Reading Books For Pleasure

I finished Wizard of the Crow by Ngugi wa Thiong'o and it was so good.

It tells about an imaginary African dictatorship called Aburiria. Lots of good insight into how the world works, lots of humor, lots of absurd details. Magical realism at its finest, really.

The ending wasn't the strongest I think, but I find it hard to pinpoint what exactly it is that I thought should have been different. Excellent story.

78.) The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister

Many love this book. I did not at first at least. I was offended by the idea of a mother who loved books so much that she paid NO attention to her child.

Said child became similarly immersed in cooking but was somehow still able to pay attention to people. The cooking was somehow considered better than reading.

The concept of taking time to cook and really breathe is a great one. However, it is not one many of us feel we can do daily.

I also did not like the cheating and so on of various characters but, in the end, I did like how they cared for each other.

79.) The $5 a Meal College Vegetarian Good Cheap Vegetarian Recipes for When You Need to Eat (Everything Books)Book by Nicole Cormier

I thought this book was pretty decent for the veggie eater on the cheap. Cheap and fast works for me. Also, often I am the only one eating but I do like leftovers. This was a Amazon Prime Read.

80.) The Golden Sword (The Camelot Inheritance ~ Book 1): by Rosie Morgan

Decent but not great juvenile novel on a theme I tend to read. I might read the second book. This was a Amazon Prime Read. It's already fading from my mind in detail but for kids grades 2 and above I think it could be good.

The Jaguar Stones: Book one Middle World by J&P Voelkel

The Body Reader by Ann Frasier 304 pages

Flutter: The Story of Four Sisters and an Incredible Journey by Erin E. Moulton 224 pages

The Gender Experiment by L.J. Sellers

All 3.5/5 not great, not bad just okay and a slight half point higher than okay.

304 pages) Pod by Stephen Wallenfels 4/5

Looking for a book that I would like as much as the Life As We Knew it quartet, I found this one. It was a super quick read for me since I could barely put it down. Loved it. I want more. The author has not made more. Boo.

160 pages) I Work at a Public Library: A Collection of Crazy Stories from the Stacks Kindle Edition by Gina Sheridan (Free Amazon Prime Read) 4/5

Really I should mark this one down for being so short but it made me laugh a lot so

Sometimes when I'm tired or feeling lazy, I reach for something that asks little of me...these days, it's Tony Hillerman. Like eating chips.:)

87.) The Botany of Desire A Plant's - Eye View of the World by Michael Pollen 4/5

I've read parts of this book before but I just love it.

88.) Eager by Helen Fox 3.5/5

A juvenile novel that focuses on first experiences and what it means to be human. Love.

David Weber's Shadow of Victory.

More a political piece based of the Cold War, than his usall Space Opera.

Hellspark by Janet kagan. 4.5/5.

Interesting, fun, light yet provoking and I'd read it again. Just picked up Black Jade by Kylie Chan and City of Light by Keri Arthur.

if there's one thing that guy can do it's make me turn page after page after page... too many nights gone to bed in the wee hours where i had to finish the book before sleeping
Yea. It's a good one.
i enjoyed it, too. quite pacey and different in a familiar kind of way :)

done. loved it.
:)

moving on to the 3rd book in the "girl with the dragon tattoo" series
maybe the best of the three!

This morning I finished The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. I quite enjoyed it. Soon I will start my annual reading of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. This year I will add in The Chimes and The Cricket on the Hearth to give this Yule the full Dickens, as it were.

I plan to start The Mysterious Mr Quin soon as well. I need to balance this all out with some non-fiction. I'm still plowing through City of the Century, but the truth is while it's full of interesting information, it's also a wee bit of a slog to get through. Perhaps I'll start the biography of Genghis Kahn that's been eyeing me up from the bookshelf.

sure, we could try

i'm a super slow reader, though

I used to be fast. I used to eat books. Not lately. I'll bring up the rear with you.

I can dig it * Puts on glasses *

Pick something ;)
Glasses, huh?

Omg lit book club!

We need wine. In fact, we may as well just hold it in the Drunk Thread.

Smarty Pants.

I could get into reading some Gaiman. Or, re-reading.
I was going to suggest The story of O, since I've never read it, and it seems to hold a common interest.

Or anything else. I will read anything, if anyone is burning.
