Rick's Rooftop...an OOC lounge

I don't think I was one of the 'orignials'; far from it, but I've visited here from time to time and it's such a time that Rick's is deserted these days ... perhaps it's overdue a revival?

I think that is a wonderful idea Mari :):rose:

I was always too shy to enter back when it was popular and I was new ... but loved the ambience of the place nontheless.

I remember, and I long for days past, friends made at Lit and lost to the "real world.;" Thanks for the memories and the joy I found at Ricks Rooftop.

You're all missed.

Does no one hangout here now? I remember this place. Even if I didn't talk here much. =)

No Vailyn, Ricks is deserted these days. I think people may wander through from time to time, as I do, but most of the "original" inhabitants have long since left both the Rooftop and Lit. It sure was great while it lasted, though.

*shrugs* life happens.

Hello Kit...looking lovely as always *bowing, kissing hand* and hello ladies *smiling, stepping and repeating the bow and kiss to both* nice to see you, as well.

Yes, Rick's has fallen into disrepair, to some extent, like so much of Lit from olden days...RL has certainly struck here hard.

While I wouldn't necessarily wish to dwell in the past or attempt to resurrect the spontaneity of that time, I think we could still have fun "hanging" out when visiting Lit and sharing thoughts, dreams, or simply the companionship that comes from an exchange of words among friends and acquaintances.

So...allow me to get a round of drinks for everyone and then we'll see what kind of noshes we can find back in the kitchen...:)

Well, it is so nice that you have become less shy then, :rose: I hope we shall be seeing much more of you to add to our newly developing ambience.

Hi Remec,

Well, I think it might be an idea to get together a refurbishment party ... a bit of clearning, a bit of maintenance ... and of course an overhaul and restock of edibles and drinkables... then perhaps we could be ready for a relaunch ... I definitely volunteer to put in a some 'elbow grease' if necessary!

Mari x :rose:

Oh My! Open the doors and people come in. Why didn't I think of that before?

Mari, you are an "original" in spirit, and at Lit that's what really counts.

Remec, charming as always..*offers a soft kiss to the cheek*

Yeisha, I lurked around the Roof for quite a while before I felt brave enough to speak up, but I was never sorry that I did.

I agree, Remec, dwelling in the past is never a good thing. I am certainly not the woman that joined Lit all those years ago, so trying to relive that character wouldn't work very well for me.

I'll take the drink but maybe we should restock the kitchen?

I think a relaunch sounds like a great idea. The clean-up will likely take some industrial grade grease, but its worth the effort. I'm in. :)

*grin* Hi, ya'll! I tried to see if I could find what I posted in here but I'm pretty sure it's lost in the back ages. None the less, it'll be fun to renew the place, hangout and meet new/old faces.

I can mix drinks, pour straight and already have a pot of my favorite tea brewing.

Wanders in. Looks around. Hi I over heard an over haul. I'm kind of handy with wood work, electrical, and basic mechanics. You show me what you want and I'll repair or install it. But I recommend I start on the jukebox so we have tunes.

Priorities

I love men who know how to use tools. :)

The jukebox certainly. There used to be a large working hot tub around here somewhere, too.

This could be a happenin' place again.

One of the things that I enjoyed about Ricks was the chance for authors to "test drive" each other and maybe swap an idea or two.

I look forward to getting to know each of you.

Kit

Lady Kit is it?pleased to meet you. Most folks call me Raven. The hot tub is a bust. The filter is perma- sludged in place. The pump is rusted solid. And I think the ectoplasmatic ooze has eaten through the enamel. I'm thinking a refit with just a few more square feet. It has to be rewired anyway to bring it up to code. As soon as I'm done with the jukebox. I'm going to sand and resurface the bar. A nice size flat working surface will come in handy when every one starts bringing in cleaning supplies and restocking every thing. On the good side the twinkles on the bottom shelf over there are indestructible. So they're still good.

*places a large jug of cold lemonade and a plate of cookies in a clear spot on one of the remaining tables*

Raven, you're delightful and made me smile. Please, just call me Kit; I'm not always a Lady.

Not surprised to hear about the hot tub, probably one too many champagne parties thrown in there. I'm sure a new tub with more jets will please the patrons. Code? This joint disregards every code from the one about proper attire to the fire regulations. Is only by the grace of someone that this place hasn't combusted already. By the way, be careful in the kitchen, I think the last bartender was making his own hooch back there, and that stuff could go off if you breathe on it warmly.

Sounds like a good plan. I'm sure you're right about a large flat surface coming in handy, though I generally prefer mine to be cushioned.

Twinkies and cockroaches, the only things left after the zombie apocalypse, 'cause even the undead have standards.

Night all,

Working somewhat unhappily undisturbed for most of the evening and well in to the morning Raven stops the survey his work. The jukebox stands bright and gleaming against the wall. All of the lights working. The records all lovingly restored. One spins now the new speakers belting out. Shake rattle and role.

The bar freshly sanded. A few dings filled with putty. Four coats of lacquer a thousand grit hand sand between each coat. The old mirror behind the bar polished to perfection. Nine good stools all tightened back up. All of them repadded and recovered.

A new hot tub aqua in color. With a island that drops down from the ceiling. All the pipes replaced with the help of an old friend. And all of the wiring replaced with the help of a pair of unicorns. (What you didn't think I was gonna pull all the wire? And beside this place could use a touch of magic)

Checks the hooch yep I can work with that. Puts half aside for now. Adds a degreaser to the other half and labels it paint stripper handle with gloves and extreme care highly flammable. Only six bottles but its a start. Makes sure all of the other lights are turned on and working. Dims the lights to a faint glow. Drops a role of nickels in the jukebox and hits random. Places a fedora on the coat rack. And closes the door as he leaves.

Ariosto' very first post....

Rick's Rooftop lounge and Piano Bar is an addition to the Café Americain. Located above that lively cabaret it is meant to provide a pleasent, informal atmosphere for discussion and dialogue concerning our activities on the SRP board. The Rooftop is not a thread itself but a common meeting ground for players on many other story threads to get together.

In order to provide a format for meaningful conversations the following rules need to be followed.

First, each player is limited to six posts per day. This is to level the playing field between those who can only post rarely and those with the leisure to post a dozen times a day or more.

Second, flirtation is to be kept under control. Conversation is the heart of the Rooftop so conduct should be measured by what would be acceptable in a public environment. Flirting is fun but unfortunately can rapidly become the essence of the thread.

The Rooftop is not at odds with the Café, in fact it's an offshoot of it, meant to provide a quieter ambiance
for constructive dialogue.

Please come up.
We have cool jazz, fine beverages and a spectacular view of Casablanca and the wide green sea beyond...

( preserved for historical purposes)

Thank you for the welcome Remec, I am still a tad on the shy side but really feel that our area of Lit is badly in need of this type of thread and I must admit I really miss the old days here at Lit when all were welcomed and accepted and conversation was openminded and fun rather than reflective of a single mind set.:rose:

Good to see you in here now yeisha! :rose:

* offers Mari a warm hug* Thank you Mari I am happy I came. Please count me in if you need help for the party.:rose:

* smiles at Kit * I am very pleased to meet you Kit... This time around I shall be braver I think.:)

* looks around at all the work Raven_timothy has done during the night amazed at how much he has acomplished*

Beautiful ......:):rose:

*enters Ricks, clad in short cut-offs and a t-shirt declaring "its only kinky the first time" bearing coffee and muffins (an old tradition)*

Good Morning! My, what a change a few hours and a couple of good men can make. The bar looks wonderful Raven, many thanks to you, your friend and the unicorns (must be more virgins on Lit than I thought). The whole thing is great-can't wait to try out the tub. Once the bar is fully stocked, your first drink is on me, or you can have it in a glass if you'd rather. ;)

Yeishia, what a lovely idea! Its good to see some familiar things brought out of the closets...speaking of closets, be careful of those, goodness knows what was left behind. A couple of them we're pretty busy places at one time. I hope you do feel braver this time around, it will be nice to get to know you. :rose:

Mari, looks like all that's left is clean up and party planning. I'll tackle the first, and start with that nasty kitchen, if you'll take the second.

If I don't come out of the kitchen by dark send in the haz-mat team.

*heads through the door behind the bar, carrying cleaning supplies and industrial grade rubber gloves*

Wow! I heard there'd been changes around here, but it looks incredible already!

Party planning it is ... I figured we needed some extra equipment, so I've been shopping ...

*Waves a couple of helpful young men inside and directs them to place the gifts upon the new counter*

Well, OK .. I went a little crazy, but I love shopping ... and these lovely gentlemen were more than happy to ... help me out ... what girl could resist?

Anyhows, whatever we decide to do party wise, these will come in handy from now onwards ...

So ... down to planning ... decorations? .... theme ...? .... and of course FOOD!!

*jumps in and waves hello*

Hi! How about a Hawaiian theme? Fire, flowers, roasted pig, fun music and etc.

=D

Raven glides in carrying l medium size crate. Landing gently he opens the crate. First thing he pulls out is a package of twenty five shoulder length rubber gloves. The second is his level A hasmat suit. He unpacks the military issue litter. Setting the last two aside for now.(in hopes that he won't need them. Goes in to the kitchen handing Kit a pair of gloves and a bottle of bleach.

Hi Kit nice to see you today. I thought you might need these today. I also have a gas mask in the other room if you need it. The bleach is stb. (Super tropical bleach) its military grade 70% bleach so cut it with a looot of water. What you get in the store is only13%. On you or in a glass hummm. I'll have to think on that one. grins.

Today I'm gonna work on the doors, shelves, and a shade room for Yeishia. As I understand it she likes her shadows. And that may make her a little more comfortable. I have a professional kitchen sink in the crate out there as soon as we can get a body or two more we can move it in here for you.

Nicely done DM. Hay could you have your boys move this sink in the kitchen please?

Hiya Vailyn, that sounds like an amazing idea ... we could dress up too ... well those who wish too ...

*sets to scribbling more notes*

I can help with getting a live band, some authentic Hawaiian chow and maybe pretty little sarongs. ;)

Perfect .... and I think yeisha wanted to help out with the party stuff too ... she is so creative and has a great eye for beautiful things ... I'm sure she'll love the Hawaiian idea....

*appearing in the doorway from downstairs with an armload of tiki torches*
So, I understand we're going with a touch of Hawaii for the relaunch, eh? Sounds good to me. I brought these for around the tub and over by wherever we decide to set up the buffet. Even unlit, they add to the atmosphere, and will be the right touch when night falls and we light them up.

Seeing as how the Rooftop is for more of a gentle--subdued, one might say, level of flirtation and all, are we planning on keeping the hot tub suits optional or should we go with suits required while on premises?:devil:

How about bikinis and grass skirts (grass skirts taken off for the tub of course) for the girls and Hawaiian shorts for the boys ....? At least as an initial dress code?

*smiles*

Mari x :rose:

I arrive smiling my arms filled with two huge baskets of home made exotically colored Lei.

I stayed up all night making these, tradition has it that one should be given to each guest as they arrive I think.

*blushing slightly I giggle and teasingly sugest*

Clothing for the more shy people such as myself...yes?

They do hide a bit...
