Let's talk about the word "curvy"

Generally when I hear the term 'curvy' I think of an hour glass figure. Someone with defined, almost exaggerated curves. I don't think that it matters how large or small you are, it is the shape of the body. I do find many overweight women, that don't have a curvy shape per say, referring to themselves as curvy. I think it is more of a means to make themselves feel sexy, and a rebuttal to the idealized standard of beauty that our culture sets forth. Now before I have everyone up my ass.. I did not say that women that are overweight are not, or cannot be sexy. I am just saying that there is an idealized standard of beauty crammed down our throats through pop culture and media which can make larger women feel unattractive and because the term "curvy" is ambiguous (as this thread is proving) there is a certain safety from being stigmatized when using it. With that said, it is sad that because society is so judgmental, this even needs to be a discussion at all. Sexiness and beauty should be based more on how a women acts and carries herself and less on physical attributes.

Curvy used to mean something good. Now that the word has been adopted by fat chicks, it simply means fat.

Why the hell is this thread attracting so many trolls?? How did this turn into a fat shaming thread? Come on, people!

Oh look! It's Christina Hendricks again!

What kills me, you have all these other much more disgusting threads such as family incest, pissing, etc, and they never get troll comments. Someone makes a thread celebrating curves and it becomes bombarded with hateful folks. I can never understand that. I have no idea why people have a problem with certain people calling themselves 'curvy'. It is just a label. If they can't find a certain type of woman attractive, that's cool, but there shouldn't be a need for trashy comments. And one thing I have noticed about these people who have made negative comments is that they are hateful people all around. So it's no loss.

The beauty of a woman
isn't in the clothes she wears,
The figure that she carries,
or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman
must be seen from in her eyes;
Because that's the doorway to her heart,
the place where love resides.

The beauty of a woman
isn't in a facial mole;
But true beauty in a woman,
is reflected by her soul.

It's the caring that she cares to give,
the passion that she shows;
And the beauty of a woman
with passing years only grows.

Where?

Are you a depressed teenager?

Curvy means shapely to me. Jane Mansfield, Marilyn Monroe. Something to hold on to, as it were. Very hot in my opinion.

Ok so, it looks like there are many versions of curvy. One man's curvy is another man's fat, while another man's curvy is yet smothers flat. These are all personal opinions and not based on fact. And we all know what they say about opinions. That being said, I see no reason to belittle, berate or otherwise harass someone for their opinion. Just remember the old saying, "if you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all." Last but not least don't feed the trolls.;)

How about we stop talking about obesity. No one gives two fucks. If you care about that, go have a cup of tea with Michelle Obama and discuss fat kids and lunch menus.

Let's talk about curvy women and big boobies.

Beautiful. Average weight and gorgeous - not emaciated sticks in other words.

Amen! As a larger woman with plenty of what has been defined on here as "curvy" (hips, breasts, etc.), I find that I may or may not be the desire of every man out there, nor do I want to be, but it is my own opinion about myself and my attitude that make me who I am, and not necessarily how I look.

Curvy is about shape...fuller hips and bust with a waist that curves in. I've seen it in women who are size 2. I've seen it in women who are size 22. I've seen others refer to the smaller version of that woman using words like "that woman needs a sandwich", while others refer to the same woman as "shapely". I've seen others refer to the larger version as "a whale" while others refer to the exact same woman as "full figured" or "womanly".

In part of what I do, I design women's clothing and help them find styles and shapes that suit them, no matter what their shape or size. There are two things I've discovered: 1) every woman, no matter what her size or shape, has something she's self-conscious about, and 2) no one sees that particular thing when they look at her.

Curvy is about shape...soft flowing curves of the body.

The sandwich and whale comments. Its sad that people are so damn shallow. I know beautiful women of all body types. If she is healthy then any body type is cool! All guys have a preference just as women do. But that doesnt lesson the other women. Be proud of what youve got ladies!!
