What she said.

I have several lounge threads that I don't keep up with all the time. And you can always bring a lounge back. If you want to be a thread owner that reads all the posts and you have the time and energy, then by all means, do so.

But most of the time, you can casually check in and out, and generally keep an eye on things without much of a time crunch. Plus, some of those posts are genuinely awesome, and you want to read them, cause the people in the lounge are awesome.

I used to read all the stuff between Nina and Jokas Wild, because they bounce off each other in awesomely hilarious ways. I'll read what my Angel writes cause I love her charm and drunkenness.

Using your lounge time to sharpen your tools in your SRP writing is a great way to look at it.

Interesting, noted. Will keep that in mind for future reference. Thanks for taking the time to explain :)

For instance, Brit's cottage, it's a closed thread. If she was in the middle of posting a scene there with someone, you may not want to interrupt, depending on where she is in the action. I've left a quick note and flowers for her, just before she's been in scene with someone. It's a nice thing to do. Yeishia, has in the past left flowers and notes in all the closed threads for holidays. Think of the closed threads... as people's homes. Unless you knew them really well, you wouldn't pop in unannounced.

Am I being clear?

Crystal and yes, it's a nice thing to do. A very nice thing to do. ;)

I may well be repeating what the wonderful Aus has stated but...

shrugs

So Se7en, people's personal threads (not just their idea dumps, although I have a post or two dedicated to those in my cottage) are an extension of their Lit persona where they can have some one on one time with people as and when they call by. My cottage is my own little corner of Lit where I can ramble and talk to myself and then entertain visitors. Visitors usually stop by when time does not allow us to have an SRP thread of our own and we want to play out a particular scene or when things that start in a more public thread are moved there to prevent stalling someone else's thread ;)

The more public lounge threads, like the Pearl or the Outlook, are places you can drop by and see who else joins you/is already there :D

Note: I am extremely tired and may well be rambling

Listens and takes mental notes

Thanks witch, will keep that in mind if/when I raid some of the lounge threads or make my own :)

I, for one, don't really mind the one-offs. Those lounges you mentioned are still in use and if I recall correctly, Aus, you made The Outlook specifically for newbies and vets to mingle.

To be honest, I first assumed that this Lounge forum was meant to be the SRP's version of The Playground.

I don't mind the one off's as long as there are other things to do. I did make the Outlook for both newbies and vets, and I'm looking for it right now in my subscribed threads.

Starts liberally using delete on my wayward threads

Also.. hey fr33k!

Agree with a lot already said. As I am only a few months old here, I do gotta say that there is an intimidation factor. But once you starting posting on a few threads, and get some warm replies, it all starts to get comfy around here.

I also gave seen some great ideas and really enjoy the company around here. A lot of different toes. A too smiling.. clown. A creeping psycho. An alpha she wolf. An elf and a halfling. The michael to my Sam. A respectful almost wise man. And so.. so many more, it would take forever to type it out on my phone.

I look forward to getting to know some of the others around here better. And meet new folks. Seven and aggie I think are fine examples of people that stepped up recently and have been pretty well received . And then there are those returning.

Fun fun all the way around.

Hello Aus. *smirks and ponders if she's deleting their long-slumbering thread*

I guess that I really didn't understand the various threads either, and now I feel like the whole crazy system makes a little more sense. I did start my own thread once, but ultimately I didn't feel like I had much control over it. Perhaps I have too weak a personality to make it what I wish. *shrugs*

Each person's lounge thread that I've lurked through has felt so personal, with established people, that I didn't feel comfortable approaching the owner, or the friends. The smaller thread, the "one off" threads were a much better way for me to get to know people.

It doesn't help that I haven't been around much lately and things do seem to change from time to time.

Wow, this came out more complain-y that I meant it to be. Boo. Everyone is so wonderful here!

*cries and flies away*

I'm glad it makes sense! And you're always welcome in The Outlook Sasha! You don't have to fly away darling. I don't bite... most of the time!
smiles

You'll get nothing old man! Nothing until you post back! Also you owe us an OOC! Chop chop!

Old man? Listen here, little girl...

I will work on the OOC after I get to the bank. No monies will make for a very... interesting weekend.

I prefer the status quo...we have a stickyed welcome wagon and a mixture of lounge and one liners, it seems to work. *shrugs*

The lounge seems to evolve to suit its current inhabitants which is how it should be I guess. Each to their own, plenty of room for all to cultivate what suits their individual tastes.

These days I use our lounge when my muse falters in my stories proper which is way more than I would like unfortunately. The one liners often provide a much needed diversion. I refer to the ones I make as my fluff threads.

As the above writer pointed just pointed out I used to run around trying to bring love and cheer to all, even leaving small offerings in threads which had gathered dust just in case their owners came back.

Ausus_girl 13 is correct I inadvertently broke the cardinal rule... I left such items in closed threads which is a serious no no.

I was told by one lady in no uncertain terms not to….* blushes * I remember the exact date 16-03-2010.

Since then if I have the urge I leave such items on the doorstep and do not enter the actual tread.

Lesson well learned :rose:

P.S. Can one delete whole threads...how please?

Yeishia, I was just pointing it out, not condemning you. Just so you know. I thought it was cute, and very you.

As for your PS... I have no clue, I think that has to be decided by the Mods.

Speaking as a newcomer, I know I've shied away from posting on people's lounge threads. Even if the thread is open, I don't know anyone and feel like a lurker. It's strange, because I've not had the same problem posting on the BDSM forums but then, people there don't claim ownership of any of the threads.

Reading this thread, I have more of an idea now of what people are seeking when they make their own thread. I made mine mainly as an ideas dump but if anyone wants to socialise there they're very welcome.

Also, the China Pearl Inn thread just really intimidated me, because it's been there so long and everyone there knows each other. I know I'd be welcomed there but that still doesn't give me the confidence to just waltz in. I'm also new to roleplaying as myself in the way Ausus_girl13 demonstrated. So that's something else I'd be trying on for size, even without the scary prospect of talking to strangers on the net! Also, I don't get a lot of the references here that are foreign; American or whatever. So I'm not always 100% sure I understand the banter correctly.

Thoughts on this:
1. CT, I do, in fact, change quite often. I just don't do it on command.
2. I highly approve of changes here.
3. The problem: I watched this place change closely, with a keen eye, as it switched from Lansdown Street (for you Boston people...for everyone else:a strip of clubs and scenes) to The Playground writ small.
It seemed to me that the problem was too many hangout threads. When there were just a few, you'd get a group in each one, maybe hopping from thread to thread.
But, over time, everyone opened up their own, and you'd end up with 2 or 3 people in each, which really isn't the same thing.
You see trendy areas in the real world die out like that all the time. Too many places, too little gathering.
Solution? I do not know.
But I think its worth noting.

THAT SAID...
This should be a place about writing and story and language and character and things that go Chesschessawayn in the night as a stickysweet dripping call to playtime.

I know it's intimidating, but poke your head in to the Pearl and say hello. You will quickly catch onto the lingo. Also the Outlook is a great option as a place to start.

Let me know if I can be of any help!

Clears throat-

Fuck yall talk alot.

Ok.. new shit.. we need a list for the newbies...

Old threads and new.. that are OPEN LOUNGES

Forinsance.. I have my Nook, my home, its busy right now (inorder to post i have to reread where we are and fuck, i cant type) so mid scene i appreciate no one posting.. but its not technicaly closed. Just as Ausus put, its my home.

Now.. the open thread I did create because I fucking missed the lounges and everyone had wierd rules about whom could post what content in which lounge. So I said fuckit. There are no rules in that lounge. I dont care if you pop in and chat in character or not, dont care if your fucking the staff from the chandeleer or sipping a drink and making smores. Its open and hotness.. everywhere.

So.. anyway. Listing the louges that nebies can enter.. yes yes.

(a great big fuck you to my spellchecker, I know everyother word is red, fuck you)

um.. anyway.. -nibbles cookies-

Add Hell to whatever list ya'll decide to make for newbs. with a side not that there is no such thing as interupting a scene in there. Anyone can post any time... just if smexyness is happeing you might get ignored for a lil while, or tossed on the pile of squirming literary body parts

-pokes brain with a stick-

I think i might have made sense... fuckit.. i just need to go do more moaning and more math.. peace

Nah, but you never do. Yer like the crazy aunt, we just smile and nod alot

steals cookie

(btw, I am totally happy to edit the 'welcome' thread once we decide on content)

oh.. to pipe in on the thing Vail said that i didnt read before blabbering away.

yea.. threads get to clicky. 2 or 3 in each.. fuck all that. Ilike tossing oil on water and lighting the mother fucker on fire.. so.. yes.. lets funnel ppl down. there are 4 lounges i know that are active currently.

Hell
The China Pearl
The outlook
and Lily's

i think those four pretty much feed the tastes of the majority.

theres one more. some hot tub on a roof... I havnt been there but it seems to be revivign too.

When it was all happening, I don't think it was 'clicky' so much as it was "They opened a club, I wanna open a club! It'll be cool!" (I don't mean that anywhere near as obnoxiously as it sounds). Sooner or later, you have 15 clubs and nothing going on.
