I feel compelled to add this:

At 56, my mom puts a lot of effort into staying young. She works out, refuses to allow the grays to show, won't retire, etc.

A few years ago when the AARP membership offers started showing up, she was a little shocked and insulted. Then she read the letter, and upon seeing she would get discounts with membership, she proudly declared herself a senior citizen.

That was my thought exactly Erika...give me a discount on travel and I"m . Unfortunately don't get those invites to AARP here.

As for aging...guess I'm a back to basics kind of gal....sure beats the alternative...and most days I still feel 35....or is that my mental versus physical age.

This is my bottom line. However creaky and stiff (not in a good way ) it will always be better than the alternative.
