I have one hell of a niave/innocent streak, recognize it, and use every freaking tool/resource at my fingertips to make good decisions in spite of it. To do otherwise would mean abdicating my personal responsibility to ensure my physical and mental health/safety. If I were to wander about thinking my Pollyanna outlook on life relieves me of the obligation to ensure my own safety, I'd just hand the housekeys over to the wolves, and be done with it.

Honestly, the "... but I'm niave" argument is one of my hot buttons.

It's an absolute bullshit excuse to repeatedly make contemptuously hideous decisions, then whine about how the big bad mean people did XYZ and it isn't your fault... because you're just about as (stupid) trusting as the 5 year old who believes the mountain lion means it when he says the only thing in his cave is DVDs of Cinderella, and piles and piles of candy, so really- it isn't your fault you got eaten; you're niave!
