New chain story... Blossoming Rose.

I see what you're getting at cahab. And it could be done.

For example, the last date for v-day contest entries is 5th, 10 days before the day itself. We will miss just one or two chapters in between and working together of 2, or not more than 3 authors can acheive a contest entry. We can give a summary to the person writing the contest or we tell the peron who is writing the 5th - 14th part to post it in advance.

It can be done.

I will try and explain this one last time. Maybe it's me, I don't know.

Soap operas know what they are doing with the storyline many months ahead. It is worked out either by one person or a team, and the result is farmed out to writers who write the individual episodes.

If we want to write a story in advance we simply agree on the storylines for the intervening period, then write the story following that. We fill in the intervening episodes in the normal way. The final writer makes their story match up with both the previous and the next. Hey presto, continuous story.

For someone who was asking for a list of who was writing what, I fail to see how what you were originally asking for is any different. All we have to do is plot out a little way in advance; not right to the end, just a little way. Much as I did at the beginning with suggested plot lines for the first few weeks.

Well, so far the only WE in the group that I'm aware of is the singular WE that is you. So if you say it will work then I guess it will. It is primarily your chain story after all. Personally, I hadn't thought this to be like a Soap Opera, but then I don't watch them without getting pissed off at the writers, and turning to another channel. If you wish, I can withdraw from the group, or write the story that I've committed to already. However after that I will withdraw from the group.

Edited to include the following PS

PS: I never asked you for a list of who was writing what. It made no difference to me. What I did insist on was that you submit the first chain story properly with all of the requirments needed. You did, and that was that.

I didn't mean to offend, DM. I just feel a little like all you do is quibble, rather than helping.

You're right about me being to strong a force on this thread. I don't know about you withdrawing, but maybe I should. I certainly would if there were more writers involved, but at the moment it still looks like I might end up writing some more of these just to keep the thing moving. And this ISN'T my chain story. That's the point of a chain story, it belongs to all the writers.

Soaps over there, I'm aware, are very different to the ones here. I occasionally get pissed off at the storyliners of the soaps (for god' sake give these people a break, huh?) but hardly ever at the writers. Generally they're extremely well written.

The US never, to my knowledge, went in for soaps in the same way as the UK. Oh, I know you have 'as the stomach churns' and all that, we get them over here, and they're great fun for about five minutes, and then you have to throw things at the screen.

Perhaps a better analogy would be something like 'Friends', storylined well in advance, and then the individual episodes are written. 'Friends' and the other sitcoms are the subject of about as much press attention in the US as soaps are here in the UK. Which is not to say that all soaps here are of that quality (I used to live over the road from where they filmed 'Emmerdale'. Yeesh). For every 'Friends' there is a 'Good Morning Miami'.

Not to get in the middle of anything here, but I will:

I believe, Cahab, and I say this nicely, you did in an earlier post say to me, in fact, that I could not write or inquire to DN, or ask CM where either were going, or where they wanted to be taken. I don't really feel like scrolling back to quote anyone . . . lazy :)

In all fairness to Dirtman and those who have yet to write in the group, I would suggest staying with the original plan until all have written . . . then, you can change the rules, and make it a soap - people will stay or go at leisure, and no one will be too pissed off. Please recall, and be respectful that DM did not sign on for a soap.

Personally, I thought the purpose of this chain was to allow a writer the freedom to expand on what comes before. CREATIVITY - to interpret a character, to expand. The soap concept is good too . . . but I for one, would hate to see DM go at this point. I WAS soooo looking forward to seeing what he wrote, as I anticipate CM's write, and everyone else's.

Even added the name Ambrosia just to offset our aversion to DM's Diana Troy . . . . just to see where DM could go! Don't ruin my fun! ;)

My 50 bucks . . . :) offered in good nature.

Just curious, has CM submitted her part of the story yet? Or is it even finished?

Working on it. Had a busy weekend, so I was not able to write at all during that time. I should have it done by late tomorrow or early the next day.

CM

The problem with setting up the storyline in advance is that stories often get away from us. I think we've all experienced that. But that's just my thought...

Quick question. How is the group moving around? By bus?

CM

PS. I am on my last entry. Mine spanned four days. I have gotten the part written leading up to her encounter. I am now on the one where she is telling the Diary about what happened. It should be done sometime today. I will post it as soon as I am finished.

?!!

I have never said, or intended to imply, that anyone could not confer, or do whatever they want with this, other than to point out the original idea that people presumably signed on to.

You are right to say that the point is to be creative. Obviously having the chain starter still participating is stifling that creativity, and making you think too much inside the box.

To forestall that end, I shall respectfully bow out of this thread. As I said when I started, this thing either stands or falls on its own merits. I shouldn't be mothering it so much.

DM et al, tha ball is in your court. Goodbye, and god bless.

ARGHH!!

My three boys decided while Mommy was in the kitchen fixing lunch that it would be fun to get on Mommy's computer. All four pages of what I had written are gone, kaput, vamoosed, deleted.

Talk about wanting to scream. Talk about sitting in disbelief. Talk about frantically searching through the computer to see if it got saved in some weird place. Talk about seeing if there was any way to recover it.

The sad truth is that it is gone... all of it. So, I have to rewrite the entire thing, which means it might not be done by the end of the day like I had hoped.

CM (who's looking for a shoulder to cry on)

PS. Cahab get your butt back here, there is no reason for you to bow out of the chain that YOU started!!

CM - you can cry on mine. But you're being too nice. I think what you mean is:

CAHAB GET YOUR SWEET FUCKING ASS BACK HERE!!!!!

 for those who feel bad, and I don't JUST throw my lips around!

CH :)

This is entirely too much for me to cope with at my age, and health. And in as much as the starter of this thread has bowed out, so shall I. Too bad too, because it was just starting to come together nicely. Adou... Parting is such sweet sorrow... perchance now I can dream... and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go...

CM, so sorry to hear that. But knowing you, you'll write the lost part in aday whereas I'd just sulk for two days and waste at least a week in a rewrite. :( (I didn't even rewrite a story I lost because my brother lost it in formatting the PC, I'm that bad). G'luck with the rewrite. :)

cahab, DM, please get back here. If you're talkin about disagreements in a civilised way, like you've been doing so far, it's ok. We can decide things around here in a nice way.

DM, we need a chapter from you.
cahab, we need another one from you. Shortage of authors here.

GET BACK HERE!!!

Come on guys, there's no reason to bow out. We're just being literoticians...feeling the need to examine all things from every angle. No one is attacking or flaming...we're trying to figure out the best way to progress. We have some great authors and I'd like to see the chain progress. It's a great story, Cahab, and as the creator, you should be in on the process. And DM, for all that he and I disagree sometimes is a great writer too, and I'd hate to lose him.

Let's pull together and make this work.

CM...HUGS :rose: that totally and completely stinks.

Chapter 4 has been posted . . . somehow it says that it is chapter 34? I will have to inform the powers that be. Who are the powers that be?

Just PM Laurel. You can do that by clicking open any sticky on the Authors Hangout and then clicking on the PM button of the thread starter Laurel. Tell her your problem and she'll do it. :)

I was going to do the same to tell her to fix the link at the end of my chapter, which didn't come out right, but after the V-day contest is over.

Post a link to your chapter. :)

edit: Just thought of this. You can resubmit your chapter with the word 'edited' after the title (Blossoming Rose Ch. 03 - EDITED)and Laurel will take off the earlier version and post the edited, correctly titled version in its place. You will retain your old scores n views.

LOL Dampy,

I did rewrite it last night, up to five pages and over 2,000 words. Mainly what is left is the *juicy part*, lol. I should have it finished sometime today if the kids cooperate.

CM

Just curious. What was it that made you think I would rewrite it that quickly?

Simple. The way you've been churning out Survivor stories. Like you have about 15 people in your head who are constantly writing, writing, writing...

*weeping now* Damn. I try so hard to forget that!

Ah, so that's it. Well, DN has me beat right now. She's got about 20 points on me. I have slacked off a bit over the last couple of weeks. It hasn't helped that my weekends have been busy.

But yes, when I get an idea, I write, write, write and get lucky when the story flows well.

Don't feel too bad. I have a story that has been giving me fits since November and may never get finished.

I didn't even check DN. I'm scared.

I have too many stories which are stuck so you can't count your november one. :p

Last time I checked, she had 103. I am trailing in the 80s.

CM (who is going to try her best to catch up with DN this week)

Actually, just submit it as Ch 4 Edited...dont' make my story go away ;)

And CM...the only reason I'm currently leading is that I rounded out the Illustrated Poetry category. I'm worried about your 10 chapter story...mine is trailing at 4 chapters. But I must say, you inspire me to write :) Thanks for that :rose:

I'm working on my Audio and Illustrated Poetry so I can catch up, lol.

My 10 chapter story was my NaNo novel. I finally got it edited and submitted it. A little over 50,000 words split into 10 chapters.

LOL, you're motivating me to write too!
