Music Arcade
Neil Young

Have you ever been lost
Have you ever been found out
Have you ever felt all alone
At the end of the day
Yeah I'm talkin' bout gettin' down
Take it easy - there's no one around
Just a mirror and you and me
And the TV screen

I was walkin down main street
Not the sidewalk but main street
Dodgin' traffic with flyin' feet
That's how good I felt
Took a spin in the laundromat
Played a game in the music arcade
Kept winnin' while the band played
That's how good I felt

Have you ever been lost
Have you ever been found out
Have you ever felt all alone
At the end of the day
Yeah I'm talkin' bout gettin' down
Take it easy - there's no one around
Just a mirror and you and me
And the TV sky

Have you ever been singled out
By a hungry man
You're listening to the radio
He's washin' your window
When you look in those vacant eyes
How does it harmonize
With the things that you do?
That's how good I felt

Have you ever been lost
Have you ever been found out
Have you ever felt all alone
At the end of the day
Yeah I'm talkin' bout gettin' down
Take it easy - there's no one around
Just a mirror and you and me
And the TV screen

There's a comet in the sky tonight
Makes me feel like I'm alright
I'm movin' prety fast
For my size
I really didn' mean to stay
As long as I have
So I'll be movin' on

Joni Mitchell

I’m traveling in some vehicle
I’m sitting in some cafe
A defector from the petty wars
That shell shock love away
There’s comfort in melancholy
When there’s no need to explain
It’s just as natural as the weather
In this moody sky today
In our possessive coupling
So much could not be expressed
So now I’m returning to myself
These things that you and I suppressed
I see something of myself in everyone
Just at this moment of the world
As snow gathers like bolts of lace
Waltzing on a ballroom girl

You know it never has been easy
Whether you do or you do not resign
Whether you travel the breadth of extremities
Or stick to some straighter line
Now here’s a man and a woman sitting on a rock
They’re either going to thaw out or freeze
Listen...
Strains of benny goodman
Coming thru’ the snow and the pinewood trees
I’m porous with travel fever
But you know I’m so glad to be on my own
Still somehow the slightest touch of a stranger
Can set up trembling in my bones
I know - no one’s going to show me everything
We all come and go unknown
Each so deep and superficial
Between the forceps and the stone

Well I looked at the granite markers
Those tributes to finality - to eternity
And then I looked at myself here
Chicken scratching for my immortality
In the church they light the candles
And the wax rolls down like tears
There’s the hope and the hopelessness
I’ve witnessed thirty years
We’re only particles of change I know, I know
Orbiting around the sun
But how can I have that point of view
When I’m always bound and tied to someone
White flags of winter chimneys
Waving truce against the moon
In the mirrors of a modern bank
from the window of a hotel room

I’m traveling in some vehicle
I’m sitting in some cafe
A defector from the petty wars
Until love sucks me back that way

My Life (1959-Present)
-Marvin Tate

I am a sometimes poet
a genius but in a useless
kind of way
who thinks
and I drink and I bullshit
I bullshit a lot
I am a junkie waiting for
popular culture to hit rock bottom
I am not to be confused
with a role model
I will not be your role model
I am the homeless
a CTA comedian without
bus fare
I am the youngest of five playing the role
of the worried mother and the absent father
I'm in love again but with a pushy bottom
I am an azz lover
a tit lover
a leg lover
a man's man
a woman's man often feeling broke
sucked, suckered and dry
I am a popular nobody
a pot head
a 1990's sex head
I am a serial masturbator
I'd like to give you some head
I learned to sing the blues at age four
unemployed
laid off
walked off
hired and fired
I remember 1969
the nigga with the silver gun
that shot Ophelia and hearing Fahey Flynn
report it on the ten o'clock news
"Mother of six shot 3 times in critical condition
at Cook County Hospital."

I am Marley's soul rebel
always running IN and OUT of other's lives
talking about the mind, the MIND THIS, the MIND THAT
the MIND, the MIND, the MIND, is a terrible thang
to fuck up
I am a creep, a tight black jean wearing faggot,
a leader without any followers
I am the original lonely playboy
campus clown, 1978-1981

I WILL CHEAT YOU!
but I'm an honest loser
I dig Bird, Billie, Baldwin, Bootsy, Baraka,
That's My Mama, Blacula, Bowie, Monk, Huey
J.B., Curtis Mayfield, Pryor, Chaka, Aretha,
Bad Brains, Nina Simone, Sly, Prince,
and the Hues Corporation
I am a Mister know it all
who hasn't been asked
the right question

tonight, I feel like a mamaless boy
tonight, I feel like a papaless boy
I confess, I CUNTFESS, THIS IS A FUCKED UP POEM
I'M Fucked UP for living it and all of you
are FUCKED UP for listening to it ...
I came in last place in a big dick contest
I am the ugly duckling that married the horny whore
I am a cold bastard
a dumb bastard
a super stud
a super pussy with a super hard on
an immature misfit
misunderstood
misinterpreted
mischievous snotty nose brat
a rib eating
steak eating

okra eating

cunt eating snob

I am an UP Town freak
a New Town freak
a freak's freak
I am an AFREAKEN
you have nothing to fear

I am the king
but I've felt like a court jester
a queen
an ace of spade
I am a real card for people who feel sorry for me
I am an inspiration
a stargazer waiting for Sun Ra to make a cameo
on the Star Trek Enterprise
I am the bad/good guy in this endless sitcom
that you call LIFE
I am a self-denying buppie
a yes man
a back-seat man
a skin head, baptized with spit
I am a six foot, one hundred eighty-nine pound
adonis, who cried after watching the movie,
Imitation of Life, for the seventh straight time
I am a Jesus head
sent to jail on d.o.c. assault and battery
and possession of zig zags
I am a human time bomb
procrastinating, to die.

Simon and Garfunkel

Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall

Through the corridors of sleep
Past the shadows dark and deep
My mind dances and leaps in confusion.
I don't know what is real,
I can't touch what I feel
And I hide behind the shield of my illusion.
So I'll continue to continue to pretend
My life will never end,
And flowers never bend
With the rainfall.

The mirror on my wall
Casts an image dark and small
But I'm not sure at all it's my reflection.
I am blinded by the light
Of God and truth and right
And I wander in the night without direction.

So I'll continue to continue to pretend
My life will never end,
And flowers never bend
With the rainfall.

It's no matter if you're born
To play the King or pawn
For the line is thinly drawn 'tween joy and sorrow,
So my fantasy
Becomes reality,
And I must be what I must be and face tomorrow.

So I'll continue to continue to pretend
My life will never end,
And flowers never bend
With the rainfall.

Dire Straits

Brothers In Arms lyrics

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be

Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arm

Through these fields of destruction
Baptism of fire
I've watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher

And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die

But it's written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

Follow You Down
by Gin Blossoms

Did you see the sky, I think it means that we've been lost
Maybe one less time is all we need
I can't really help it if my tongue's all tied in knots
Jumping off a bridge, it's just the farthest that I've ever been

Anywhere you go, I'll follow you down
Anyplace, but those I know by heart
Anywhere you go, I'll follow you down
I'll follow you down, but not that far

I know we're headed somewhere, I can see how far we've come
But still, I can't remember anything
Let's not do the wrong thing and I swear it might be fun
It's a long way down when all the knots we've tied have come undone

Anywhere you go, I'll follow you down
Anyplace, but those I know by heart
Anywhere you go, I'll follow you down
I'll follow you down, but not that far
Whoooo!

How you gonna ever find your place
Runnin' in an artificial pace
Are they gonna find us lying face down in the sand
So what the hell, have we already been forever damned?

Anywhere you go, I'll follow you down
Anyplace, but those I know by heart
Anywhere you go, I'll follow you down
I'll follow you down, but not that far

Anywhere you go, I'll follow you down
Anyplace, but those I know by heart
Anywhere you go, I'll follow you down
I'll follow you down, but not that far (follow you down)
I'll follow you down, but not that far (follow you down)
I'll follow you down, but not that far (follow you down)
I'll follow you down, but not that far (follow you down)

Into Your Arms - Lemonheads

I know a place where I can go when I'm alone
Into your arms whoa into your arms I can go
I know a place that's safe and warm from the crowd
Into your arms whoa into your arms I can go
And if I should fall
I know I won't be alone
Be alone anymore

I know a place where I can go when I'm alone
Into your arms whoa into your arms I can go
I know a place that's safe and warm from the crowd
Into your arms whoa into your arms I can go
So if I should fall
I know I won't be alone
Be alone anymore

I know a place where I can go when I'm alone
Into your arms whoa into your arms I can go
I can go...

Evenin monkey man. :)

Your lyric made me think of one of my favorite Beatles songs. It's early John and so simple, but I love what it says.

There's a Place

There's a place where I can go
When I feel low, when I feel blue
And it's my mind and there's no time
When I'm alone

I think of you and things you do
Go 'round my head, the things you said
Like 'I love only you'

In my mind there's no sorrow
Don't you know that it's so
There'll be no sad tomorrow
Don't you know that it's so

There, there's a place where I can go
When I feel low, when I feel blue
And it's my mind and there's no time
When I'm alone

There's a place.

My Flamingo
The Subterraneans

You can always take my breath away
And you can cut me to the quick
And you can always spike my heart beat
And it accelerates
And we go up face to face

And now I'm making my move
I'm taking over
You gotta stop
And pull back the shade
Stop this elaborate charade
And pull back the camera and fade and become
My flamingo
My flamingo
My flamingo
My flamingo

Now all those glib suspicious playboys
When they see you promenade
They wanna buy you up
But God knows, they could never touch you
I don't even know why they even try or even waste their time

I'm making my move
I'm gonna shut 'em down..all of 'em
You gotta stop and pull back the shades
Stop This elaborate charade
And pull back the camera and fade
and become my flamingo
My flamingo
My flamingo
My flamingo

Lost and found
You will remain there
Forever locked in my mind
In that dark arcade where
We walked through
The clock struck
Our hearts beat as one
And I heard a bell ring
And I'm ringin' it

I waited for you
As though you were my child bride
And I waited for you
In a church with no upstairs
And I held out for you
Like a deaf mute in a phone booth
And I held out for you
When I knew I didn't stand a chance

But think about it I'm making my move
I'm right there on your tail feathers
You gotta stop and pull back the shades
Stop This elaborate charade
Pull back the camera and fade and become my flamingo
My flamingo
My flamingo
My flamingo

Threadbare Gypsy Soul
by Pat Green

Got myself a threadbare gypsy soul
Likes to dance and drink and go wherever the wind blows
Gotta little threadbare gypsy soul
Gotta little threadbare gypsy soul

Gotta little wild streak in my heart
I guess that I have had it since I heard the music start
I gotta little wild streak in my heart
I gotta little threadbare gypsy soul

I like to hear the highway sounds
And I don't think that I'll ever settle down
I can't change and it's a sin
Hope St. Peter gonna let me in
Come on Pete won't you let me in

I wear this cowboy hat up on my head
And you can take it off me some time after I am dead
Gotta cowboy hat up on my head
Gotta a little threadbare gypsy soul

I wear these crusty shoes down on my feet
I could write a book about the places that they've seen
I got these crusty shoes down on my feet
I gotta little wild streak in my heart

And I like to hear the highway sounds
Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever settle down
And I can't change and it's a sin
I hope St. Peter gonna let me in
Come on Pete won't you let me in

I know this crazy living just ain't right
Most of the time I'm smoking, drinking, looking for a fight
But I've been talking to Jesus every day
I've been talking to Jesus every day

And I got this girl back home I call my wife
If you ever met her I swear she would change your life
She's gotta little wild streak in her heart
But she's been saying hallelujah every day

I like to hear the highway sounds
I don't think that I'll ever settle down
I can't change and it might be a sin
Hope St. Peter gonna let me in
Got my gypsy soul to bare, Amen

A song for Adam

SONG FOR ADAM

Though Adam was a friend of mine, I did not know him well
He was alone into his distance
He was deep into his well
I could guess what he was laughing at, but I couldn't really tell
Now the story's told that Adam jumped, but I've been thinking that he fell

Together we went traveling, as we received the call
His destination India, and I had none at all
Well, I still remember laughing with our backs against the wall
So free of fear, we never thought that one of us might fall

I sit before my only candle, but it's so little light to find my way
Now this story unfolds before my candle
Which is shorter every hour as it reaches for the day
But I feel just like a candle in the way
I guess I'll get there, but I wouldn't say for sure

When we parted we were laughing still, as our goodbyes were said
And I never heard from him again as each our lives we led
Except for once in someone else's letter that I read
Until I heard the sudden word that a friend of mine was dead

I sit before my only candle, like a pilgrim sits beside the way
Now this journey appears before my candle
As a song that's growing fainter the harder that I play
But I fear before I end I'll fade away
But I guess I'll get there, though I wouldn't say for sure

Though Adam was a friend of mine, I did not know him long
And when I stood myself beside him, I never though I was as strong
Still it seems he stopped his singing in the middle of his song
Well I'm not the one to say I know, but I'm hoping he was wrong

I'm holding out my only candle, though it's so little light to find my way
Now this story's been laid beneath my candle
And it's shorter every hour as it reaches for the day
Yes, I feel just like a candle in the way
I hope I'll get there, but I never pray

You Got the Silver
Jagger/Richards

Hey babe, what's in your eyes?
I saw them flashing like airplane lights
You fill my cup, babe, that's for sure
I must come back for a little more

You got my heart you got my soul
You got the silver you got the gold
You got the diamonds from the mine
Well that's all right, it'll buy some time

Tell me, honey, what will I do
When I'm hungry and thirsty too
Feeling foolish, and that's for sure
Just waiting here at your kitchen door?

Hey baby, what's in your eyes?
Is that the diamonds from the mine?
What's that laughing in your smile?
I don't care, no, I don't care

Oh babe, you got my soul
You got the silver, you got the gold
It's just your love, just leave me blind
I don't care, no, that's no big surprise

Closing Time

Ah we're drinking and we're dancing
and the band is really happening
and the Johnny Walker wisdom running high
And my very sweet companion
she's the Angel of Compassion
she's rubbing half the world against her thigh
And every drinker every dancer
lifts a happy face to thank her
the fiddler fiddles something so sublime
all the women tear their blouses off
and the men they dance on the polka-dots
and it's partner found, it's partner lost
and it's hell to pay when the fiddler stops:
it's CLOSING TIME
Yeah the women tear their blouses off
and the men they dance on the polka-dots
and it's partner found, it's partner lost
and it's hell to pay when the fiddler stops:
it's CLOSING TIME

Ah we're lonely, we're romantic
and the cider's laced with acid
and the Holy Spirit's crying, "Where's the beef?"
And the moon is swimming naked
and the summer night is fragrant
with a mighty expectation of relief
So we struggle and we stagger
down the snakes and up the ladder
to the tower where the blessed hours chime
and I swear it happened just like this:
a sigh, a cry, a hungry kiss
the Gates of Love they budged an inch
I can't say much has happened since
but CLOSING TIME

I swear it happened just like this:
a sigh, a cry, a hungry kiss
the Gates of Love they budged an inch
I can't say much has happened since
CLOSING TIME

I loved you for your beauty
but that doesn't make a fool of me:
you were in it for your beauty too
and I loved you for your body
there's a voice that sounds like God to me
declaring, declaring, declaring that your body's really you
And I loved you when our love was blessed
and I love you now there's nothing left
but sorrow and a sense of overtime
and I missed you since the place got wrecked
And I just don't care what happens next
looks like freedom but it feels like death
it's something in between, I guess
it's CLOSING TIME

Yeah I missed you since the place got wrecked
By the winds of change and the weeds of sex
looks like freedom but it feels like death
it's something in between, I guess
it's CLOSING TIME

Yeah we're drinking and we're dancing
but there's nothing really happening
and the place is dead as Heaven on a Saturday night
And my very close companion
gets me fumbling gets me laughing
she's a hundred but she's wearing
something tight
and I lift my glass to the Awful Truth
which you can't reveal to the Ears of Youth
except to say it isn't worth a dime
And the whole damn place goes crazy twice
and it's once for the devil and once for Christ
but the Boss don't like these dizzy heights
we're busted in the blinding lights,
busted in the blinding lights
of CLOSING TIME

The whole damn place goes crazy twice
and it's once for the devil and once for Christ
but the Boss don't like these dizzy heights
we're busted in the blinding lights,
busted in the blinding lights
of CLOSING TIME

Oh the women tear their blouses off
and the men they dance on the polka-dots
It's CLOSING TIME
And it's partner found, it's partner lost
and it's hell to pay when the fiddler stops
It's CLOSING TIME
I swear it happened just like this:
a sigh, a cry, a hungry kiss
It's CLOSING TIME
The Gates of Love they budged an inch
I can't say much has happened since
But CLOSING TIME
I loved you when our love was blessed
I love you now there's nothing left
But CLOSING TIME
I miss you since the place got wrecked
By the winds of change and the weeds of sex.

Leonard Cohen

Jesus Thinks You're a Jerk by Frank Zappa

There’s an ugly little weasel ’bout three-foot nine
Face puffed up from cryin’ ’n lyin’
’cause her sweet little hubby’s
Suckin’ prong part time
(in the name of the lord)

Get a clue, little shrew
Oh yeah, oh yeah
Jesus thinks you’re a jerk
Did he really choose Tammy to do his work?

Robertson says that he’s the one
Oh he sure is,
If armageddon
Is your idea of family fun,
An’ he’s got some planned for you!
(now, tell me that ain’t true)

Now, what if Jimbo’s slightly gay,
Will Pat let Jimbo get away?
Everything we’ve heard him say
Indicated that Jim must pay,
(and it just might hurt a bit)
But keep that money rollin’ in,
’cause Pat and naughty Jimbo
Can’t get enough of it

Perhaps it’s their idea
Of an affirmative action plan
To give white trash a ’special break’;
Well, they took those jeezo-bucks and ran
To the bank! to the bank! to the bank! to the bank!
And every night we can hear them thank
Their buddy, up above
For sending down his love
(while you all smell the glove)

Jim and Pat should take a pole
(right up each saintly glory-hole),
With tar and feathers too --
Just like they’d love to do to you

(’cause they think you are bad --
And they are very mad)

’cause some folks don’t want prayer in school!

(we’d need an ark to survive the drool
Of micro-publicans, raised on hate,
And ’jimbo-jumbo’ when they graduate)

Conviced they are ’the chosen ones’ --
And all their parents carry guns,
And hold them cards in the n.r.a.
(with their fingers on the triggers
When they kneel and pray)

With a ku-klux muu-muu
In the back of the truck,
If you ain’t born again,
They wanna mess you up, screamin’:
’no abortion, no-siree!’
’life’s too precious, can’t you see!’
(what’s that hangin’ from the neighbor’s tree?
Why, it looks like ’colored folks’ to me --
Would they do that...seriously? )

What if Pat gets in the white house,
And suddenly --
The rights of ’certain people’ disappear
Mysteriously?

Now, wouldn’t that sort of qualify
As an american tragedy?
(especially if he covers it up, sayin’
Jesus told it to me!

I hope we never see that day,
In the land of the free --
Or someday will we?
Will we?

And if you don’t know by now,
The truth of what I’m tellin’ you,
Then, surely I have failed somehow --

And Jesus will think I’m a jerk, just like you --
If you let those tv preachers
Make a monkey out of you!

I said:
Jesus will think you’re a jerk
And it would be true!

There’s an old rugged cross
In the land of cutton --
It’s still burnin’ on somebody’s lawn
And it still smells rotten

Jim and Tammy!
Oh, baby!
You gotta go!

Working Class Hero
John Lennon

As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all

A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules

A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear

A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see

A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

There's room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill

A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

If you want to be a hero well just follow me
If you want to be a hero well just follow me

Jackson Browne

At the moment the music began
And you heard the guitar player starting to sing
You were filled with the beauty that ran
Through what you were imagining
Dreaming of scenes from those songs of love
I was the endless sky
And you were my mexican dove

Now the music that played in your ears
Grows a little bit fainter each day
And you find yourself looking through tears
At the love you feel slipping away
Though it's not the kind
Of love you might hope to find
If tears could release the heart
From the shadows preferred by the mind

Like a wind that comes up in the night
Caressing your face while you sleep
Love will fill your eyes with the sight
Of a world you can't hope to keep
Dreaming on after that moment's gone
The light in your lover's eyes
Disappears with the light of the dawn

But the morning brings
Strength to your restless wings
And some other lover sings
To the sun's bright corona
I know all about these things

Sugar Magnolia

If you were sothern..this would be you..

The Dead

Sugar Magnolia blossom's blooming
Head's all empty and I don't care
Saw my baby down by the river
Knew she'd have to come up soon for air

Sweet blossom come on under the willow
We can have high times if you'll abide
We can discover the wonders of nature
Rolling in the rushes down by the riverside

She's got everything delightful
She's got everything I need
Takes the wheel when I'm seeing double
Pays my ticket when I speed

She come skimming through rays of violet
She can wade in a drop of dew
She don't come and I don't follow
Waits backstage while I sing to you

She can dance a Cajun rhythm
Jump like a Willys in four wheel drive
She's a summer love in the spring, fall and winter
She can make happy any man alive

Sugar magnolia
Ringin' that blue bell
Caught up in sunlight
Come on out singing
I'll walk you in the sunshine
Come on honey, come along with me

She's got everything delightful
She's got everything I need
A breeze in the pines in the summer night moonlight
Crazy in the sunlight yes indeed

Sometimes when the cuckoo's crying
When the moon is halfway down
Sometimes when the night is dying
I take me out and I wander round
I wander round

Sunshine daydream
Walkin through the tall trees
Going where the wind goes
Blooming like a red rose
Breathing more freely
Light out singing
I'll walk you in the morning sunshine
Sunshine daydream
Walk you in the sunshine

I was listening to the American Beauty cd yesterday. Box of Rain is such a beautiful lyric, it made me get all teary. And I lovvvve Sugar Magnolia--I wrote a poem about that song. I really did. I'll have to find it--I think it's on the other computer--I'll send it to you.

Aw heck--I'm gonna go get the Box of Rain lyric. I actually thought of you when I got my current sig line anyway.

Box of Rain
Robert Hunter

Look out of any window
any morning, any evening, any day
Maybe the sun is shining
birds are winging or
rain is falling from a heavy sky.

What do you want me to do,
to do for you to see you through?
For this is all a dream we dreamed
one afternoon long ago.

Walk out of any doorway
feel your way, feel your way
like the day before
Maybe you'll find direction
around some corner
where it's been waiting to meet you.

What do you want me to do,
to watch for you while you're sleeping?
Well please don't be surprised
when you find me dreaming too.

Look into any eyes
you find by you, you can see
clear through to another day
I know it's been seen before
through other eyes on other days
while going home.

What do you want me to do,
to do for you to see you through?
It's all a dream we dreamed
one afternoon long ago

Walk into splintered sunlight
Inch your way through dead dreams
to another land.
Maybe you're tired and broken,
Your tongue is twisted
with words half spoken
and thoughts unclear.

What do you want me to do
to do for you to see you through?
A box of rain will ease the pain,
and love will see you through.

Just a box of rain
wind and water.
Believe it if you need it,
if you don't just pass it on.
Sun and shower,
Wind and rain,
in and out the window
like a moth before a flame.

It's just a box of rain,
I don't know who put it there.
Believe it if you need it
or leave it if you dare,
But it's just a box of rain
or a ribbon for your hair.

Such a long long time to be gone
and a short time to be there.
