When it was all happening, I don't think it was 'clicky' so much as it was "They opened a club, I wanna open a club! It'll be cool!" (I don't mean that anywhere near as obnoxiously as it sounds). Sooner or later, you have 15 clubs and nothing going on.
HAhahaha.. you sounded all kinds-a snotttyyyyyyyyyy

um... yea-nods- snotty. its a word!!!
Poooooooor Ninaling...there will always be the stealing of cookies.

oh.. bite my cookie!

But don't they already have that in the real world?! :D

How do I want the lounge? I can't say really. I'm new. But, all in all, I think it's OK the way it is so far. Although I am having a hard time keeping up with each convo in each thread (just to make sure I respond to anything should my name come up)
Does that make sense?

it does
It gets markedly easier when there's only a few places where people hang out, and the one-liner threads are really one-liners

Okay, I'm going to lay this out there, and say what I mean. Sorry in advance to any who will be offended, but this is how it was made clear, so I respected it.

The China Pearl is a very genre and time specific setting, according to it's owner's wishes. It was made clear that on the China Coast circa 1930s or whenever, there are no elves, angels, demons, shape shifters, etc. welcome to play in character. This was stated by the owner, who set up the thread as their domain, so I respected that and have stayed away since that was clarified.

Several of us who used to hang out at the Pearl then made our own places. When I became a free agent again, I made two threads of my own. The Little Shack Out Back is an irreverent stop in and shoot the breeze kind of place that is meant to be for out of character chatting and joking around, posting pictures, cartoons, whatever. Where Elvish Blood Sings is more of a story/home thread that is for in character play. Everyone is welcome to visit me in either of those threads at anytime I'm online. Those are my places, and I don't have a genre specific preference.

I look at Lit as a magical time suspended place where all these locals exist in a sort of neighborhood. Walk through the forest and you find Britwitch's Cottage. Go a little deeper in the wilderness and you find Luna's Cabin. Go still deeper to the heart of the forest, where the enchantment is strongest and you find my little home in the Father Tree near the waterfall.

Travel from Cait's Mansion around the coast, a good jogging distance away, and you reach the Outlook. You could also visit Appollion's Temple of the Sun, or Fr33ks33k's interesting shop, or Plexi's pool palace, etc. Not all of these places have been there a long time, but like any neighborhood, new people move in, new establishments come, and sometimes go.

Several of my friends here have offered me 'rooms' or places within their homes: Cait's Mansion, Plexi's Pool Palace, Yeishia's Solloquium, etc. I visit these places sometimes, and stay in my own place sometimes. When I belonged to her, Mistress Pen had her Pocket Dimension and I had a welcome there. No longer. But there are other places for me.

My point is that there are plenty of lounge threads still around. As someone else said, it's not just a few older ones that have disappeared. And yes, sometimes there can be too many personalized ones, but who is to say which people can have some and which should stick to a few common ones? When it is made clear that certain character types are not welcome in a certain thread because they do not fit the owner's vision, then what are those people supposed to do?

I don't think anyone is saying anyone can or can't do something.
No one owns the lounge.
What we're talking about is that the place used to be very different, and some of the changes have not been exactly positive (imho).

Being semi new.... I have no clue where you can or can not be in regards to the lounges. I normally scan through a few of them and the go back to writing the SRPs.

There are a lot that feel too clicky and being new or a "no body" of sorts, It's intimidating. [shrugs] However, I also know that it can be that way from everyone knowing each other for a long period of time. I deal with that a lot on another forum.

Maybe a sticky with a generalization of each lounge and rules would be good. It would help the newbies be able to find a "home" of sorts.

Thats actually been brought up, and its a good idea.
The problem being that there are no real rules. Its not exactly a cohesive place at the moment.

Though I suppose what we could do is have each thread owner write a summary of their thread, any resrictions, etc, and we could build a FAQ that way...

You misunderstood me. I was talking specifically about one of the most popular lounge threads: The China Pearl, not the lounge itself. And yes, someone does own that thread. He made it quite clear what he wants people who post there to play, genre wise. He is one of, if not THE founder of that thread, and his wishes for how it was to be ought to be respected. Therefore, those of us who do not fit, and do not feel welcome there, simply went elsewhere, sometimes to our own threads.

Would you like to mention some of the changes that you think are not positive? It might be worthy to discuss them as long as we're thinking of ways to improve things.

I'm sorry, I thought you meant "Who are we to tell people to not form a thread" or something.
Yes, certainly, you make a thread, its yours.

If you go through this thread, you'll see the changes that have happened being discussed.

I did go through the thread, from beginning to end. Forgive me if I misunderstood, but I gathered that one of the topics of discussion was that the personal threads had proliferated to the point that people rarely gathered in just a select few old hangout places. Offered an explanation as to why some of those threads had been sparse with visitors in more recent months, and why several new 'home' threads were created.

I do like the idea of a FAQ thread offering a synopsis of each person's threads. Each thread owner could post their setting, rules, expectations or whatever there in a post about their threads. It would be like a one stop place to find out about all the threads, and then people could decide where they wanted to hang out or post, or play, or whatever.

well, one of the things thats been mentioned is that the lounge used to be a bunch of personal threads, regardless of whether or not that was a good thing, and now it is much more oriented to the "how do you feel" and "last thing you thought" stuff.
Or, as has been put, its a smaller version of The Playground.

The thing is Vail, like any other community, and we are a community, things shift with the times and people. The Lounge takes on the needs of the general populace at any given time. Everyone has an opinion on how something should be or how they remember it and would like to see it again because it was great times. That's all well and fine. Then I would suggest that people start utilizing the Lounge threads we do have, whichever ones appeal to the individual the most. Frequent them. If those threads are at the top of the Lounge threads constantly? People will pop in.

As for "cliques" (yes, people that's exactly how it's spelled) those are only seemingly formed within the Lounge because new people are just too damn nervous to poke their nose in. Intimidating for them, I'm sure. I remember. A small reality check is this, you are on the opposite side of your monitor. No one knows you. They'll know only what you want them to know or see. What's to be afraid of? Some advice I got way back when was that, to think of it like a RW public place. Friends are going to greet friends. Talk with them, interact with them. That's just the nature of the beast. Strangers come in, some will greet you, some will not. I've found that works and it doesn't. You want the Lounge threads to work? To be active again? Talk to everyone that steps in. Be friendly. Acknowledge everyone, a little or a lot.

ETA: It takes a lot of hard work to keep a thread active. People have to be willing to do it. You can't just pop in for a few weeks, be active and then just disappear. If it means that much to you? Work at keeping it active. Find the time to fit it in whenever you log into Lit.

Let Loungers get to know you and if you become discouraged because no one is paying attention to you? Then perhaps you need to take a look at yourself and wonder why you think you need the attention to begin with. Why are you here? To make new friends? Find someone to write with? To find a place to freely goof around or express yourself openly? We're good for all those things. But you can't swim if you don't jump into the water first.

If I am in agreement with anyone, it has to be Yeishia and Thyri.

There's a place for the one-liners, there's a place for Lounge threads, there's a place for everyone who comes to Lounge.

Sure. This thread was set up to discuss this, I happen to think it goes beyond "oh, back in the day it was so much better" kind of thing. But thats my opinion and people can agree with it or not. Its pointless to create this thread and then say criticism isn't welcome.

ok, the sticky is in place. If people have stuff they would like put into the first post, send it to me and I'll add it. I think it is worth putting as much as possible into the first post instead of just adding to the thread itself.

I want the Lounge to be what it is. A place to unwind, to bat around ideas, to chat with the few people I like.

*shrugs*

There aren't very many threads that I visit here because I choose not to. I spend the majority of my time in my Haven or at Lily's place. Why? Because those people that I like GO to those places, that's why.

The one offs? I pop in there when I am trying to get words to come out correctly or when i see a kitty or friend posting there.

Personally, I think it's a big to do over nothing. This place changes because of the people that come here. Does it resemble a mini PG? Yes. Do I give a fuck? Nope. It's more energy than I have to worry about a porn board's lay out.

damn.. I wanted to lick the sticky..

ok. slap hell on there... just not first in the list... I think that might scare newbs.

Hell is a... well, its Hell. A place where rules really dont apply. I talk to people, you could get ignored or devoured. come in character or not. I dont rightly care.

fuckit. i'm not in the mood to wrtie the description at the moment. but it needs to go on there.

Maybe I'll wait until you are less Ms. Cranky McCrankypants.

I'm missing a lot of the places that Aus mentioned. I miss the context and how one could go there and meet people, interact. That was my introduction to the lounge and I got so much out of it.

I didnt even write a story for months, but the small scenes in the lunge threads taught me about myself and helped me explore a burgeoning new world of words and intimacy.

I'm missing that now. One of the difficulties of there being so many lunge threads - aside from how thinly it tends to spread the writers- is that each and everyone has its denizens and so for every new thread, one is faced with establishing a whole new set of contacts and dynamics. Many of those I was beginning to feel comfortable in have gone and I've not found myself here often enough to take the time to re-establish in new places. Thats all on me, of course! What has been difficult is that when I -do- have time, I'll lurk around for open social places and I just don't see a lot of activity.

It feels like a momentum has been lost, and its not all just my personal momentum; I would like to see that happening again. It was so pivotal in my sense of belonging here and is IMO one of the lounge's strengths.

this is all easy for me.

i like the light pg aspect... i'm not wanting to play in the playground though. I want to chat and shoot the shit with co writers. not everyone else.

then there are the louge-ie threads. i like them. like to play in them. yup yup. so, i suuport the list of lounges for newbs. its been a thing round these parts that people dont know hwere they can go without accidentaly pissin some one off.

i dont think it neads lots of talk. .just

here is a need.

here is the solution

your good

i'm good

peace out.
