Poetry and Lyrics

Vaya con Dios

Now the hacienda's dark the town is sleeping
Now the time has come to part the time for weeping
Vaya con dios my darling, vaya con dios my love
Now the village mission bells are softly ringing
If you listen with your heart you'll hear them singing
Vaya con dios my darling may God be with you my love.

Wherever you may be I'll be beside you
Although you're many million dreams away
Each night I'll say a prayer, a prayer to guide you
To help you spend the lonely hour of every lonely day.

Now the dawn is breaking through a gray tomorrow
But the memories we share are there to borrow
Vaya con dios my darling, may God be with you my love
(Vaya con dios my darling) may God be with you my love...

I Know Your Fucking Someone Else

Well This is a song from Type 0 Negative a Band I think is awsome, so I hope you like!! :nana:

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Out of sight out of mind - the motto of betrayal
the prophets preach to forgive and forget - i'm sorry but i am
unable

And dont think i dont know what you're doing you stupid twat

You went to L'amour saturday night - red nails and lipstick
dressed two sizes two tight
his tongue down your throat - his hand up your skirt
yeah I'm a man - but it still hurts

Slut - whore - cunt

I know you're fucking someone else
he knows you're fucking someone else
i know you're fucking someone else
he knows you're fucking someone else

You had cunt on your mind - and cum on your breath
inserted that diaphragm before you left - practicing freelance
gynecology
where there's a womb there's a way - with you it's for free

Slut - you fucking whore - whore - youre a cunt - cunt

I know you're fucking someone else
he knows you're fucking someone else
i know you're fucking someone else
he knows you're fucking someone else

Done it before - time after time - refused to learn your lesson
gave 'til it hurt - thought it was right - only fools make
mistakes twice

So you sit home - drinking alone - empty bottle in your hand
don't even try - to sort out the lies - it's worse to try to
understand

You - you make me hate myself

The Lucky One

You're the lucky one
So i've been told
As free as the wind,
Blowin' down the road
Loved by many, hated by none
I'd say you're lucky 'cause I know what you've done
Not a care in the world
Not a worry in sight
Everything's gunna be alright
Cause you're the lucky one

You're the lucky one
Always havin' fun
A jack of all trades a master none
You look at the world with a smilin' eye
And laugh at the devil as his train goes by
Give you a song and a one night stand
And you'll be looking at a happy man
'cause you're the lucky one.

Well you're blessed i guess
By never knowing which road your choosin.
To you the next best thing
To playin and winning is playin and losing
You're the lucky one i know that now
Don't ask you why, when, where, or how
You look at the world thru your smilin' eye
And laugh at the devil as his train goes by
Give you a song and a one night stand
And you'll be looking at a happy man
'cause you're the lucky one

Well you're blessed i guess
By never knowing which road your choosin.
To you the next best thing
To playin and winning is playin and losing

You're the lucky one i know that now
Don't ask you why, when, where, or how
No matter where you're at, it's where you'll be
You can bet your luck won't follow me
Just give you a song and a one night stand
And you'll be looking at a happy man
Cause you're the lucky one.

Well you're blessed i guess
By never knowing which road your choosin.
To you the next best thing

UpperCut » Artists A » ALISON KRAUSS » Ghost in This House

I don't pick up the mail,
I don't pick up the phone,
I don't answer the door,
I just soon be alone
I don't keep this place up,
I just keep the lights down,
I don't live in these rooms,
I'm just rattled around

I'm just a ghost in this house,
I'm just a shadow upon these walls,
As quietly as a mouse,
I haunt these halls,
I'm just a whisper of smoke,
I'm all that's left of two hearts on fire,
That once burned out of control,
You took my body and soul,
I'm just a ghost in this house

I don't care if it rains,
I don't care if it's clear,
I don't mind stayin near,
There's another ghost here,
He sits down in your chair,
And he shines with your light,
And he lays down his head,
On your pillow at night

I'm just a ghost in this house,
I'm just a shadow upon these walls,
I'm living proof of the damage heartbreak does,
I'm just a whisper of smoke,
I'm all that's left of two hearts on fire,
That once burned out of control,
You took my body and soul,
I'm just a ghost in this house

That once burned out of control,
You took my body and soul,
I'm just a ghost in this house

I Believe

Old man Wrigley lived in that white house
Down the street where I grew up
Momma used to send me over with things
We struck a freindship up
I spent a few long summers out on his old porch swing.

Says he was in the war when in the navy
Lost his wife, lost his baby
Broke down and asked him one time
How ya keep from going crazy
He said I'll see my wife and son in just a little while
I asked him what he meant
He looked at me and smiled, said.

Chorus:
I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what I can see
Oh, I believe.

Few years later I was off at college
Talkin' to mom on the phone one night
Getting all caught up on the gossip
The ins and outs of the small town life
She said, oh by the way son, old man Wrigley's died.

Later on that night, I laid there thinkin' back
Thought 'bout a couple long-lost summers
I didn't know whether to cry or laugh
If there was ever anybody deserved a ticket to the other side
It'd be that sweet old man who looked me in the eye, said.

Chorus:
I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what I can see

I can't quote the book
The chapter or the verse
You can't tell me it all ends
In a slow ride in a hearse
You know I'm more and more convinced
The longer that I live
Yeah, this can't be
No, this can't be
No, this can't be all there is.

Chorus
When I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see
I believe.
Oh, I
I believe.

I believe.
I believe.
I believe.

"I've Loved Her So Long"

She's a victim of her senses
Do you know her?
Can you see her in the distance
As she tumbles by?
Veteran of a race
that should be over
Can you hear her sigh?
With wings to fly
She rolls along
Doing it wrong.

Oh, I've loved her so long
Oh, I've loved her so long
There's a place that I know
We could go
get away for a while
I can bring her the peace
That she needs
Give her reason to smile.

Oh, I've loved her so long

and another

"I've Been Waiting For You"

I've been looking
for a woman
to save my life
Not to beg or to borrow
A woman with
the feeling of
losing once or twice
Who knows how
could it be tomorrow?

I've been waiting for you
And you've been coming to me
For such a long time now
Such a long time now.

I've been waiting for you
And you've been coming to me
For such a long time now
Such a long time now.

I Believe In You
Bob Dylan

They ask me how I feel
And if my love is real
And how I know I'll make it through.
And they, they look at me and frown,
They'd like to drive me from this town,
They don't want me around
'Cause I believe in you.

They show me to the door,
They say don't come back no more
'Cause I don't be like they'd like me to,
And I walk out on my own
A thousand miles from home
But I don't feel alone
'Cause I believe in you.

I believe in you even through the tears and the laughter,
I believe in you even though we be apart.
I believe in you even on the morning after.
Oh, when the dawn is nearing
Oh, when the night is disappearing
Oh, this feeling is still here in my heart.

Don't let me drift too far,
Keep me where you are
Where I will always be renewed.
And that which you've given me today
Is worth more than I could pay
And no matter what they say
I believe in you.

I believe in you when winter turn to summer,
I believe in you when white turn to black,
I believe in you even though I be outnumbered.
Oh, though the earth may shake me
Oh, though my friends forsake me
Oh, even that couldn't make me go back.

Don't let me change my heart,
Keep me set apart
From all the plans they do pursue.
And I, I don't mind the pain
Don't mind the driving rain
I know I will sustain
'Cause I believe in you.

Bluebird
By Butch Hancock

If you were a bluebird

you'd be a sad one

I'd give you a true word

But you've already had one

If you were a bluebird,

you'd be crying

You'd be flying home

If you were a raindrop,

You'd shine like a rainbow

And if you were a train stop,

The conductor would sing low

If you were a raindrop,

You'd be falling

You'd be calling home

If you were a hotel honey

You'd be a grand one

But, if you hit a slow spell,

Do you think you could stand one

If you were a hotel,

Well I'd lean on your doorbell

I'd call you my home

If I was a highway,

I'd stretch alongside you

I'd help you pass byways

that had dissatisfied you

If I was a highway,

well I'd be stretchin

I'd be fetchin you home

George Harrison

Isn't It a Pity

Isn't it a pity
Now, isn't it a shame
How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain
How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity

Some things take so long
But how do I explain
When not too many people
Can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity

Isn't it a pity
Isn't is a shame
How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain
How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity

Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity
Forgetting to give back
Now, isn't it a pity

(6 times, fade the 6th:)
What a pity
What a pity, pity, pity
What a pity
What a pity, pity, pity

A New England Lyrics

Artist: Billy Bragg

I was twenty one years when I wrote this song
I'm twenty two now, but I won't be for long
People ask when will you grow up to be a man
But all the girls I loved at school
are already pushing prams

I loved you then as I love you still
Tho I put you on a pedestal,
They put you on the pill
I don't feel bad about letting you go
I just feel sad about letting you know

I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
I'm just looking for another girl
I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
I'm just looking for another girl

I loved the words you wrote to me
But that was bloody yesterday
I can't survive on what you send
Every time you need a friend

I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them but they were only satellites
Is it wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care

I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
I'm just looking for another girl

Eat Y`self Fitter

I'm in the furniture trade
Got a new job today
I'll stick the cretin
On the number-three lathe
Went down the town
To a HM club
Sign of the cross
A couple well-dressed
They looked at my coat
They looked at my hair
An Easy Rider coot
Grabbed the edge of my coat
Said: 'You're too smart for here'
I said: 'I'll see the manager'
He was the manager
Eat y'self fitter
Up the stairs mister
Eat y'self fitter

Analytics have got
My type worked out
Analytics on me
The poison render
I grope about
And when I go out
My mind splits
My eyes doth hurt
The musical chairs
Have been swallowed up
By a cuddly group
Who land and rub off
Hoping that
Whatever it is
Will land and drop off
I met a hero of mine
I shook his hand
Trapped in the door
Felt a fool, I tell ya
Charmed to meet ya
Eat y'self fitter
Up the stairs mister
Eat y'self fitter

Became a recluse
And bought a computer
Set it up in the home
Elusive big one
On the screen
Saw the Holy Ghost, I swear
On the screen
Where's the cursor?
Where's the eraser?
Where's the cursor?
Where's the eraser?
G-O-H-O-H-O-I-O
G-O-H-O-H-O-I-O
G-O-H-O-H-O-I-O
H-O-I-O-G-O-H-O
What's a computer?
Eat y'self fitter
What's a computer?
Eat y'self fitter

Eat y'self fitter
Eat y'self fitter?
Eat y'self fitter
Who tells you what
To tape on your vid. shit
How do you know the progs you miss
Are worse than those you single out?
And what'll you do when the rental's up?
And your bottom rack is full of vids
Of programs you will ne'er look at
The way they act is, oh, sheer delight
Cardboard copyright
Make it right
Panic in Sudan
Panic in Wardour
Panic in Granadaland
Panic all over
By the wretched times, Jesus
Of my delight
One starry night
The powers that be will have to meet
And have no choice but to...
Eat each other
Eat y'self fitter
Eat each other?
Eat y'self fitter
(Eat y'self fitter)
Properly and with good grace
The secret straight-back ogre entered
His brain a flame
With all the dreams
It had conjured X3
It had conjured a victim
Don't wanna be a victim X4
The centimeter square
Eat y'self fitter
Said it purged fear
Eat y'self fitter

I Don't Like Mondays
Boomtown Rats

The silicon chip inside her head
Gets switched to overload.
And nobody's gonna go to school today,
She's going to make them stay at home.
And daddy doesn't understand it,
He always said she was as good as gold.
And he can see no reason
'Cause there are no reasons
What reason do you need to be shown?

Tell me why?
I don't like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don't like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don't like Mondays.
I want to shoot
The whole day down.

The telex machine is kept so clean
As it types to a waiting world.
And mother feels so shocked,
Father's world is rocked,
And their thoughts turn to
Their own little girl.
Sweet 16 ain't so peachy keen,
No, it ain't so neat to admit defeat.
They can see no reasons
'Cause there are no reasons
What reason do you need to be shown?

Tell me why?
I don't like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don't like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don't like Mondays.
I want to shoot
The whole day down.

All the playing's stopped in the playground now
She wants to play with her toys a while.
And school's out early and soon we'll be learning
And the lesson today is how to die.
And then the bullhorn crackles,
And the captain crackles,
With the problems and the how's and why's.
And he can see no reasons
'Cause there are no reasons
What reason do you need to die?

Tell me why?
I don't like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don't like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don't like Mondays.
I want to shoot
The whole day down.

Poetry is many things to everyone. Some use words to paint, some use words to make you feel. This thread is about songs that do both ... in honor of the Christmas season I give you one of my fav. Christmas songs. Yes, a bit sad and soooo tellling. But ... nonetheless it is still poetry using language and feelings to paint the picture that resonates deep and leaves one feeling ...

Lyrics for Album: Other Songs

Hey, maybe I'll dye my hair
Maybe I'll move somewhere
Maybe I'll get a car
Maybe I'll drive so far
They'll all lose track
Me, I'll bounce right back

Maybe I'll sleep real late
Maybe I'll lose some weight
Maybe I'll clear my junk
Maybe I'll just get drunk on apple wine
Me, I'll be just

Fine and Dandy
Lord it's like a hard candy christmas
I'm barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won't let
Sorrow bring me way down

I'll be fine and dandy
Lord it's like a hard candy christmas
I'm barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won't let
Sorrow get me way down

Hey, maybe I'll learn to sew
Maybe I'll just lie low
Maybe I'll hit the bars
Maybe I'll count the stars until dawn
Me, I will go on

Maybe I'll settle down
Maybe I'll just leave town
Maybe I'll have some fun
Maybe I'll meet someone
And make him mine
Me, I'll be just

Fine and dandy
Lord it's like a hard candy christmas
I'm barely getting throung tomorrow
But still I won't let
Sorrow bring me way down

I'll be fine and dandy
Lord it's like a hard candy christmas
I'm barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won't let
Sorrow bring me way down

I'll be fine and dandy
Lord it's like a hard candy christmas
I'm barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won't let
Sorrow bring me way down

'Cause I'll be fine
(I'll be fine)
Oh, I'll be fine

New York is impossibly handsome
impossibly bright
but his hands are too busy
his shirts are too shiny and tight
on Fridays he dances to metronomes
so he can keep counting
all night all night all night

every time that I see her
my heart ends up begging to stay
she’s been calling me to her
she tortures me every day

have you been on a joyride
say your best backslide
then rocked all night
till you’re trembling and sore?

please take me in your scented arms
New Orleans, I’m coming for more
oh, New Orleans I’m coming for more

i know angels can lie
if it lightens your load
they’ll be stroking your cheek
but they’re speaking in code
they’ll take all your money
and then hit the road
and leave you broken and smiling

he has no use for me
he never looks in my eyes
I’ve been waking in panic
it’s no way to live or to die
I’ve nothing of value to bring you
I come to you wasted and poor

please take me in your scented arms
New Orleans, I’m coming for more
oh, New Orleans I’m coming for more

in the rush and the spin
in the flush of my sin
she’ll be rolling her eyes
while she beckons me in
god, let me love truly
forgive every nation
and walk like a woman again

baby, I love you
but baby, I just have to go
I’ve got so much to learn
she’s got secrets I just have to know

I left my true love for you
Oh, just take everything
I’ll do what you want me to do

please take me in your scented arms
New Orleans, I’m coming for you
oh, New Orleans I’m coming for you

Christmas In Prison
©John Prine

It was Christmas in prison
and the food was real good
we had turkey and pistols
carved out of wood
and I dream of her always
even when I don't dream
her name's on my tongue
and her blood's in my stream.

Chorus:
Wait awhile eternity
old mother nature's got nothing on me
come to me
run to me
come to me, now
we're rolling
my sweetheart
we're flowing
by God!

She reminds me of a chess game
with someone I admire
or a picnic in the rain
after a prairie fire
her heart is as big
as this whole goddamn jail
and she's sweeter than saccharine
at a drug store sale.

Chorus:

The search light in the big yard
swings round with the gun
and spotlights the snowflakes
like the dust in the sun
it's Christmas in prison
there'll be music tonight
I'll probably get homesick
I love you. Goodnight.

Chorus:

More Prine

may I preface this by saying I love John Prine. He can be humorous in the face of despair. He makes me smile while making me cry. He is bittersweet, but honest. I think this song is one of mmy favorites, mixing in all the elements which attract me to him.

All The Best
©John Prine

I wish you love
And happiness
I guess I wish you
All the best
I wish you don't
Do like I do
And ever fall in love with
Someone like you
Cause if you fell
Just like I did
You'd probably walk around the block
Like a little kid.
But kids don't know
They can only guess
How hard it is
To wish you happiness

I guess that love
Is like a Christmas card
You decorate a tree
You throw it in the yard
It decays and dies
And the snowmen melt
Well I once knew love
I knew how love felt
Yeah I knew love
Love knew me
And when I walked
Love walked with me
And I got no hate
And I got no pride
Well I got so much love
That I cannot hide

Say you drive a Chevy
Say you drive a Ford
You say you drive around the town
Till you just get bored
Then you change your mind
For something else to do
And your heart gets bored with your mind
And it changes you
Well it's a doggone shame
And it's an awful mess
I wish you love
I wish you happiness
I wish you love
I wish you happiness
I guess I wish you
All the best

How I feel about my daughters...

What Child is this who, laid to rest
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?

This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christians, fear, for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.

Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you.
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,
Come peasant, king to own Him;
The King of kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.

Raise, raise a song on high,
The virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy, joy for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

We are all children....I wish all of you hope, joy peace and love this holiday season... :rose:

It ain't me babe

Go 'way from my window,
Leave at your own chosen speed.
I'm not the one you want, babe,
I'm not the one you need.
You say you're lookin' for someone
Never weak but always strong,
To protect you an' defend you
Whether you are right or wrong,
Someone to open each and every door,
But it ain't me, babe,
No, no, no, it ain't me, babe,
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe.

Go lightly from the ledge, babe,
Go lightly on the ground.
I'm not the one you want, babe,
I will only let you down.
You say you're lookin' for someone
Who will promise never to part,
Someone to close his eyes for you,
Someone to close his heart,
Someone who will die for you an' more,
But it ain't me, babe,
No, no, no, it ain't me, babe,
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe.

Go melt back into the night, babe,
Everything inside is made of stone.
There's nothing in here moving
An' anyway I'm not alone.
You say you're looking for someone
Who'll pick you up each time you fall,
To gather flowers constantly
An' to come each time you call,
A lover for your life an' nothing more,
But it ain't me, babe,
No, no, no, it ain't me, babe,
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe.

Come Away With Me

Come away with me in the night
Come away with me
And I will write you a song

Come away with me on a bus
Come away where they can't tempt us
With their lies

I want to walk with you
On a cloudy day
In fields where the yellow grass grows knee-high
So won't you try to come

Come away with me and we'll kiss
On a mountaintop
Come away with me
And I'll never stop loving you

And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night
Come away with me

You guys are all waaay too cool, I love it...

How about...

BIG LOVE

by Lindsey Buckingham

Looking out for love
In the night so still
Oh I'll build you a kingdom
In that house on the hill
Looking out for love
Big, big love

You said that you love me
And that you always will
Oh you begged me to keep you
In that house on the hill
Looking out for love
Big, big love

I wake up alone
With it all
I wake up
But only to fall
Looking out for love
Big, big love
Just looking out for love
Big, big love

Death Cab for Cutie's "I Will Follow You Into the Dark"

Love of mine some day you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you
into the dark

No blinding light
or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If heaven and hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's
on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you
into the dark

In Catholic school
as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised
by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me
"Son, fear is the heart of love"
So I never went back

If heaven and hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's
on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you
into the dark

You and me have seen
everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes
are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
It's nothing to cry about
Cause we'll hold each other soon
The blackest of rooms

If heaven and hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's
on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you
into the dark
Then I'll follow you
into the dark

Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin
Available on the album Elton John

It's a little bit funny this feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a travelling show
I know it's not much but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one's for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well a few of the verses well they've got me quite cross
But the sun's been quite kind while I wrote this song
It's for people like you that keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen
