Radio Free Jezebel

Yeah, that was me. I thought I was the only one old enough to remember the Gap Band. Cool, Sassy!!

...he's baaaaaaaccccckkkkk...

Yeah, I know it was you. That was actually supposed to be your send off, a little traveling music, but, oh well. At least you got to hear it. :)

*rounds up smelling salts and fluids, places large fluffy pillows all over the floor*

Just takin' precautionary measures. Bj will likely pass out when she hears this set.

Amy Winehouse

I've been wanting to do an Amy Winehouse set for a while. She's an old soul.
There are a lot of jazz influences in her music, but she covers a broad range of styles. These songs are from her debut album, "Frank", recorded when she was just 18. This girl has some serious pipes, just listen:

Amy, Amy, Amy

What Is It About Men?

Take The Box

In My Bed

These are from her second album, "Back To Black". Most of them have a classic sound, akin to the motown era.

Back To Black

Me & Mr. Jones

Rehab

You Know I’m No Good

I can't help but dig Amy.

I hope she survives to make another good album.

Tell me about it. She was just rushed to the hospital recently. Not sure for what, but I can guess. She has the potential to become a legend. I hope she realizes it.

She'll probably become a legend a la Hendrix, Morrison, etc with an early death due to "black".

Yeah, I was thinking it, but hoping otherwise. She's barely cleared 25, and living quite hard. There's a shot of her on YouTube allegedly snorting coke right in the middle of a performance. I can't say I'd swear on a stack of bibles that that's what she's doing, but it looks like it. She's distracted, not all there, as is common in her live performances. Notice, none of the songs in my set are live. She's talented and all, but her live performances are awful. I've never seen her perform sober. I could listen to her albums all day, but would never go see her live.

I saw a live version of her cover of "Little Rich Girl", and was appalled. Now I'm all for showing love to great old two-tone ska acts, and she obviously has love for em, but, damn, don't do it unless you're going to do it right! The girl needs to straighten up enough to handle live performances at least. She's sloppy in public, and bad shows time and again really is inexcusable for a performer.

That said, I've seen a live performance or two from her previous album that were incredible. She's got the talent, just no damned sense.

She's also notorious for no-shows. Seriously, money is too hard to come by, to be spending it on the performance that never was. I don't know which a concert goer would be more pissed about, a bad performance, or a phantom one.

I've never seen her early live sets, but there is a clear difference between her appearance then and now. Weight loss, teeth that have been lost (since replaced)...the whole bit. What makes this worse is she has a history with BP disorder. I don't know if she follows a meds regimen, but either way, the self-medicating only compounds the situation.

No shows? That's horrible.

I can't find the clips I'm looking for as youtube is slow like molasses tonight. It was on Jools Holland, and she did some brilliant work.

There was an incident where she canceled a show, the night of, claiming sickness. Now that's completely understandable, just comp the attendees for the loss. But she was spotted in a bar that very night. The press, naturally, had a field day with this.

I don't doubt her abilities at all, but like you said, she's got to pull it together. If for no other reason, her career. The public is unforgiving. People that aren't fans have been ripping her a new one every chance they get. It would stand to reason, she needs to stay on the good side of her fans. But the waters are murky when you're eyelash deep in shit. Logic doesn't exactly take precedent.

Well, she is at a crossroads right now. One way lies rehab and cleaning up (with probable lapses and further dissolution), and the other way lies death (be it her own death, or that of her career). I hope she chooses the right course.

Ok, this is a pure and simple case of being pussy whipped. I posted my set, so now Amy wants her's posted. OK. Fine. Yes, dear! (course the are all songs she likes to sing to me )
