Damn, I missed Alana drunk? That makes me a sad panda.

S'ok though Alana. I got candy, get in the van!

It's ok, I stole it from hypnotic_erotic.

-snickers-

Oh and Erza is gonna drive for me, and operate the camera. He's a man of many talents!

That's not a bad description, actually.

Watchmen is pretty fucking good, by the way. Both the comic and the movie.

From what I understand, the comics are better. Rick hasn't read the comics, but he was complaining about the movie. I'm sitting here like "Uh, Rick, you need to watch more classically styled superhero movies"

They're better because they flesh the story out more. I mean that's the argument you make whenever a written work or comic is turned into a movie. The movies are never long enough to tell the whole story.

That said, the movie was pretty spot on. In fact I liked the movie's tweaked ending more than the comic's. Also the costume design was a bit better, making characters like Nite Owl and Ozymandias not look quite so... 80's. Yeah I know it takes place in the 80's but you know what I mean.

Yeah. Less leather and more polycarbonate.

Never read the comic and the movie was alright but very centred around Dr Manhattan rather than the others. No matter how much they then focused on...oh wtf is his name?! The dude that wears the changing mask face thing? Help me out boys?

I liked him anyway. But it sucked that most of them didn't really have the awesome powers or anything close to Manhattan's. Anyways, I hope the comics were better, the movie lacked substance all in all, not enough action down the middle. Very empty and left me feeling 'huh...not so great after all' at the end. It was saddening and disappointing.

Rorschach. Rorschach is pretty much the narrator of the story.

It sounds like you went into it expecting a superhero movie, which I guess is fair as that's sort of how it was promoted, but it's not really that at all. At least not like Iron Man or something. It's not really supposed to be focused on action, but rather the mystery surrounding The Comedian's death.

That doesn't mean it isn't good for what it is. It's kinda like getting annoyed at a dog for not being a cat.

Yeah, damned dogs. Why can't they be Putty Tats?

Lol Veroe, you're a cracker! Hehehe :D

Yeah I guess so but it really was promoted to be something like X Men or even the Justice League so it was a major bummer. The music made up for it a lot in my opinion, I love that fucking soundtrack!!

And thank you Dragon! :rose:

Well, from what I saw for commercials, the main theme they proposed was "Who watches The Watchmen?" If you've ever seen the JLU cartoon, this is a theme that's also proposed by both The Flash and Green Arrow. In the original Justice League's final eps, Batman also asks this when Supes goes on a short one man war against Luthor. The basic premise is, who keeps superheroes on the heroic path. The movie was never about Doctor Manhattan, it was about the dangers of any one person having too much power. Doctor Manhattan was used as a scapegoat by a nutjob Superman knockoff who wanted to unify the world through fear.

Yeah well isn't that what almost every superhero movie entails or at least touches on at some point?

Not trying for this but to quote Spiderman, "With great power comes great responsibility."

I reckon just about every superhero movie at least brushes this topic. Mostly all I saw in the trailers was that smiley face with the blood splatter on it. It annoyed and fascinated me but I have to say, I just expected more. I kinda thought, "that's it?" at the end.

It's not just the action, it lacked the substance and felt like scenes were really rushed through at times. *Shrugs* My opinion anyway.

Watchmen, both the comic and the movie, was a hit and miss for me.

I think it's so seminal because it was so ground-breaking when it came out. Alot of comics have taken the mature novelized themes of Watchmen as an example and now in modern comics from Dark Knight Returns to Civil War to Identity Crisis and Planet Hulk to Sinestro War they all have that mature story-telling flavor to it that was really shown could be special by Watchmen. Comics are no longer written for children under 12, and I think Watchmen is the point where the industry realized that overall.

Though I did like the worldview it took on modern history...If Superheroes were real, very few would relegate themselves to beating up muggers on the streets. They'd be fighting in Vietam, the war on Terror...No way would the government let someone as powerful as Mahattan or Superman just run around catching falling airplanes and stopping a car theif.

I did NOT get the jist of Watchmen (movie).

I swear I watched it and paid attention....but it just didn't make sense
