Not Smoking

I just woke up half an hour ago, and it's funny that this is one of the first threads I read. Today is my quit day. I've been taking Zyban for a couple of weeks now. Probably should have quit by now.

I'm more nervous that I can't do it. I'm actually nervous about not being able to go to sleep tonight too. So I'm picking up some Gravol to enduce sleep just incase LOL

I don't know how helpful it will be for anybody, but while I was watching Dr. Phil he mentioned that the American Lung Association has an online quitting program that's free. I've been there before but think I might need to head on over and remind myself why I'm doing this probably by Monday LOL The link for it is below.

I wish us all good luck trying to kick this nasty habit. And hope nobody pisses us off to the point they could get hurt while this takes place LOL

That's the program I used to quit smoking (FFS) and I got the info from the Dr. Phil show. It works. I smoked for 7 years and I've been nicotine free for 6 months. Just work the lessons and do every activity, and be sure to participate in the message boards for support. YOU CAN DO IT!!!! :D

Day:6

Still times when I want a smoke. Thankfully, that doesn't last long.

I guess that is better than needing a smoke.

The only problem I've had with sleeping is if I have to many sweets it is harder to go to sleep at a reasonable hour.

Dreams...normal.

Sunday day 7.

I started on the second stage patch this morning, 14 Mg.

The wife has yet to start. No surprise there.

I told my kids that I'd stop on my bday (1 month and counting). This is a great thread, like you, I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Keep it up (the quitting that is).

Cheers,
Brad

Congrats to all who have stopped. I ceased about 25 years ago and about once a week get the urge, usually after a meal, but it soon passes. I know that one cigarette would start me off again. Stopped strong drink about the same time and I can't start - I don't like the taste anymore.

Day 12!! Congrats!! Keep up the good work!! I really admire your will power! Keep taking it one hour at a time. Say I can go this hour with out a cigarette and before you know it the day will be over!! Keep us posted on your progress.

The 12 Suggested Steps of Tic Tac Anonymous.

1.We admitted we were powerless over tic tacs--that our lives had become unmanageable.

2.Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity and the addiction to tic tacs.

3.Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God, as we understood Him and not tic tacs.

4.Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves while not checking our pockets for more tic tacs.

5.Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our tic tac addiction.

6.Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character caused by the abuse of tic tacs.

7.Humbly asked Him to remove our urge to hoard tic tacs.

8.Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all for blaming them when we ran out of tic tacs.

9.Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others or on a tic tac run.

10.Continued to take personal inventory and when we were craving tic tacs promptly admitted it.

11.Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out and to stop buying more tic tacs.

12.Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to tic tacaholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Congrats on what you have accomplished so far.

I quit smoking about three months ago, no patch, no pills, no nothing. It sucked, and I still get cravings. I gained about 7 pounds also - not happy about that.

I'm hooked on Dentyne Ice, I chew it all the time.

congratulations fgravb1 thats great. you've done something that not very many people have been able to. i hope your wife comes around too.

i wish that my husband would stop smoking like he keeps saying he will. so far he's not and i've since stopped taking him seriously, but i've also stopped budgeting money out for cigarettes. at this point i think the only thing that would make him stop is if i got lung cancer, (bad thing to joke about but he really doesn't see the damage it does to me. i'm allergic to him for gods sake)
. i'm upstairs with the comptuer which is where he usually smokes and my eyes and nose are watering so bad from all the cigarette ashes and smoke that has permeated this little space that my want to play on the computer has diminished almost entirely. eww. i'll have to read through all this thread and get some advice and also, people trying to quit, if you don't actually intend to quit don't taunt those around you with the idea, it's not nice. lol

PS sorry for the little hijack.

No problem at all.

Midnight tonight marks three weeks and also marks the end of the patches.

Now life might get very interesting...we will see.

The wife had to go to the doctor, and while is was there she got a script for some pills.

I have plenty of patches she can use.

She is on her second "last" carton of smokes.

So the queen of procrastination may try to stop smoking. Yes, life may get interesting. :D

Did I say that?

Fuck the lime pit, I'm talking mass grave here!

I went to the supermarket and people were always smiling and saying hello.

They didn't realize that I wasn't smiling...I was gritting my teeth.

And as for my eyes, well, they look like I'm high.

A few mini snickers bars and a half pack of tic tacs later and I feel better.

My wife thinks I broke that picture in the hallway on purpose, But I didn't.

I'll be alright in a couple of days.

(makes note to self to buy more stock in Tic Tacs)

Congrats on getting this far with winning the battle.

Oh, I'm hanging in there!

I've enjoyed most of the day drenched in cold sweat.

I have felt really good.

I knew when the patches ran out that the fun would start.

I'll be OK in a couple of days.

Congrats on your efforts!

There was an old thread on the How To years ago where I said all the details about quiting and I didn't want to try to repeat them.
However, I applaud you for quiting. I started very early and smoked for 25 years! It was very hard to quit. The final thing that helped me, and in other ways too, was a stop-smoking hypnotism seminar through the American Lung Assn. The tape that I still have from the class taught me self hypnosis and relaxation that I can still use in many other stressful situations. I recommend something like this for you.

Remember, you will be tempted and have the desire for a long time. It's normal.
If you happen to have a cigarette, remind yourself that you are a non-smoker who has had a cigarette, not a smoker again!

Here are some facts from the VA:
As soon as you snuff out that last cigarette, your body will begin a series of physiological changes:

* Within 20 minutes: Blood pressure, body temperature, and pulse rate will drop to normal.

* Within 8 hours: Smoker's breath disappears. Carbon Monoxide level in blood drops and oxygen level rises to normal.

* Within 24 hours: Chance of heart attack decreases.

* Within 3 days: Breathing is easier.

* Within 2 to 3 months: Circulation improves. Walking becomes easier. Lung capacity increases up to 30 percent.

* Within 1 to 9 months: Sinus congestion and shortness decreases. Cilia that sweep debris from your lungs grow back. Energy increases.

* Within 5 years: Lung cancer death rate for the averagefrom a pack-a-day smoker decreases by almost half. Stroke risk is reduced. Risk of mouth, throat, and esophageal cancer is half that of a smoker.

* Within 10 years: Lung cancer death rate is similar to that of a person who does not smoke. The pre-cancerous cells are replaced.

* Within 15 years: Risk of coronary heart disease is the same as a person who has never smoked.

GOOD QUITING TO YOU ALL! (It's not luck)

Day:28?

Well, four weeks anyway.

I found out some of the reasons I felt so bad was because of Sinus infection and such.

I feel a lot better now.

Stop smoking

I tried the smoke away system once! I had to take so many herbal horse pills by the end of the day I was puking my guts out! Needless to say, Good Luck!!

Thanks everyone for your support!

Would you believe this asshole (He knew that I had stopped smoking) offered me a Marlboro today.

Yeah, held the pack out and asked me if I wanted one.

I would have said, "Oh may I please?" and when he looked smug and said, "Sure!" grabbed them all then run into the john, crushed them and dumped them straight in the pan.

Then walked out calmly and sighed deeply and said, "Ah, I needed that!" and walked off.
