Interview with a Writer

It highlights the words she used to search for the thread. If you searched for the word 'pickles,' then every post you found would have 'pickles' highlighted like that.

To get things back on track, let's get another person up!

This time we've got our resident fr33k in the lukewarm seat...

What is your screenname?
Fr33ks33k

Why did you choose that?
I was a freshman in college, I couldn't use the "Cunning Linguist" moniker I used on Yahoo, so I decided that I was "seeking freaks", or rather, looking for perverted people to interact with. Mostly it was L337 Sp34k (yes, it was cool then) and juvenile tendencies.

Why did you choose the av and/or sig you're currently using?
Currently my AV is the Headless Horseman for Halloween. My sig is just a collection of favorite quotes/music lyrics and links to my personal stuff.

As specific or vague as you would like to be, what is your...

Location?

Ohio

Age?
26

Sex/Gender/Gender Identity?
Male

Race?
Mutt.*chuckle* I'm multiracial.

What is it that you enjoy about writing SRPs?
The fun of interacting with another person and the way that reading words on a screen can evoke arousal on such a grand scale.

What is it that you enjoy about writing in general?
Feeling the words, getting to know that something I wrote gave someone goosebumps, or made them ponder for even a second the subject I was writing about.

What inspiration do you use to write?
Random snippets plucked from my brain or picked from someone else's.

Do you write with something on (music, TV, etc), or silence?
I tend to do both, more often with TV as background noise than not.

Do you edit your posts?
Usually only if something is requested to be removed or refined or if I catch a typo.

If so, do you do so as you write, or after finishing?
I tend to write and edit as I go, but I don't always catch everything.

What character you've created is your favorite, and why?
My favorite character? I don't know that I have one, though I did enjoy Andrew Gilthand, the werewolf from my Fox and Hound story with Luna.

What character you've created is your least favorite, and why?
Hm...least favorite....Again, I don't know that I have just one. There was a character that I don't care for now that I created to write with Zydrate a while ago. That story went sour and so the character (which I couldn't recall the name of) was pretty well spoiled too.

What is your favorite thread you are or have been involved in?
Damn you and your making me choose favorites...I'll give top three. Fox and Hound with Luna, Into Fate's Hands with Cait, and On Tour with Velocity which was written with a bunch of wonderful talent. The thread kinda derailed but it as a wonderfully debauched view of the rockstar world.

What is your favorite thread you were not involved in?
Hmm...I have a bad tendency to lose track of threads I'm not involved in. I used to read just about anything written by fuckmeat back in the day though. She was spectacular, even though her kinks were way beyond what I thought I was into at the time.

Outside of Lit, what do you read?
Mostly Sci-fi and fantasy.

What is your favorite thing about the way you write?
I love when I find a flow and can just keep rambling, though sometimes I think it makes me seem long-winded and pointless.

If you could change one thing about the way you write, what would it be?
I don't know, honestly. I suppose it would be that I would write with pencil and paper rather than digitally.

And lastly, the Famous 10 Questions...

What is your favorite word?

Fuck.

What is your least favorite word?
Work.

What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
Detail, fire (physical fire as opposed to metaphorical, though that can as well), and violence. Those are answered in respective order, by the way.

What turns you off?
Horrendous spelling mistakes made consistently and continually. I'm sure there are other things, but they escape me at the moment.

What is your favorite curse word?
Either fuck or cunt.

What sound or noise do you love?
The sounds of a wet, messy, sloppy blowjob or sex; A low, needy moan; The sounds of a thunderstorm.

What sound or noise do you hate?
High-pitched screeching sounds of any kind.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Writer.

What profession would you not like to do?
Lawyer.

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
"Wait....YOU got in?"

I like mutts. Just sayin’.

Your success in evoking arousal is worthy of L337 status.

We share a fondness for FM’s threads. That was my answer to that question as well. ;)

Nothing that I’ve ever seen of your writing is long-winded or pointless. Quite the opposite really.

We also share the same favorite word. This doesn’t surprise me.

You should write professionally. I’d likely be your biggest fan. Your writing is one of the biggest reasons I keep coming here.

Not that I stalk you. Not really.

I do wish I would've been around when FM was. I feel like her and I would have got along quite well.

Heh. "Wherefore art thou fuckmeat" could totally be a story title.

*grins in Dee's direction and returns the high five*

Another great profile. I must say I really enjoy reading your one-shots on Brit's writing challenge thread. Maybe it's my predilection to not sitting down long enough to read whole threads....but I really do like your short pieces.

I'm amazed at how many people have mentioned FM - I thought I was the only one wallowing in missing her.

Oh - and now that I know Dee had done a profile, I will have to check here every day *sighs*

Awww, Fishy!

Can't believe I missed this. Must have gotten swallowed up in recent events.
But!

What is your favorite thing about the way you write?
I love when I find a flow and can just keep rambling, though sometimes I think it makes me seem long-winded and pointless.

I love the way you write. Gives hope for other rambly writers like myself.

What is your screenname? Britwitch

Why did you choose that? Well, nothing too cryptic, I thought it was a cool handle (that I’d had for a l-o-n-g time!) and pretty self-explanatory, I’m a British witch.

Why did you choose the av and/or sig you're currently using? At the moment? They have a Halloween theme and that’s one of my favourite holidays. They also have something of a pin up feel which is a look I adore!

As specific or vague as you would like to be, what is your...

Location? Northern Scandinavia

Age? 32

Sex/Gender/Gender Identity? Bi-sexual female

Race? White…but I hate how boring that sounds so, ethnically? I’m half British, half South African.

What is it that you enjoy about writing SRPs? I think it’s the collaboration that I particularly enjoy, seeing where someone else can take your idea or where you can take theirs. I think as writers, sharing a story (because I see my SRPs as stories whenever possible – sexy stories sometimes but not always) with another writer is a good experience to have now and then. I know it stops me from getting too ‘precious’ about my writing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t but I love the thrill I still get when I have a post from a co-writer and never knowing quite what I’m going to find. Some ideas don’t work though and then they become solo projects but I find RPs a good testing ground for new ideas and new styles.

What is it that you enjoy about writing in general? This is a difficult question because I can’t really remember a time when I didn’t write! I love telling a story and taking the reader on a journey they might never have otherwise taken. I’m not saying I’m writing literary classics but I enjoy writing and if people enjoy reading what comes from my efforts then I’m more than happy.

What inspiration do you use to write? All sorts – snippets of conversation, places, sounds, smells…and, yes, where SRPs are concerned the odd storyline has come out of a particularly sexy scenario or image.

Do you write with something on (music, TV, etc), or silence? I almost always have to have something in the background. Nine times out of ten it’s music. Instrumental/film scores are my usual writing music of choice. I think my background in drama and music means I tend to imagine things in a performance-like way, using the music to enhance the scene in my mind. I definitely find it helps convey the emotions of my characters.

Do you edit your posts? Yes. Always. I’m a rambly writer and for the good of those that might try to read what I post? I need to edit!

If so, do you do so as you write, or after finishing? A little of both. General spelling and word choice issues are corrected as I go but then larger ‘structural’ changes I tend to make afterwards. Sometimes saving passages for later posts if I think they’d be more appropriate at a different point in the story. But I sometimes edit even after I’ve posted – but that’s usually spelling things I didn’t pick up on prior to posting or ‘mistakes’/discrepancies between my posts and my partners’.

What character you've created is your favorite, and why? She was called Stéphanie Marchand and she was in a French revolution thread I wrote with Magbeam a l-o-n-g time ago, Madame Guillotine. She was a spy and a seductress and, as a result, all kinds of fun to write! Sadly the story we planned was never fully played out but it was awesome while it lasted. I think what I liked about her was that I was almost getting to play the villain for once. In my solo pieces/novels I always enjoy writing the wicked characters, they usually get the best lines after all, and so it was fun to play one in an RP setting.

What character you've created is your least favorite, and why? It would be a several way tie between some of my very first characters from my first threads where I was just desperate to write with anyone and had some pretty 2D ladies as a result.

What is your favorite thread you are or have been involved in? A tough one. There are many threads I’m proud of and have loved writing for a wide variety of reasons so after many years spent writing here it’s hard to single one out! I’ll go for my current favourite thread.
Right now, it’d have to be ‘The Right One’ with Scuttle Buttin’ and Miss_Vivi. The reasons why are many. The story came out of an image and the discussion that followed. It was brainstorming at its best where everything anyone said just pushed the idea forwards. It’s set in France and involves history, two of my favourite things. It’s a romance, of sorts, which I do love to write. It features characters and a storyline that I genuinely adore. That I’m writing with my two favourite writing partners is the icing on the cake really.

What is your favorite thread you were not involved in? Again this is really difficult, over the years I’ve followed lots of threads. When she was here, I followed a lot of Alana’s threads. She had a fantastic turn of phrase and always seemed to create female leads that were feminine and delicate without being overly fragile. I always envied that!

Outside of Lit, what do you read? These days reading time is something I rarely get but I love historical dramas/thrillers. There’s a series by C.J.Hansom that I love set around the time of Cromwell. Would definitely recommend it!

What is your favorite thing about the way you write? I like my character’s voices. I think my drama background, and that I’m naturally a ‘talker’, mean I find conversation really fun to write.

If you could change one thing about the way you write, what would it be? Probably, like most writers, the ability to write whenever I want and not be subject to the whims of my muse would be fantastic! But about my writing itself? It would probably be to be a little more complex. I often feel that while I do manage to work twists into my plots, I don’t feel they’re as deeply concealed as other writers can make them.

And lastly, the Famous 10 Questions...

What is your favorite word? I use ‘awesome’ far too much! But I know one of the words I’ve always loved is ‘faff’ because it sounds so perfectly like what it is.

What is your least favorite word? Probably ‘smirk’ because you see it used far too often by people who don’t actually know what it means!

What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? Time outdoors, in and with nature. And music. I’m a simple soul really.

What turns you off? Rudeness. That’s pretty much it. Manners cost nothing and while I have a lot of patience, if someone is needlessly rude and thoughtless, then my patience wears pretty thin pretty quickly. Actually, I suppose it would be that and crimes against written language. Incorrectly using words or heaping on the description in the hope it’ll make things better just hurts my brain. Typos happen but some people either just don’t look for them or actually believe things like ‘peeked my interest’ and ‘she shuttered with need’ are real and fine. Also, if you just read that and can’t see the problem? I don’t think I’d be a good writing partner for you!

What is your favorite curse word? Fuck. By far and away my favourite. I think part of it stems from growing up in a ‘cockney’ household where fuck was basically used as an adverb.

What sound or noise do you love? The ocean. Nothing more soothing. Plus to hear the ocean means being at the coast...and being at the coast means the beach...how can anyone not love that?!

What sound or noise do you hate? Anything along the lines of cracking knuckles. Those kinds of noises (teeth grinding, popping joints) just make me feel ill!

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Always wanted to be a professional performer – actress or singer. Nearly did it as my career but chose teaching...I'd be lying if I said I didn't wonder what might have been...

What profession would you not like to do? While my teachers/careers advisor told me I should, not sure anything medical would be for me…can get a bit squeamish.

If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates? “I…think you’re in the wrong place, but while you’re here, I hear you had a bloody awesome time down there…pull up a cloud and tell me all about it!”

What sound or noise do you hate? Anything along the lines of cracking knuckles. Those kinds of noises (teeth grinding, popping joints) just make me feel ill

OMFG.... me too. It makes me cringe.

And I'm glad Britwitch has more dilligent cowriters than myself, otherwise we wouldn't see her writing nearly enough. What I like is the breadth of characters and stories she takes on and, for someone who's so good, she pretty much gives anyone competent a chance.

And confession: I've laughed with her often on the mutilation of language, so much so that she has me in feats of laughter (much needed usually) and if she peaks my interest one more time I'll be eternally greatful.

Time for another! This time we have DeevaLicious, who I was able to coax a reply out of eventually.

Like there was any doubt.

What is your screenname?
Deevalicious

Why did you choose that?
I’m a delicious diva. Or my name is Dee and at the time of signing up for Lit, had an affection for the song Fergalicious. I’d prefer to say I’m delicious though. Just sayin’.

Why did you choose the av and/or sig you're currently using?
I have a thing for fishnets and sexy shoes. Bingo.

As specific or vague as you would like to be, what is your...

What is it that you enjoy about writing SRPs? Collaborating on a story with another person is challenging and rewarding. You never know what to expect from post to post. A good partner pushes you out of your comfort zone and makes you want to be better. Writing here helped me begin to really learn my craft.

What is it that you enjoy about writing in general? It’s a creative outlet. I build a character from scratch and live out fantasies.

What inspiration do you use to write? My partner, music, nature, friends.

Do you write with something on (music, TV, etc), or silence? Music…pretty much always. Never the TV because it distracts me.

Do you edit your posts? Yes. I edit myself to death. And I still miss things sometimes and it pisses me off. I’m my worst critic.

If so, do you do so as you write, or after finishing? During and after.

What character you've created is your favorite, and why? It’s tough to decide between two of them. Gypsy, in “A Slave For Gypsy” with Nightfreak. It was with someone that at the time was very dear to me. He’s the one that pushed me to not be afraid to write and to embrace my dominant side. It wasn’t a perfect thread, and we never completed it, but it meant a lot to me. The other one I loved was Paige from “Love Bites” with Zom_Dom. I was very intimidated to even write with him because he was so good, and really wordy, but he encouraged me and taught me to ‘show’ instead of ‘tell’ in my writing. I flaked out on him and left Lit for a while so we didn’t get very far. But it was fun while it lasted.

What character you've created is your least favorite, and why? Brianna, a Draenei hunter in a WoW thread. I was new to Lit and new to WoW so it was a fail in every way. cringes

What is your favorite thread you are or have been involved in?
Pia’s Pretty Boy

What is your favorite thread you were not involved in?
Pretty much anything between Fuckmeat and The_PG. I love dark and sadistic writing.

Outside of Lit, what do you read?
Everything. All Romance and Erotica genres. Crime, Paranormal, Biographies and Young Adult fiction.

What is your favorite thing about the way you write? I write with feeling. I edit.

If you could change one thing about the way you write, what would it be?
Cutting out unnecessary words. A higher word count doesn’t mean a better story.

And lastly, the Famous 10 Questions...

I read this to him. He laughed and said he liked the thread too. He also says, "Hi, how's it going and keep writing!" I think he even added a thumbs up at the end.

I kind of liked seeing that you enjoyed writing with him. Since I detested it!

I feel like this is gospel truth.
