No, it's not a story idea.

I'm thinking about making a sticky thread right here which'll contain links to the best written stories (for every category) and a link to a few author's submission page whose works are recommendable. It will be updated regularly.

They don't have to be on the Hall of Fames or even in the most Favourite Authors list. They just have to be good in any department you think is great (Plot, Narrative, Erotica, Humour)
....

Bard.

Are you thinking of curated lists of stories? Because that is what I am thinking of.

But you gotta be different to the "Best of [Genre]" because the Hall of Fame already does that. So it would be something like: most erotic writing, most suspenseful scene, silliest sex scene, wordsmith award, best invented metaphor and etc.

Maybe some people could take this as an opportunity to mention top rated incest stories that have come out in the close to three years since the all time list has been "broken"

That way some authors other than the same ones could get some attention in that category.

In my opinion....

I would rather the thread not have a name associated to it and I'll explain why because I mean no offense to Bard.

If I see so and so's story picks or recommendations my first thought is, well if his taste and mine don't match, this is a waste. I may not even click on it.

But if its a more generic title....Readers, recommend your favorite stories here...it shows it will have variety.

Again, just my take.

Another thing I'd like to see , but doubt it would happen, is to somehow ask that people recommend stories that are a little more obscure.

fact is when someone says "Tx Tall Tales or Selena Kitt" or mentions stories like Paco Fear's "Words on Skin"

They get more than enough attention already, along with any story sitting at or near the top of a top list or an author who is sitting high on the fav author list.

Bottom line is most people already know them or if they don't will find them because they show up in a lot of places.

When someone contacts me and says, "Seen you on the boards, would like to check out your stories, what do you recommend?" I don't send them links to anything I have that's had success here I send them something on my page that's more obscure that could use a comment or some feedback.

Many of my favorite stories here are ones most have not heard of and I bet that's the same for many.

So when Bard gets this running I'll mention those stories and their genre and try to stick to that, I hope others will make an effort to link some "undiscovered gems" and not just the already "big shot" stories.

Just my take on it.

I like your idea because of what I experience hunting noir books. Virtually everyone lists or recommends the same noir writers yet I occasionally fall over other writers worth reading but obscure. Chester Himes comes to mind, as do many black noir writers.

Which they can do and have been doing (could do more of that, of course, I think--which I've already posted) without having the name of the Self-Anointed One slapped on it.

Did you read my post on the updated idea? Oh no, you definitely didn't. You want to whine, right?

Go ahead, I'll just close my ears.

It can simply be called story recomendations leave "best" out of it.

Just a thread fro people to share the links of stories they have enjoyed.

I just did. Read the OP. I fixed it with the link to the updated idea.

Bard,

Unlike the comments you seem to be getting, I actually think this a good idea... with one minor change. Gather up a small board of authors and readers and take submissions from this group only. The task would be to make sure the board members are diverse enough. That might mean that you would have to include readers/writers from multiple factions of sections like LW and Incest to get a good cross section of stories.

Of course with a board you would have to listen to people whining and flinging insults about who is and isn't included on the board. Maybe of JBJ and Pilot are on the board, the number of nasty comments will be minimal. Of course I am joking. Their posts on this thread tell me that they have a lot of passion on this subject.

Bottom line for me is I would probably read the stories selected as "good" by a well rounded board of Lit users. OMG, did I just suggest we start some sort of sick ass book club for wack off stories? I think I did.

Maybe. Maybe not. I don't see many actually that interested in the idea to actively pursue it.

I would read at least some of the recommendations, probably, because I have a limited time and access to the stories, and this way I'd get to sample more of the site than the stories I reach now. I won't limit myself to the recommendations, of course.
The new wording is nicely more diplomatic and will make clear stories have been filtered through your "taste buds". Unless everyone posts and you get recommendations by PM, which it doesn't look like you will. As a reader, I do care who recommends because my tastes may align more or less with a particular author's. The Poetry Hangout has something along these lines, with everyone posting suggestions. I like that thread. It's a great complement to the Top Lists and to random walking through story and poem space.

Pity some people can't notice that.

That is what I'm trying to achieve here.

Me neither, which, frankly is why I'm outraged that Bard went there on that point and why I see images of a crowd gathering around him drinking Kool-Aid that might lead to the easy button adulation he seems to be after.

The bottom line is that no one can do more here than note what they liked, on individualistic criteria, of the little they are able to read of what Literotica offers. They aren't in a position to claim anything is the best of anything here and would be asses to claim they could do so. We already occasionally have posters post here what stories they liked enough to note that here--which is a good thing, but which isn't what has been and is being proposed.

What we have here is a meglomaniac forum monitor (who, incidentally, has zero stories of his own posted to Literotica, has only been here for a year, and feels qualified to pontificate on who are the best writers here), which has been demonstrated in more than one dimension.

Bitch, I'll say once again, go read the updated version instead of whining about the same itch again and again and again.

Tick in all the right boxes. As someone said earlier, Hall-of-Fames do that already. I'm trying to bring out long forgotten and obscure but still great stories that just don't get read.

Nah. That'd require much more manpower. The website already does that with that "Annual Contests" (or something like that).

If you read the OP again, I've included that "Best of" title won't be included in the thread name.

And pilot is still whining about that.

Bard has already removed the "Best" part. Almost all of your posts (even after he clarified it) still deals with this problem.

And Besides, most of the time it's the readers who judge a story for what it is. Posting hundreds of stories doesn't make someone a better judge either.

It's not necessary that he like every suggestion. That's the reason of the filter. That's why it's going to be named "Bard's story Picks" and not "Best Stories".

Here's two from me I'll put here in case for whatever reason the thread doesn't get going at least I listed them

Both are fetish stories, foot fetish, Lesbian foot fetish in particular which is a kink of mine. Both are just fun stories by unknowns that hit the sweet spots

Pedicure with the New Girl Danielle Moore

http://www.literotica.com/s/pedicure-with-the-new-girl

The Game is Afoot by Squires Boy

http://www.literotica.com/s/the-game-is-afoot

both are short and fun
Will check that out. Post anything more that you can find. Thanks!

The issue is: IT AINT TARDS BOARD. He's a mod. His mission is to remove spam and posts that violate policy. A story discussion board already exists. Here folks voluntarily bring their wares for criticism.

Mods are regular posters too. Unless, there's a rule somewhere that states that the only thing that a Mod can do is to reiterate the site rules for everyone.

Story Feedback: Post Feedback about stories you love or hate.

That's what's he doing, if you read how he described his favourites.

I suggest you read Laurels sticky for the flavor of this board.

I suppose you could make a case for story discussion but that forum has little traffic.

I think it fits here. Its people giving good feedback to stories bu saying hey I liked this check it out.

Read the Truby post about dolts reviewing stories. You don't get useful or informed feedback here.

Where should the thread belong?

A sticky over at STORY DISCUSSION seems clear that both boards are for writer submissions: One for limited feedback, and the other for OCD criticism. I'm thinking one is intended for particular problems, and the other is for specific or general problems. Particular means relevant to one sentence or paragraph. Specific means relevant to all ocurrences of the issue within a story. And General means relevant to all writing by everyone.

Gathering the various erm...thoughts, I've changed the idea to this:

> It won't be a sticky.

Mostly because sticky threads are for posting rules and advertisement for stories in a forum. I'll be misusing it if I do that, so no sticky. I primarily thought about this because that thread would take time to get updated, and I compared the idea to the story advertisement thread here.

Anyhow, sticky it won't be.

> Title would be something like: "The Soulful Bard's Story picks" or something like this. No "Best Stories" or similar crap. That would be just plain...wrong, as a user put it in the PM.

> Stories and Author suggestion are welcome, as always, in this thread.

I never claimed to read every work here, but I want to read everything that's great, however fractional it might be as compared to the vast amount of stories here.

Thanks again to all who suggested authors and stories alike!

  • OK, so if this "thread" would have suggestions from others, then they wouldn't be "The Soulful Bard's Story picks", would they? They would be story picks from others who happened to read something they liked out of the thousands of stories Lit offers.

  • Why would I choose to read a story someone else said was good if I didn't have any idea who that person was or what their particular tastes were? Because a thread is open to everyone, not just the authors who post often enough to make their preferences known.

  • I know this has been mentioned before but what I call a great story isn't going to match what someone else calls great.

  • I didn't look for it, but there was a thread (in the Ah, I believe) on story reviews. Authors took turns reading/reviewing stories each week. Your idea reminds me of that thread, which hasn't been very successful from what I remember.

  • If you want to read everything that's great on Lit, then start reading. Only you can determine whether a story is great or not to you.

Just my opinion.

Story Feedback: Post Feedback about stories you love or hate.

Any particular reason you misrepresented the explanation slug on Story Feedback?

Post your feedback about Literotica stories you love or hate!

Not connected to this thread discussion (at least yet), so I'm just curious why you misrepresented the Web site's own take on what this forum is.

On where the thread discussion has gone, I think a running thread on "Literotica stories I liked and recommend" is a good idea and belongs here on Story Feedback--even that it would be good to have it as a sticky, to keep it from sinking fast. The "I" here being anyone, not just a currying-favor pontification by a single self-proclaimed expert.

That, however, is a far cry from what was being proposed and what seems to important to Bard to keep as his personal satrapy, obviously to make himself a recognized authority on annointed stories at Lit. without having to do anything to earn that position, including posting stories of his own to Lit.

That was an honest mistake. I wrote what I remembered, not exactly quoting the slug. No intentions whatsoever.

Thanks. I'm glad, because that seems to become a sticking point here from time to time--and I can completely understand that Literotica wouldn't want to become a platform for stories and story sites that are competing with having the stories discussed here posted here.

Alright, so here's what I'm finally going to post as a thread:

Out of the thousands of stories here, I'm sure you've stumbled upon some stories and authors alike which have left a lasting impression on you. This thread is dedicated to these Authors and stories.

They don't necessarily have to be in the Hall of Fame or even with the Red H or the Green E, just stories and Authors that you liked immensely.

So,

> Post a link to the stories that you liked.

For the benefit of those browsing the stories, please give a small description of the thing that you loved about it (whether it be humour, plot, narrative, erotica or anything else) that makes it stand apart from the rest of the stories. There's no restriction on categories whatsoever.

> If you liked a particular Author's submissions, add a link to his/her submission page. Again, for the benefit of the readers, please give a small description about what you liked about that particular author and a beginner's story you'd suggest for those who are not familiar with the Author.

I hope you all enjoy reading the stories and get to add new, unfamiliar authors and stories to your reading list.

Happy Reading!

Is this better?
