Having had lots of the sex (yay!) and none of the marriage (cringe!) I would have to say knowing ahead of time is the way to go.

I shudder at the thought of one of the hunks I took for a test drive. I almost bought that lemon as is before finding out the shocks were shot, the frame was bent, and there was serious catch in the tranny between third and fourth......
