"One Night in XXX” Story Event: Official Support Thread

So, everybody who ever had sex in Denver is in the Mile High Club?

Yes and no. Stapleton Airport(which no longer exists) was just above a mile above sea level. Of course not all of Denver is. Even though everyone says it is.

Now if you live in Colorado Springs, then no matter where you are, you are above a mile high as it is some 6,035 feet above sea level.

Oh wow, then I can also claim membership! Not because of Denver, but Addis Ababa takes, according to this list, place number 5 of capital cities with highest altitude (2.355m / 1.46 miles).

And Bilbala is probably even higher!

Just have sex over a mile high in a bathroom. I don't think the rules stipulate that it has to be in a moving airplane. But you got the moving part down pat as the earth does spin around it's axis.

2nd within 5 months; brand-new planes, and probably the same malfunctioning. Computer taking over control from the pilots, telling the plane to move its nose down, and pilots unable to overrule.

Ah! that would do it. They said the machines would take over... but that's another story and has already been done by Arnold.

Then I hope old planes are still good, because that's most of what flies around here.

That’s fine. The rules are a guide, they’re not intended as a straitjacket. It’s not a competition so you go for it.

Thanks for the info!

My story has a brief epilogue that is set in the present day, as well as the night ending at dawn.

It will be my first submission in a few years, so (fingers crossed) 'yall will like it!

That’s great! Welcome back :D

Hi Chloe, relatively new author here. I'm going to throw my hat in this ring of yours with "One Night in the Emerald City" aka Seattle. Thanks for putting all this together!

Great! Welcome to Literotica and to the Authors Hangout. It’s great to see this story event encouraging writers new to Literotica to jump in and get there feet wet. Exactly what I was hoping for. Why not come over to Tex’s Coffee Shop thread and introduce yourself as well. Have a coffee, meet some of the regulars, and if you have any questions about Literotica, writing or anything else it’s a great place to ask.

So, everybody who ever had sex in Denver is in the Mile High Club?

Not everybody. There are parts of Denver that are less than a mile high.

When I lived out there, the bedroom town I lived in was over 5,800 ft. in elevation. So technically yes, every time the old lady and I got it on in the bathroom was renewing the Mile High Club membership.

Now as far as the "real" Mile High Club goes, has anybody see the bathrooms in the new Boeing planes (the MAX 9's)? They are so small, one of you better be a little person or a contortionist. If that trend continues, Denver just might be the only place you can get into the MHC.

Now for the reason I popped my head in. I am almost done with "One Night in Chloe" and I need to know if I can drop it off early? I have a bad case of distractitis (commonly known as "Oh look, something new, it's so shiny") and don't really trust myself to remember to get it in on time in April. It can sit and collect dust until the big unveil of all the stories, but at least it will be there for the reveal.

So if your story had someone who sniffs panties, would you put it in fetish? It's just one small element though, how they meet I guess.

I'm not really sure what category to put it in, or the title yet, still working with One Night In Smalltown USA. Need to pick a small town...

No, not unless that were the main theme. Unless you include one of the trump elements like incest, or gay male, then you would probably just use the category for the main erotic theme in the story.

That's what I was thinking, although it will probably come up again a time or two later. I guess I'll wait to read over the final story and see how much panty sniffing plays in it :D

THANKS!

I may be too wordy for this. I'm still at the start up point but am already 2500 words in. I was trying...hoping...to write something quick and short but I don't know if that's possible.

I wrote through mine fairly quickly. That got the story down, anyway. Then I set it aside for a week or two before I read it again. It seemed a little rushed, so now I'm going back through and fleshing it out. Yes, the good knight Gascon who is so severely treated by the Red Witch does turn out to be a lying traitor.

There. Spoiler.

I'm not sure I would worry too much about being too long. I'm actually loosing affection for mine because it feels unfinished. I blame that more on the contest premise of everything happening in just one night though. I know the whole point of the game is to craft a 'one night realty', I'm just not sure mine is doing that well enough. I had planned on a Romance category entry...but am having second thoughts now about the lack of it being long enough (complete enough). I wouldn't be surprised if this one hits the trash bin

So write it as it needs to be written, and remove it from the anthology if you think the "one night" guideline is too much of a constraint.

These little "this is not a contest" theme collections aren't meant to be absolutes with rules (which, reading this thread, is how many folk seem to be treating them), they're the equivalent of party games. If your story is spinning a different bottle, surely the integrity of the story is far more important than the premise of the collection. Talking about trashing a story just because it won't all fit in one night is crazy talk. Sounds to me like you need to romance your protagonists' pants down, even if it takes all week, or a month, or a year. If the story you're writing is following its own set of rules (which mine, for example, always tend to do), then your job as writer is to keep up, and do what your characters tell you to do.

No more of this quitting talk, Yukon. Go sit on the porch until you freeze your ass off, and then come inside and write what must be written :).

I appreciate the input EB. The flaw is not so much with the "event constraints" as it is that I came up with the idea of the story based on that constraint...and now I'm not really feeling a lot of affection for it. To make it a longer, more complete, story would just make a longer unsatisfying story, etc.

Isn't 'unfinished' part of the charm of this contest? In my case, I see it as the start of something new. But it could also be a 'no strings attached' kind of thing; one-night-stands isn't just a fictional thing, right?

Weren't you intending to write something related to a song? Can't you let the song complete your story?

You could also change the category, if you think Romance isn't suitable; would Erotic Couplings work, for example?

Thanks Ruben, I thought about Erotic Couplings. It seems to me that EC is sort of a 'dead-pool' for stories that have no place else to go and die. Why put a bad story up just because it got written? And about the song; I'm thinking if anything it should be posted in Mature, since only old folks would know the song intimately enough for them to "get" the story. But alas, no old folks are in the actual story so mature would never fly.

I hate to just throw stuff out and see if it'll stick to a wall. I haven't put a bullet in the poor story's head yet...and it's still a month away before I have to decide. Thanks for your ideas though.

Not what I've found. It's a bit of a catch-all, yes, but you'll get some reaction - more so than other categories, I've recently found.

Those Group folk, f'rinstance, they'll read your stuff, but they certainly don't vote much. My usual ratio is one vote per hundred views, I've got two chapters there tracking at one vote per two hundred, which is just odd because they're chapters of a five-parter. So only those folk who've read the earlier chapters are going to be clicking in, right? Apparently not - the latest chapter has 20% more views than the chapter before, which is counter-intuitive to me. Unless folk are reading it twice.

To me, EC seems to be a 'no strings attached' kind of category. Boy and girl meet, they do their thing, and what happens afterwards doesn't have to be mentioned.

I guess the EC readers are as loyal as the characters in the stories... :D

In most categories, posting a new story gets people to read other stories in the same or related categories, but it seems like no-one reads old EC stories, and posting in EC doesn't do much to change that. I can get quite a few reads (and some odd voting behavior) when a story is first published in EC, but an EC story is forgotten once it's off the hub.

I'm only like one-third into my "One Night" story and all of the sudden a completely NEW story is clawing at the inside of my skull!? What the fuck!?
