Holiday Traditions

Yes, Crepe Suzettes certainly pair well with no dieting :)

This weekend sees Mother's Day upon us. Here in the US we typically make mom breakfast in bed if the family is still in its nuclear stage. Or we might just send her a card if not. Taking her out to eat is always popular, as are flowers. A phone call is probably in order for those who are separated.

For those without moms the day can be difficult, or spent doing things in memory of her. Or putting energy into whatever she might inspire in us.

For moms without kids, there is honorary status for those like me, mom to my kitties. Couples without kids may or may not celebrate mothers day and fathers day, it varies by relationship.

How do you celebrate it?
For those who live in another country, when is it / do you have one?

Mothering Sunday, ( debates RAGE in some other English speaking places about the Americanism of it being called Mother's Day) is the fourth Sunday of Lent in some places.

Are your traditions different than any I have mentioned?
Any traditional foods associated with it?

I forgot to say that one of my friends is an emergency medical technician. He says that on the... errrr... shadier sides of town they get record #s of calls on Mother's Day - siblings fighting over which one of them Mom loves most!!

On the other side of town, it's the lawyers that get the calls. It's time to re-write the will again, Chauncey. Junior's tactless wife brought that god-awful tuna-eggplant-kale surprise casserole again. And she wore white shoes. The horror!

:D

In other families its Russian roulette for who had to spend the day at the family home. Winner loses.

I wish it weren't so, though I'm sure it is a grim holiday for some... :rose:

The 6th is beverage day!
Don't forget to appreciate and enjoy the beverage of your choice, and relax :)

It can't possibly be too early to start talking about Fathers Day. For all who need (or want) to know: I DO NOT WEAR TIES. That is all.

What about bow ties? :p

No. And before you bring it up, no string ties, either. :p

Or a propeller beanie?

True story: a few weeks ago, my sense of decency and fair play was insulted by a large man wearing a propeller beanie. I packed away my collection and will never wear one again.

I'm sure he has several already.

Alas, they will be in storage and, much like certain Presidential papers, are not to be unsealed until 100 years after I shuffle off this mortal coil.
