I think I'm finally getting a waft of what Vail and others are trying to say. The one off threads have become more of a gathering and discussion place than the gathering and discussion hang out type threads. Is this the gist?

If so, I agree that it's how it seems to have evolved. And it would be better to have some other threads for that. A general discussion kind of place where you can talk about anything, in character or out, can flirt with people, or just joke back and forth about cookies, and not have to worry that you're hijacking the intended purpose of the thread, is that what we're discussing?

Also, for the FAQ post, I think it might be good to start with a general explanation of the different types of threads: Home threads, Idea dumps, One off threads, Etc. Then followed by a typical 'courteous practices' list that tell people how to approach closed threads, open threads, home threads, etc. What some of you have posted here already was a very good way to put it, so not much more needs to be added, just post the same kind of info in the sticky thread.

After the basics are covered, then the owners of their individual threads can give a synopsis and any special things they want people to know.

The threads have become more peoples' thought spots and random questions that encourage conversation (like this one) IMHO. Yes, there's the usual staple threads that seem to have been here forever and a day (Reminding me on my own's age.... Which I should note was actually made I response to Kuu's Hard Rock all those years ago). These seem to be the spots people trickle in hopes of finding writing parters or simply passing time.

Funny thing is the "reps" these places gain. I honestly have never ventured into other hangouts than my own (aside from Vails) because I felt I wasn't fitting of the expectations on what happened there. There are "club zones" that are open to free play, sexual innuendo, and the like.
After Hours, strangely, has its unspoken rule I never realized happened. Theres no sex in AH. The Stockroom, The Office, yes... But those are private offshoot threads. I suppose AH is the Nerd Thread where we're too busy ranting over continuities in films or cartoons to consider sex?

Does it speak ill of me to say that I have never really noticed the flow of the lounge? I mean really? I choose my chat partners with care, I choose my play partners with even more care...and I mostly stay to myself to avoid LIT drama.

So, even though I have noticed that there seems to be a bunch of one off threads, I just never sat down and thought about whether or not this was a good thing. After all, those that I choose to spend my on line time with know where to find me...

and I know where to find them.

Most of the people that post here/write here/hang out here, in the Lounge? They don't ping my radar, anyway. They are kind of like movable robots, something to read, look at, when I get down...or if the words I need won't come.

For the most part this is fairy tale land and I am a passer through. *shrugs*
The longer I am here, the less time I spend in the Lounge portion of SRP anyway.

I prefer my Cavern in the actual SRP area. I prefer my stories. I prefer the few people I consider to be real.
