Re: Edit the work of other Authors

I thought she was insane at the time when she advised me to have a go at editing. But KillerMuffin was right, it's the one area I've learned the most about writing. Thank you KM.

As a corollary to that, get someone friendly to edit for you. It helps. God bless WSO's little cotton socks btw.

TheEarl, I'm beginning to think you have a sock fetish as well as a funny hat fetish. ;) Just glad to be of help dear. :)

I don't know how to say this in one pithy sentence but one 'trick' I was informed of was in a word, re-introduction.

If you mention that the ornate pepper-mill stood on the counter make it there for a reason. Use it later on. (In the obvious fashion or otherwise)

I read a story here (can never remember names or titles) where a cucumber is used in an obviously erotic manner. Much later as the male protagonist was leaving he accidentally knocked the same (used) vegetable off the side table. Very effective.

But use this 'device' sparingly, once per story is quite enough.

I like this one, Gauche. I think it also applies to descriptive narrative in general, though -- if you're going to describe something, you should have a reason for doing so. Don't describe just for the sake of filling out the story -- make every description count, either as a plot device or as a way of making the story unusual and original.

If I were a better writer I could provide an example. My examples are always kind of stupid, though...

Reintroduction

I've noticed that, in most stories, if mention is made of a gigantic dildo covered with loose cat hair sitting on the mantel, it ends up being important later.

Have Fun

Have fun with your story; enjoy it. If you can enjoy your story, enjoy finding out about your characters and what happens to them and how, then maybe someone else can.

Hi all; I'm sorry to say that I have a big problem. I told a friend about the site and my stories on it. Now she has accused me of sexual harrassment. I need to delete my stories and my identity FAST. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to do this? Surely it is possible to do? Please send me an email at zachary_141@hotmail.com as soon as possible.

From which we learn: Always use fictitious names in your stories.

Good advice.

Dear George B. Cosgrove, aka Dr Mabeuse,

Excellent advice George. I'll never tell anyone your real name. You're secret is safe with me.

Rosemary Palm, aka DurtGurl

I didn't make myself clear. The person accusing me is not in any of my stories, not her name, not her personality, not her description. I haven't posted any new stories in a couple of years, and I only met this person recently. Just telling her about the site, and that I have stories on it was enough to get me in trouble. I need to delete everything I have put on the site. Please somebody tell me how. zachary_141@hotmail.com. (That's zacharyunderscore141@hotmail.com. Tks

What's in a name?

Dear Zachary Underscore,
What an unusual name. I once knew a Jeremy Bolditalics.

Have you considered moving to Bolivia?

Helpfully,

Dear Zachary

Why not try a policy of straightforward denial. Say you were trying to impress her or something. It seems to me that her case against you is incredibly tenuous, to say the least. Let her try to prove that you are the person that you deny to be, and then let her prove that your existence as this person is effectively a sexual harrassment of herself.

Words are only words; they have power, but somehow hers are more powerful to you, I fail to see why.

This all sounds incredibly weird. Are you american?

Dear Zachary (again)

Why not just PM Laurel and try changing your name?

YOU can't, and I'm not sure that Laurel will if it's an attempt to erase information she might be supoenaed for.

If you haven't done anything other than admit to being porn author, then I very much doubt that she's got a case for sexual harrassment. If she does have a case, it's supported by the existance of the site, and I know Laurel won't delete that just to save your reputation.
