

I also consistently have supported the techniques and approaches writers have taken in stories posted here for feedback as being legimate when those advising them have tried to tell them that more limited approaches either are "the" way to do it or "sell" the best on Lit. Again anyone interested in this point only needs to review my posts on my profile.

Repeating, it's always been the bum advice I'm addressing--in support of the writer being careful about taking what I think is bum advice without checking the point out further. And your problem here is that you often are the source of what I think is bum advice. You don't give a flying fuck for the writer whose work you've reviewed. You're trying to cover your own ass.

The song title bit, by the way, was that song titles are in quotes, not italics, as Jenny was counseling (Chicago Manual of Style 8.202: "Titles of songs are set in roman and enclosed in quotation marks, capitalized in the same way as poems." And not just Chicago Manual of Style--any other fiction style authority as well) And I wasn't introducing a nitpicky point--it was Jenny who brought the point up, saying the author had done it incorrectly, when it was her "fix" that was incorrect. What you went on to do was to misconstrue New Times Roman font with roman (versus italic, bold) typeface.

All of which points nicely to the issue that you and Jenny probably know less about writing than most of the folks requesting writing feedback on this forum. And also explains why you are so rabid about me pointing that out on occasion here.

Your last paragraph is hilarious and I hope that "Mom" Elfin is taking note of who around here is into gender bashing (but am not counting on it, of course, because it's "inconvenient" for what Elfin wants to believe). He had an ax to grind the day he showed up and he's still at it. His goal is to break up the AH or bring it down to the level of the GB. It has been his objective since day one.

Well, duh. It doesn't take a genius. I've directly said at least twice that I indeed have an agenda to point to and balance out gangbang attacks and nastiness by the tight inner group here on other posters, especially new ones--and to give counter advice on writing/publishing to those I think are getting bum advice--usually by those who have no notion what they're talking about. Just giving options; the poster being advised then can do what (s)he likes. Just pointing that there are several here pretending to have expertise they don't demonstrate and are being nasty and superior in giving that advice.

So, that's no secret. And on threads like this, I just let the gangbangers demonstrate their nastiness and vitrol. I presume that will let others see where the landmines are and give them a clue of how certain folks and groups of folks here spin their "magic."

And this thread will be bumped up from time to time with a suggestion that those asking for feedback and help review the postings of the nice and informed people they'll be dealing with here.

I haven't created any of this. It's right here. Everyone here--including me--is responsible for his/her own postings.

What has been said about the time from submission to post is more or less correct. The time will be a bit longer anytime there is a contest going on.

However, what has not been mentioned is the fact that you have asked THE QUESION. That changes everything. It is a well-known tradition on Lit that THE QUESION envokes a special routine to have your story posted with additional requirements.

These are:

1. A copy of a photo ID and three noterized letters from people who know you well, stating that you did, in fact, write the story without help from anyone.

2. Copies of you last five years Federal Income Taxes.

3. A written statement detailing all your children, husband, ex-husbands, brothers, sisters, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. This statement must contain their ages, relationship, addresses, home and cell phone numbers, as well as their email addresses. This statement should be addressed to the Post Question Review Committee for their perusual and investigation.

4. A check (also known as The Bribe ) in the amount of $100.00 made to the order of Jenny Jackson who will act as go-between for you to get your story posted as quickly as possible.

5. Your story will be placed in the Special Review section where it will be read, reviewed, commented and finally posted.

With any luck, you can expect to see your story in print sometime in early 2012.
