Let's talk about the word "curvy"

I've had many use the term curvy or voluptuous to describe me but I'm a lot bigger than Sam and definitely overweight. However I do have the hourglass figure.

I think sometime people use the term curvy to be nice to bigger girls like me... However I see it as someone who is like Marilyn Monroe... An 8-14 range. I'm more rubenesque and I'm alright with that.

I think this also. But to me it just seems like a nice way of saying overweight. Which I am, so I'm the first one to own that. It actually irritates the hell out of me when someone tries to argue that I'm not.. "uh, hello, i'm 4'11, I'm not suppose to weigh more then my 6'2 husband"

Curvy, hmmm, to me curvy is a beautiful shape. It does not really have a size related to it.

Sometimes I wonder if these curvy goddesses really know how god damn sexy they look.
*Kisses, cuddles, and hugs to you all*

In the amateur Pic threads I have seen women describe themselves as curvy when what they mean is overweight. I'm no fan of stick insects. I like a girl to look like a girl, and I like curvy.

To me a girl who when she sits on her heels depicts the classic pear shape from the back is curvy. A girl whose breast push her shirt out so that it has to be gathered in at the waist is curvy. It's an overall shape not size. Marilyn Monroe was curvy Kiera Knightley is not.

You Sweet Sam are most definitely curvy

Not negative at all... Most of guy friends want women who are size 2-5 they look like skeletons, bones walking around! Curvy isn't meant to be negative at all, means u have a chest not nubs, you have a waist, and you have meat on your butt and thighs.
Women that are curvy still come in all shapes and sizes..
You have a great body, u are not fat! You are all the above and very sexy!
Even my wife says "her body is perfect! Love the curves and would love to snuggle with her"

I think women with curves are beautiful, have you ever seen anyone actually want to paint skelteon jacks female verison?

And this is what I'm talking about.

Why can't you just say "I think women with curves are beautiful," and stop there? Why do you have to denigrate women with a different body type while trying to build up women with a different body type?

Why can't we accept that you are attracted to one type, and other people to another, and both of those are perfectly valid?

What type of woman do you think of when you hear her described as "curvy"? Or, better yet, what do you mean when you yourself call a woman "curvy"?

I am often described as "curvy" and I know it's meant as a compliment from the men who say it to me. But, I sometimes can't help attaching a negative connotation to the word. Does it imply being overweight?

I do think curvy is used in pop culture now to describe people like Scarlett Johanson (who cannot be more than a US size 2), or Mindy Kaling, or Melissa McCarthy. So, it would seem that the word has morphed into a description of a body type, and not just for an overweight woman?

Thoughts? Men, women, please chime in.

Sam,
I think the term curvy has been appropriated by the political correctness police to lessen the harshness of the term obese. Curvy is how a woman is generally supposed to look. I think it relates to proportions more than anything else. The usual standard is for a woman to have a bigger bust and bigger hips than her waist. This leaves a lot of different figures which can fit into that definition. Generally men are associated with having a linear torso, and sometimes having bigger hips. When viewed that way, it is just a gender standard being described.
However, what is true is that it is the inexplicable chemistry in the attraction between people that really makes something beautiful in the eyes of the beholder. You have a gorgeous figure, and your sexiness is bolstered by the wit and substance of your comments. Curvy is no denigration to describing you. The bottom line is that if your lover feels that you fit nicely in his embrace, then you don't need to worry about any connotations of a description.

My free opinion, and worth every penny paid for it.

I saw a woman on a nude beach in Miami about ten years ago with an amazing body. She carried herself well and the way she walked across the sand was just damned sexy. Classic hourglass figure with smooth tanned skin and beautiful face and hair. Did I mention she was at least 250 pounds?

Weight means nothing when it comes to my definition of the word "curvy." Proportions are the differentiator.

When I think of curvy, I think of this little sketch I drew up (although I think I made her a little top-heavy, or maybe not enough ass to balance out the top ... whatever, you get the idea):

I also think the word has been appropriated by overweight women to make themselves feel better about their size. If you have to lift your belly to adjust your waistband, you're no longer curvy; you need to start exercising.

One of the things I most enjoy is to run my hands along the contour of a woman lying on her side, and that experience is much more enjoyable for me when the woman in question has well rounded curves. My wife has such curves, and as I rub her side, I marvel in the way my hand rises along her hip as I move up her leg, then falls in a curve to her waist, only to rise again along her torso, as if I am feeling the shape of femininity itself when I rub her. I am envious of a man who would have the good fortune to experience the contour of you in that way.

I so agree with this too ... how's this for a gloriously beautiful curvy body ...

Just a little top-heavy! Ha - she looks like she'd be in a perpetual state of falling forward. Poor thing. ;) I can empathize.

Careful!! :)

I agree with what everyone has said. An hourglass figure with larger than average breasts and nicely sloping curves from waist to hips and ass. To me it definitely does not mean overweight and is most certainly not a negative description.

Amen brother.

A little while ago, someone in real life described me as "all woman." I was sure it was code for overweight back then, but I now think he might have been digging on my body. All of these message we women get and absorb - it's tough to sift through sometimes.

Not code. He was.

I think "Curvey" = Beautiful :D

"Curvey" is a good thing in my eyes.

Curvy doesn't denote any size, it is in reference to a shape. To me curvy means an hourglass or cello figure---full breasts, waist that is smaller than the hips and bust, and a round ass. Hence....curves. Those who have seen my pics on the amateur thread can decide on my figure type.

You're lovely. :) :)

"all woman" as in, "she's all woman" or "you're all woman" is without a doubt a compliment. He meant, "you're all woman" in that there'd be no mistaking you for either a teenaged boy (i.e. some fashion models) or a linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers. You have hips and boobs and a waist that accentuates both (my definition of "curvy" for the record) and, if viewed from the profile, your ass curves out backwards as far as your boobs do frontwards (if we're lucky).

As a connoisseur of the female form and one who has seen many of your pictures, that guy was right, you're all woman!

"Thick" "curvy" "full-figured" "bbw" "plus sized" ...they're seemingly the same yet different for each person. I've been called those names and more, the funniest a "curvy cougar" what?! I am NOT that old

I don't subscribe to labels. I am a woman not a label. The dumbest thing women/men can ever do is label a woman. Women have enough self image issues as is. Just look at the cover of any Cosmo, glamour, etc., and women are continually under pressure to "look younger" "lose 5 pounds in 1 week" "be hot" blah blah. Men don't have that problem - they're never bombarded w/ a magazine that instructs them to "lose the beer belly" "get rock hard abs in 2 weeks" "perform better in bed" or anything like that.

I once had a date who told me that I would look so much hotter if I lost some weight. I told him he was right, and I told him to get the hell out of my car. He looked stunned and I told him I just lost over 150 pounds of dead weight...the look on his face was priceless :)

Pretty much I'm good w/ who I am, and I'm working to change what I can for me.

Love it!!

I went from a size 16 to a size 10. I have curves, curves that no one ever appreciates. Maybe my body would be better proportioned if I had bigger breasts, I struggle to fill an A cup. When I see women that are smaller than me I do get a tad bit jealous but I wasn't lucky enough to get the "skinny" gene. My body is what it is. I'm the one that has to live in it.
