I woke up this morning to discover I had turned into an insect.

I once heard an argument that Heaven was a metaphor for ultimate control and Hell for ultimate freedom.

In Heaven, you are one with the will of God, and you live a life of pure holiness. In Hell, you are free to do whatever it is you please, but must deal with the ramifications of your choices.

We choose our destiny by that which we strive for on Earth.

By this analogy, I suppose Satan would be the most liberated being in existence.

It must be incredibly lonely to have that much freedom.

are you just trying to make yourself feel better about your eventual visit to hell?

Don't worry, I'll be there too. We can hang out. I challenge you to a game of hell-scrabble.

I had a dream once. A particular one that is; I found a hole in my closet, a sphere of black nothing that hadn't been there before, though I couldn't remember what had been there. Couldn't have been that important... I figured I'd tell someone about it later. I threw my coat on my desk chair and returned to something more pressing.

I returned to my room a short time later to find that the hole had grown. The room seemed empty and cold. Did I own a coat? Wasn't there a desk in here? Neither was present, nor could I remember ever having a desk or a coat.. and a moment later, I wasn't really sure if I'd ever owned a bed. That's when I started to really worry about this thing.

I tried to call someone... but the phone lines were dead, and a moment later; I wasn't really sure who I was calling. Gathering my brothers we left the house, noticing that there were a lot of little oddities... the neihbor's house already had a similar hole.. protruding from one side.. and didn't they have a dogrun? We got in the car, even though I couldn't remember whether I had a liscence, and drove away from there, wondering as we left whether there had been more houses on the block before.

The roads were empty. We turned on the radio and the emergency broadcast station was advising people to stay in their homes. We turned one corner and the road just ended where a bridge should have been, with a bulbous sphere of nothing floating in mid air about half way across the river, larger than any we'd seen so far. We turned around trying to find a different way across, though I don't remember where we thought we were going, we just had to get away... go somewhere else, somewhere this wasn't happening. We figured that if we could remember a place on a map, this must not be happening there.

We narrowly skirted one sphere that was right in the middle of an intersection, and couldn't understand why the car was so drafty... there were no doors.

Eventually we made our way to a marina and stole a boat, but as we sped away we spotted another orb on the horizon, nearly blotting out the sun.

In the last part of my dream I remember being unusually calm as I speculated with my brother about what could have caused this. He thought it was aliens... he would. It seemed to me that God had simply given up on beleiving in us.

....does this mean you'll be joining in on the hell-scrabble activities?

Hmm. If that were literally true rather than just a metaphor then all the people who want to control would wind up in hell and all the people who want to be controlled would wind up in heaven, thus making both places a living hell... at least for us kinkies. But then again, maybe that's what the angels and demons are for: surrogate doms and subs? But then if THAT is true, then Satan would be the ultimate subbie?

(You know, I really should follow the advice I once received from someone older and wiser and not go tripping into the realms of higher philosophy this way. I always seem to manage to put my foot into the first imponderable cowpie to cross my path. :/)

I've never heard any comment like that before, but rather a total opposite claim. Heaven to me was taught to be a realm of infinite pleasure, where you have control over you're own pleasure. Almost like submitting to your own urges and receiving gratification as you want it. Hell to me has been alluded to a torturous realm where all control is stripped away and pleasure (even pleasure from pain), simply does not exist.

Intriguing analogy on your part though. Was it hypothesied by a thelogian?

Sounds like Milton to me.

Yes, a Jesuit priest with a very humanist view on Christ and the biblical mysteries.

Incredible stuff.

From what I understand Hell is the loneliest place on earth. It's complete isolation from God and man. It is not one big party of sinners, it's utter torment. You think you're lonely now? That's nothing on hell.

The stuff in this tale reminds me of those balls of out-of-control Chaos in the Zelazny Amber books. Nobody could stop those things from expanding and eating reality. An "Oberon," oddly enough or maybe not, was one of the primary characters in those sf novels as well.

I was just about to post that.

Hell is like being locked in a dark, burning closet, alone, forever.

Some kids are into that. And how would you know what hell is like? *coughSatancough*

Ever see The Neverending Story?

That story just freaks me out. I mean, what if we're not really real? What if we're actually just characters in a book that someone is reading? What if that person gets tired of the book, and closes it? Do we die? Or do we just wait for someone else to read it. And what if some weirdo decides that our book shouldn't be, and burns it? What then? *shudders*

Yes, I'm weird. And no, you don't want to be in my brain. It's a dark, scary place.

What if we are? I hope I'm providing as entertaining of a story as my books give me. After all, even if they close the book and burn it...there's always more copies! Wow, what a thought, a hundred million copies of me in priint.... :D

Hell is described in the Bible as several things. A lake of fire. Home of Satan, but the one that is continually said, that is meant to be the worst, is utter and total separation from God.

People who aren't christians may not understand the implications of that... but I know, humans were meant to commune with God. Being isolated from him from eternity is panamount to the worst degree of torture.

That's why I pray, and hope everyday, that people who don't see, or have faith in, the truth the way that I do, will come to an understanding and begin their own communication with God.

Then I had probably better make sure I live this life to the fullest! Hmmm...Looks like I've got that covered!

This sounds like we're getting awfully close to a discussion of religion..I think we should avoid that.

Perhaps they are in full communion with God and understand perfectly well what separation from God would be like. They just happen not to agree with you on the channels of communication or the idea that God would make separate afterlives for people at all.

Netzach, I fear for your nocturnal sole.

Have you accepted Christ as your personal server?

Smart ass. :p

You won't think it's so funny when flame resistant worms are gnawing at your flesh in the eternal burning coffin of hell. Meanwhile your buddies to the right and left of you who are tithing like good Christians will be drinking Mai-Tai's in a tropical oasis, their children playing safely with venomous snakes and lions and shit.
