"One Night in XXX” Story Event: Official Support Thread

I ain't yet writ doodly-squat. The scenes are there. The verbal glue ain't. Sniffle.

Kicks butt. Stop sniffling and write!!!!!! Even if it’s a mere 750 words.

One Night in the Slough of Despair. A writer without words, forlorn and alone in a dark and gloomy bar. A sultry seductress (actually she’s a hooker, it’s all a big misunderstanding). A pickup line, a hotel room, a demand for payment and then there’s hell to pay. Go write ‘em, cowboy!

I'm working on mine. I've decided my town will be Belleville. I'm doing a combination of a few local towns, but the main setting they end up in is Belleville.

And I'm still so damn wordy and have just barely even started. It's only 4000 words though...

I'm actually already struggling with mine. I feel maybe the Vilnius one will be too plain, too simple, to make the small city any justice. Instead I've now gotten another idea of a girl returning to a small town in NZ and having a fling with a Maori boy. But do I have the time to write it? *biting nails*

I'll go with "One night in Napa" as San Francisco is already taken. but I'd like to add the subtitle "Dalliance by Design" - is this allowed?

Also do we submit to to ChloeTang by pm or to Literotica submissions?

Thanks electricblue

Literotica submissions, on the date that is somewhere on the first page of the thread, with a Note to the Editor as per instructions (ie: submit as normal, but identity it's a One Night in XXX story) - NOT to Chloe, though).

I'm sure Chloe will repeat the instructions when submissions are due.

Standard Literotica story submission with the text in the note field and a tag. If you go to the post that started off this thread, all the instructions are there. Doing this from my phone so I’m hopeless at anything but straight text. If someone can copy that first post with all the instructions and repost it as a bump, that’d be great. 😘

Here ya' go then.

"One Night in XXX” Story Event: Official Support Thread
I'm posting this thread to officially kick off the "One Night in XXX” Story Event. Laurel will be creating the Event Page shortly - and submissions can be sent in between April 14th and April 21st, with a Tuesday April 23rd Go Live Date. That's NINE WHOLE WEEKS AWAY. Plenty of time!

This thread is to SUPPORT and ENCOURAGE authors to enter stories in the 2019 "One Day in XXX" Story Event. If you have questions, post them here and someone will answer. It might be me, it might be someone else here but don't be shy. Ask.

If you're a first time writer, or this is the first time you're putting a story in to an "Event" on Literotica, hey, don't get stressed about it. You don't have to have written anything before to write for this event. This isn’t a “by invitation only” event. This is not a competition. There's no scores, no prizes.

Just writing for fun with a bunch of other writers doing the same thing. If you're not sure about what to do, how to submit your story, anything at all in fact, just ask here. We've all been there and we're a bunch of very helpful people and we like to pass it on.

So, without further ado, are you interested in writing a story for the “One Night in XXX” Literotica Story Event? Get started! First time writers and veteran Literoticans alike are all invited and encouraged to participate. Post the name of your story here so we can all see it and I'll keep a running list going in this thread.

The Rules are actually really simple
1. The story title has to be “One Night in XXX” where XXX is a city or town.
2. The city or town can be real or fictional, but if it’s fictional it has to be in an existing published book or movie.
3. The whole story, start to finish, has to take place over one night (if you want to clarify that, just ask right here in this thread).
4. Any subject, any category, any length you like.
5. Author must copy and paste the phrase "One Night in XXX Story Event" in the "Notes" field of the submission. We recommend that you COPY & PASTE it into the NOTES field to avoid typos.
6. Please us “One Night in XXX” as a story tag.
7. All entries to be submitted by 11:59pm, Sunday April 21st - with a Go Live Date of Tuesday April 23rd. You can submit any time between April 14th and April 21st. All stories will be posted on Tuesday April 23rd.

That’s it.

So what are you waiting for?! Get started!

Obviously there are more stories now than there were on the starter list.

My story is finally starting to take shape! And luckily, for the most part, it's flowing easily.
I was worried it was going to be too long, but I'm at about 9000 words and it might only be doubled, so not too bad.
I'm kind of fluffing up the town part. I figure since the title has the name of the location that I should add in what the place looks like.

I really felt like the point of writing a story for this event was to not just come up with a good erotic story, but also to try to capture a sense of place. That's something I try to do anyway, so I am enjoying working on my submission. I've nearly finished it, working whenever I need a little getaway from my main series.

I so agree! I think I got a bit distracted trying to get to the 'meat' of the story and lost track of what I was going for.

AND I just realized I wrote about the wrong town, LOL!!!!! Even in my story I talk about how I get the two confused, and well fuck if I didn't get them confused and detailed the place they weren't going to :/
So I'll be doing some editing...or something...crying?

Would it work to change the town to the one you wrote about? I hate both editing and crying enough to consider anything!

I agree. I can't imagine doing a story like this without trying to give the readers that sense of something different. They may have never been there and just to write a one night stroke story out of it all...

Seems to me to sell the event idea short.

Because the deadline was so far in the future after "One Night in Chloe" I had to start something else so I would stop fiddling with Chloe. ;)

So a Sci-Fi adventure will be my second offering entitled "One Night in McMurdo".

Geography fans will understand why.

james

Antarctica, where men are men and penguins are scared.

Now me, I’ve finished One Night in Xanadu and I’m heads down in One Night in Roanapur now and One Night in Arakeen is next. Roanapur is great. I’m rereading all the Black Lagoon books and it’s really fun. I hope there’s a few Black Lagoon fans out there

Well, it depends on which penguins you know.

ElectricBlue is an expert on this subject, I believe.
The allusion, as you well know, Mister Doom, is to incest writers and their abundance; and the need to be very tall to stand out. Unlike Master Oggbashan and his puffin, with his very own rock and a determined dedication to fill a very small niche (or perhaps a crevice, as puffins appear to like cliffs).

These "let me try a different category" plans of yours - are they merely another form of procrastination? I thought we were still waiting for the Valentine's Day offering ;).

For the time being, I'm not taking my story-writing plans too seriously. They seem to go awry more often than not. I hope to get a story done for the on the job event, which is coming up sooner than I'd like, and alarmingly so given my current pace. That will be an exhibitionist story, something I've done already. For the moment I'm just going to write what I like when I can and not get too worked up about plans.

But about those penguins -- you're a lot closer to the Antarctic than I am!

It could, but I'm trying to be really accurate with actual places and the destination for my story is the drive in and the place I wrote about doesn't have a drive in, but the place I meant to write about does.

I live in the midwest in an area of a lot of smallish towns and cities, so we're all lumped together in a way. For some reason I always get two of the places mixed up even though the names are completely different and they're in opposite directions. My main character even mentions how she gets them mixed up. I can't believe I did in the story :D

But I started working on the other place, so I'm headed back in the right direction. It wasn't a huge mistake I had just described the drive to the town and what my first impressions always are when I get there, now I just need to do the same for the actual town, LOL!

I saved the bit about the wrong town, probably use it in another story someday.

Maybe another option is to keep the mix-up of the two places in your story. That sounds completely authentic and it’s interesting and relatable.

Ahhh, drive-ins. I fear we may all be showing our age in this story event. I have a song from the 1960's, hippie girls with flowers in their hair, and a Jimi Hendrix concert. Thus my angst and concern that 90% of Lit readers won't have a clue about what's going on  But drive-ins, now that is probably really going to stump them :D

I'm glad your mistake was so easily corrected though. Now I'll have to read it to see what movie was playing...or if, as was often the case, nobody knew or cared ;)

Almost done with my second. I don't know about doing a third as I have so many other multi-part stories going I need to continue with or finish up.

So I will most likely end up with just the two.

Going to have to pull out of this one, sorry :-( I made a start, but work got in the way, and there's no way I'm going to make the deadline.

San Francisco? Scott McKenzie?

Some guy built the first new drive in I've heard of in decades about 20 miles from where I live. So many memories. I hope it survives.
