poll: favorite musical act?

i was gonna say something too, ed, but figured i'd let it soak a while.

personally, i think that music is just supposed to be fun and nourish the right side of your brain. if it does that, who cares what form its in, right?

i should point out, however, that i will judge a person's musical taste in ONE situation... people who listen to country music (the real shit or the modern, pop versions of it) are on my list... not because of the music but because it's a marker for other personality traits that will likely combine to indicate a rabid redneck.

wow nice open mind...country = redneck..

what's the matter did you get anally raped by a big ol' mountain man??

EJ: i'm not gonna talk smack about someone else's tastes in music, and i'm less certain about assumptions re: country. i've known more people who like country music but belong in a blue state than don't IRL. :>

Aww, man. Patsy Cline's a pretty close second to Fleetwood Mac for me.

*cries*

thank you sir. may i have another?

Oh crap! I'm late again, so many tastes, rock, classical, instrumental, at the moment it's all about the voice, I like big strong voices or unusual ones (Kate Bush, John Farnham)etc.
My first love, Suzi Quatro.

kate bush, eh? what did you think of siouxsie and the banshees?

Err, never heard of it but if you humm a few bars...

If you give me a few titles I'll see what I can find.

Some more.
Sam Brown, Kate Ceberano, Tina Arena, Merril Bainbridge, Heart, Human League, Transvision Vamp and lately Beth Hart.

Ok i'm almost afraid to say it...but i like country.....but i am not a red neck!!!!

I'm mostly a 70's/early 80's classic rock guy but if I had to pick just one it would be a band that came out of cali in the early 90's called dada.

I dunno how to label them...in record stores they were usually in the alternative section and the only radio station I really heard them on was the local college station, but they're not really what I think of when I think of "alternative". power pop, maybe? what really caught my ear about them was the harmonies and the guitar playing, so the way I usually describe them is like the beatles with jimi hendrix on guitar. if you ever get a chance to catch them live I highly recommend it.

quoll: if you wanna know more about her/them, try here. you've probably heard a few tunes (peekaboo, for instance).

She dressed like a '30s "clapper".

They did a song called "Peek-a-boo" (I think that that's the title of it)... That's the only song by them that I can remember... Because "Beavis and Butthead" made fun of the song on their show...

quoll: if you like the big vocals, visionskate mentioned joy division, which might also be your cuppa. given what i can glean of your tastes, they might appeal. joy division is the band that eventually produced new order after joy division's lead singer, ian curtis, committed suicide.

i've also always been a fan of nathalie merchant, formerly of 10,000 maniacs, but that might be a bit too sedate for you.

i don't have any other suggestions: heck, i don't know half the bands you're talking about!
