Poets' Corner - got a gripe? Air it here

okay, Senna, have at it

Right. And talking about "hard-ons" and spilling "shit" in their posts is fine with you, you hypocrite.

(Edit: was hipocrite - butters is both).

neither hip nor hyp
my crits are tailored to a finer point

i didn't say tsotha (and others) have not been rude in their postings. he has been, at times, and has also acknowledged this. YOU, on the other hand, always fail to acknowledge your rudeness towards others, your deliberate manifestations of misinterpretation in order to claim victimisation, and sly pokes that are simply mean if intelligently constructed.

i have no problem with truth, or with poets playing with words to stir pots and minds. i do have a problem with those who spread the mud for others to step into yet claim their own shoes must remain clean.

You talk a lot about yourself. Your professed kindness is only skin-deep while your hypocrisy is profound.
if you believe i am a hypocrite, kindly provide examples and i'll see if i have been. as things stand, i do not believe this to be a truth. since you are accusing me of it, provide evidence.

we can all learn from eachother, even from asshats - though asshats don't feel they can learn anything from us.

Not if you ignore their quacking.

Perhaps then they'll stop acting like a ducks.

Blind to your own? Really the most disagreeable person I've ever encountered. How could anyone stand up for it?

Aside from the Oscar award winning Best Drama Queen Performance based on the way he overeacted to Pelegrino's replies.

Oh my how dare you oh my how could you oh my

My gripe is I want to knock a few heads together but it's considered non PC and doesn't comply with Elf and Safety

Now, that's an angry lady!

Come friendly peanuts fall on Slough,
So every nun can brake a vow,
Let all our poems end in "wow!"
Come friendly peanuts, show us how.

lol poor John Betjeman will turn in his grave!

Well, if one is consistently an asshat, then one really isn't worth the time no matter how edumacated and skilled at writing he or she is.

That was what I said, actually — "Your labyrinth of hostility isn't worth navigating to get to whatever knowledge you may or may not have".

What I shouldn't have done — and what makes people think that I'm "goading Senna Jawa over and over again" — was say that one of his reduced poems was bad. He replied by calling me an idiot, and from there, it went downhill. As you can imagine, I insulted him liberally, and he insulted me back, again. Not a pretty sight.

I actually regret doing that. However, I did it because I felt angry that Senna Jawa is allowed to go into other people's threads, insult them, and walk away without so much as a reprimand from our moderators. As butters has pointed out, this rule does not apply to Senna Jawa:

5. Do not threaten other users. Treat other users respectfully and do your best to make the poetry forum a supportive and welcoming place for everyone. Do not harass or belittle other users because they don't agree with you. Posts or threads that berate others may be moved at the moderators' discretion.

Careful, Harry — you're "goading" Senna Jawa. No matter that your message is a reaction to his insults.

Well, you seem to be more of a gentleman and a scholar than I am. :)

I also tend to write long messages to people who I know aren't even going to read them. That says something about how smart I am. :(

I learned a long time ago - especially in regards to topics about politics and religion - to keep it short and sweet.

It all seems important in the heat of the moment, but in the end, its just a bunch Ones and Zeros that will eventually be deleted whenever the website owner calls it quits.

the main difference between some 'educated' people and others, Tso, is that there are those who give freely what they hope might help, encourage and inspire others without trying to force feed it - whilst the remainder cling like misers to their hoarded wealth, afraid that giving any away will reduce their pile and so lower their lofty, self-appointed status above us, the hoi-poloi. This second type might drip-feed tid-bits but not for the good of those being drip-fed - but only to consoildate their own 'reputation' of being scholarly. The first, though they might not see obvious returns for some time, will earn great interest on their selfless investment in seeing the growth in others.

Man...doncha hate when you're posting when tired and accidentally preview something and then move on, thinking you submitted it...*sigh* :(

Poetnado

I would like to answer a few questions that came up and then I'm gonna work on a poem.

1. I am not Senna Jawa's guardian angel. It's true we have known each other for years and I consider him a friend. I may ignore stuff that he says that seems to outrage other people probably because I'm more habituated to him than many of you. That's not an excuse, folks. I've known him for at least twelve years now--one gets used to people. On the other hand, Senna and I have had some epic battles in the past, mainly with me going off on him because I thought he said something horrible to someone. So I do understand and this is why I tell people to use ignore. And if you won't do that then fight your own battles in a way that gives some space to those who just want to write.

2. I do not like to publicly beat up on people. It's humiliating and unfair imo. This has gotten me onto trouble here before because I really don't like to snark or dig at people. But wait you say: what about 1201, Angeline? You were horrible to him. Yep, I was pretty frustrated with him for a while there and because he was not (at least then) accepting private messages, I could only communicate with him by posting on the forum--maybe I could have emailed him via Lit, but I didn't think of it at the time. So yeah I was frustrated and said things I should have said more diplomatically and would have preferred to say in private. I have known 1201 since at least 2005 and though he makes me crazy at times, of course I like him. He is part of the family here.

3. Now let's talk about moving posts or threads (and I am sorry Magnetron but there ain't no ban hammer: I have no authority to ban anyone). I hate to move posts or threads. Hate it. So why did I do it? As I said, I want to maintain some balance on these two forums between poetry writing threads and poetry discussion threads. And yes, I get that some people like to do both in the same thread and we do have that option, too. Normally having a mix of discussion and writing threads in the same forum is not an issue. However when a single person comes on the forum and starts numerous discussion threads per day on the main forum, the writing threads all get bumped down. If we could just be more considerate of each other this would not be an issue.

As far as deleting stuff because of content, well Tzara I will give you that one. It's too much of a gray area for me to make objective decisions some of the time. Tsotha, deleting your v1 and v2 was not meant to be discourteous but to be clear about not posting content from a pm. That's a big no-no at Lit and it does get people banned.

I have tried to make what I've thought were the right decisions at the time. Obviously sometimes I screw up. For what it's worth when I recognize that, I have remorse. But to me the bottom line is that if we ignore selectively and save our "fuck yous" for our friends who don't care when we say it, we should be fine. I am not saying I will never move anything again, but I will try not to, and to limit it to spam and stuff like the outing of personal info. I am one person and that is the best I can do. And if you value this place as I do--because why else would I stay at this point?--you will try to be reasonable and remember that overall it's about poetry. This is not and will never be the GB.

That's all I got. Except this:

Piss off: I'm workin for Mel Brooks.

Someone has one around here somewhere, I know that from personal experience.

I'm not saying people don't get banned. I'm saying they don't get banned by moderators on the forums.

I'll just keep peeking under skirts and looking in pantries until I find it.

And when I do ..... well, let's just say it will involve me licking it and riding a wrecking ball in my birthday suit.
