Let's talk about the word "curvy"

So for me, curvy means that you do not have the figure of a 14 year old boy. I am not into young boys, so I would much rather look at women that look like women. Women that have womanly curves. Now I think that there are various degrees of curvyness. None in my book have any negative connotations.

If you look at some of the classic beauties of all times, such as Marilyn Monroe, they had some really nice womanly curves and looked like women are supposed to. If I recall correctly MM was like a size 10 or 12. She had curves but I don't think anyone would call her fat. Today's size 0 and smaller actresses, in my opinion are just too damned skinny. A case in point, if you look at Sarah Jessica Parker before she lost weight and after she lost all that weight. Before she was skinny but had some curves and looked good. Afterwards she looked like a boy and her face looked like she is strung out on heroin.

I guess my point is in my book curvy=good. And you SS have a damned near perfect body.

I couldn't agree more, skin and bones just does not look healthy.... Curvy looks so sexy and to me shows a lady that's full of life and likes to enjoy it. She can sit and have a beer and wings with you and relax without counting the calories......:)

A curvy woman to me is a woman who has hips and breasts. Weight to me has nothing to do with it.

This is exactly what I was going to say. When I think 'curvy,' I think hips and breasts. 'Overweight,' for lack of a better term, is sort of like... correlation but not causation. They can go together, but they don't necessarily, and one does not imply the other.

But, and I think this thread shows it/will show it, when you're dealing with a descriptive term like that, you're not really going to see a consensus.

Another part of the overall problem is so many terms for women can carry a negative connotation, even though they shouldn't.

There is something else that happens around 'curvy,' too, that I think is unfortunate.

Some women are rail thin, and don't really have much in the way of hips or breasts... and that's okay. Maybe you're not attracted to them, but it doesn't mean they are unattractive, or look like pubescent boys, or anything like that. Too often, in the well-intentioned rush to say one body type is attractive, people put down another one. It's no better than someone saying that they like thin girls because 'curvy' girls are fat and they're not attracted to fat women.

Be attracted to what you would think of as 'curvy' or don't, but there's no need to body shame someone that doesn't fit that type.

I'll join in with those who have said that "curvy" has more to do with shape than with weight, at least in my mind. I've never used the term negatively and wouldn't think to.

So are all overweight women "curvy"?

If we use the older meaning, then the answer is "no". The bust to waist to hips proportions are the essential characteristics of 'curvy' or 'curvaceous'.

By the way, I would use either curvaceous or voluptuous (voluptuous being a subtype subsumed in curvaceous, often entailing larger breast size in proportion to waist and hips) with respect to your body shape, and either term would be intended as complimentary. From what I have seen from your pictures, you have a fantastic shape.

One of the things I most enjoy is to run my hands along the contour of a woman lying on her side, and that experience is much more enjoyable for me when the woman in question has well rounded curves. My wife has such curves, and as I rub her side, I marvel in the way my hand rises along her hip as I move up her leg, then falls in a curve to her waist, only to rise again along her torso, as if I am feeling the shape of femininity itself when I rub her. I am envious of a man who would have the good fortune to experience the contour of you in that way.

I have never used the word curvy do describe a woman as being over weight. To me, curves are the best part of a woman. So if I use the term, it is meant solely as a compliment.

Tits and ass with a waist in between

From 7 of 9 to Monroe and 40s pin-ups but no not overweight

Curvy to me means sensual lines - real tits, real ass, and a pleasure to roam my hands and lips over. I definitely intend it in a positive sense - I love my woman with a bit of meat on her bones, stick figures and angular hips need not apply. I'd be mortified if I knew someone had interpreted my description as implying overweight or a anything other than an admiring compliment.
Jessica Rabbit is curvy - with a Va-Va-Voom. And I can sooo see you filling out a Jessica Rabbit dress and making jaws drop Sam!

No

Love everyone's responses. Keep them coming!

I am good with the size 8-14 range. :) (and you are so not "a lot bigger" than me, sister)

So are all overweight women "curvy"?

Kathy Bates is overweight but not curvy. Ditto Rosie O'Donnell. Hillary Clinton.

Curvy is a shape, but I agree it can often be used as a politically correct way to call a woman fat-I think it has somewhat replaced the ever-famous "big boned",

You are curvy, sexy, desirable, shapely, hot, etc etc. I love women of all shapes and sizes, but if I could build one in a lab you would prototype 1A.

curv·y [kur-vee]
adjective, curv·i·er, curv·i·est.

1. curved.
2. Informal. curvaceous.
3. Awesome Sexy Womanly Voluptuousness in all it's glory.

I use curvy to describe someone with nice soft lines but who is proportionate. I'm not thin but when I've tried to find words to describe my figure, BBW or chubby just don't work because they tend to make me (and others) think of lumps and bumps rather than flowing soft lines. So, for me, curvy means my body has a well defined feminine shape. when I use it to describe another woman it means the same: Well defined womanly shape (hips, full breasts, waist, legs not too thin). A woman can be curvy and wear a size 6 or size 16 depending on how she carries her weight[/QUOTE

I think this explains it perfectly. Well said.

Curvy women:
Mae West
Jessica Simpson
Anna Nicole Smith
Jane Russell
My High School Spanish teacher
The woman who sits across from me at work

All sexy. All curvy.
You are in a attractive club

I love all of the responses. Thanks all, and I look forward to hearing from more folks.

In the meantime, I feel I need to add a point or two of clarification:

It's been pointed out to me that I likely started this thread to disassociate myself from women larger than I am. That wasn't my intent, and I apologize that it came across that way. I really was just curious how other people use it, and how other women take it when it's used toward them.

I perhaps shouldn't have added my personal feelings in the first post, because I also didn't mean for all of you to send me the incredible love you have here. :) I wasn't fishing for compliments (shocking, I know - I usually am in a constant state of attention whore-dom on my own thread ). Was more intending for a general discussion. But all of the compliments are MOST appreciated. (Now, go share them in unabashed abundance on my pic thread ;) )

I cannot express how much I LOVE this description here. It's beautifully erotic. Well done, you. ;)

And I'm totally sharing this thread with my husband. I get that people have preferences in body types they're attracted to - I certainly have certain types of men that I like and that I don't like. But I'm still sharing it with him. :)

You made me think about what curvy really is......it's not derogative by any means...I think that she has some bounce when she moves, which I always find fun to watch.

Thank you. My wife is always my first and best inspiration, although I will say, with respect to the topic at hand, that this thread, and especially the thread originator, certainly contributed as well.

I am glad you said this. I agree. :rose:

From way back when I was just entering puberty and my dream woman was Raquel Welch I have thought curvy = sexy as hell. I thought she was curvy and still do. And just as an aside, as an admirer of yours, you have the curves to beat her hands down. (sorry I know I wasn't supposed to get personal)
But really my wife has curves and most of the women I tend to look at have curves. I just think that a woman who is busty and has hips to match is curvy and to me that makes them very sexy.

What type of woman do you think of when you hear her described as "curvy"? Or, better yet, what do you mean when you yourself call a woman "curvy"?

I am often described as "curvy" and I know it's meant as a compliment from the men who say it to me. But, I sometimes can't help attaching a negative connotation to the word. Does it imply being overweight?

I do think curvy is used in pop culture now to describe people like Scarlett Johanson (who cannot be more than a US size 2), or Mindy Kaling, or Melissa McCarthy. So, it would seem that the word has morphed into a description of a body type, and not just for an overweight woman?

Thoughts? Men, women, please chime in.

From my prospective "curvy" has nothing to do with weight...it has everything to do with being shapely and that is a GOOD thing!
