Radio Free Jezebel

Variations on Pork Pie Hat

Because.
  • Jeff Beck: Finger picked. Reminds one of Mark Knopfler, though Beck predates him.
  • Charles Mingus: I mean, he wrote this song, y'know?
  • Joni Mitchell: Jaco plays bass, which is kind of poignant, as both he and Mingus are now gone.
  • John McLaughlin Mahavishnu plays a double-necked bass. Is that just like fuckin' cool or just odd?
And just... just... well, because.

eegad! that's no fair since "deranged" was Lilly Allen's Smile.
as far as "off track" - not hearing it doesn't hurt the list but it was LCD Soundsystem's North American Scum :D

sorry that didn't work so well for you, though! sheesh >.<

Drat I love Lily Allen ...... deranged?! *goes to play it myself to discover derangeness*
OK Played it don't think it's as deranged as Kate Bush >>>> shoots off quickly before BJ sees that!

rofl - well, Kate Bush is certainly in a sphere all her own... She's sort of like Picasso to me - I don't get it but I appreciate it. Oh, and who wouldn't appreciate someone as lovely on the inside as she is on the outside? but that doesn't mean I understand her music... :) I guess I'm just simple.

Y'know, Miss Katie does explain most o' her lyrics on 'er website...

This.

An odd mix, but this is an odd place. And it is where I am. MC GeishaGrrrrl.

Just discovered him. Feels kinda right.

Here's some more. Diggin'. Seriously diggin'.

Pardon me while I have a strange interlude.

And just remembered this.

And him.

This one sends me too. Over the edge. Three times in a row and I'm a goner.

Like I said. An odd planet, but not a bad one.

bj
You really are a mixed bag of nuts. :D I'd have you no other way.
I reeaalllllly liked that Charles Webster. Acid jazz, I think.
Oh, look what I found, just for you.....

Strange girl. I like her. Gotta admire a chick with enough balls to rock Chuck Taylors and a 1985 prom dress, like they belong together. :D
Smile is one of my favorites.

Aghhhhh 'deranged' and 'off track' got 'This video is not available in your country'

That's odd....isn't she from your side of the pond?

Don't know why I can't see that particular video because I can view plenty of her singing 'Smile'

This is a crazy mix, but it's mine.

Found one that does it. Really seriously does it. Needs to be longer, though. Like, about 6 minutes longer would work nicely I think.

this.

Then I heard this the other day and remembered how much I liked it. Kinda poignant.

Also by them. A fine one. Kinda does That Thing for me.

Yeah I know. All 80's and shit. But well, so am I.

So in that vein:
B-52's with a history lesson.

et puis encore, obscure B-52's. Theme for a Nude Beach

and back to the relative present:

Cee-Lo. Most excellent. Needed this today.

It's all about Time and Perspective, no?

*nodding* No.

Glad you liked it, doll.

Hey, your # 18 is lovely. Really poignant. I've seen so much growth in your writing lately. Dare I say the 30 30 is good for you?

If you're not a fan of rap and other urban noises, you'll want to skip this set.

Hi H8r

Wu-Tang chastises us all.

I do love me some Busta Rhymes.

Showin' my age here. A total favorite from Fishbone. The bass is insane, the lead singer is even more insane. In college we used to annoy our neighbors with this one. I recommend very high volume.

BONUS: Snoop Doggy Dogg makes mashed potatoes with Martha Stewart!

And sings a country song!

yo. yo yo yo whazzup?
You wanna go, we can go.

bij...'sup playa? ;)

incidentally, Hi H8r is awfully apropos....'tis to be your new mantra 'round here, no? Maino hit the nail on the head....'xactly what i've been trying to say....his is catchier though. could totally be your theme music.

what can i say....first Snoop goes culinary, then country. i don't think the world is ready for either. but damn if it ain't amusing to watch him try. this entire set put a mile wide grin on my face

to show my gratitude, your b-girl jewelry is in the mail. :D

I've always liked Snoop. He keeps redefining himself, he's self-effacing in that odd rapper way, he's amazingly bright and absolutely hilarious.

yup. *nodding* I heard Hi H8r on the radio the other day and it cracked me up. (yes, it's true. picture this painfully white kansas grrrl driving in her really hip ten year old toyota sedan listening to the XM Raw gangsta rap station at the highest volume her factory-issue speakers can manage. sad, no? But there it is.)

Bling! And more Bling! Yo, what up now, bitchez?

It is easier for me to write in knowing I haven't got to find one everyday

I know what you mean. I don't get a chance to write every day, so I tend to be better when I can wait to spend my coveted evenings writing for several hours and generate a bunch all at once. I'm glad the slightly more flexible form is working for you; it's certainly a more productive way for me to address it. And oddly, I write more, and I think maybe a little better, with slightly less pressure.
