*A wolf cub becomes a very good friend, especially when you share the last of your dried venison with him. But elves must eat too. Fortunately, I can find enough fruits and nuts and herbs in the forest to satisfy me. Not so interesting to wolf cubs though. He chooses to stay and guard. I admire his loyalty.
A brief bit of foraging later, and I return, noting that Luna has come. I watch her a moment from the edge of the clearing, her attention focused on her writing. Dragon is back, and one other. The wolf cub knows I'm there, and I'd wager money that Luna does too. No sense in lurking about, and I'm happy to see her.
Approaching quietly, not wishing to disturb her concentration, I stoop to give the cub a little pet, and find a place on the porch near her to sit.*
