Runners unite?

Anyone with running related New Year goals?
I'm hoping to get back to regular running. I've had a lengthy hiatus due to a knee problem, illness and work pressures. I'd like to get back up from barely ten miles a week to my former twenty to twenty-five, with longer runs.

I’ll be running a marathon in July. I’m going to squeeze in two halfs before that.
Have you done one before? I'd suggest that it's important to get in some longer runs (up to twenty miles) more than a month before tapering down for the main event. Half marathons are good but they don't pose the same problems as the later stages of a marathon.

Good luck, anyway! :)

Thanks for the advice!

Anyone with running related New Year goals?

Not booked onto any races yet, but three goals:

* Run more than 1,500km over the year
* Run a 10k race under 50 minutes (do it regularly in training, never when chipped!!!)
* Get up to at least 30km for my long training runs

A Marathon still remains an elusive goal, but I'm looking at 2019 to take one on

Good goals there Englishgent.

I'd like to gain more confidence in my knee wrt running downhill after an injury.

I've never felt happier running than when I was running long distances

Phew! That was much better than expected. I just completed 6.5 miles non-stop at a steady pace — indeed, I managed to accelerate a bit towards the end. My knee twinged a little at the start but then settled down.

I'm hopeful that the New Year might see me return to full fitness and speed. :)

Another day — another 10 km run. Actually, a bit more due to a mis-navigation on my part. ;)

Anyone ever run nude? There's a naked 5k coming up that I'm thinking about doing. I'd love to hear about anyone's experience with one, if anyone has tried one
No one ever posts in here!!! Yay! I’ve seen them but I could never 🫣

Haha, I'd love to see this thread be busier.
Have you seen them as in watched them?
It seems like it'd be a blast.

So I ended up doing that nude 5k last month. It was an absolute blast. Super comfy running naked, and it was surprising how quickly the fact that everyone was naked was no big deal.
I went back to the resort that hosted the race yesterday, and was able to run naked in the pouring rain. Such an amazing feeling and experience.

Hey everyone. Any fellow runners here on Lit?! Anyone training for anything fun? As for me I am currently training to run the Portland marathon, a new one for me. Can't wait.
I do some running and other general fitness exercises🏃‍♂️, but I'm not training for anything other than longevity as I get older.😃

Oh this is a good thread to follow / bump / frequent more!

I’m a recreational runner who’s in the midst of prepping to do a half marathon! (Just started that training program so many, many, many weeks to go!)

I will admit I’m nervous about losing progress once the school year starts back up… long runs just take so… long haha. What’s worse, I’m a morning person who’d love to run in the morning but the amount of time it takes me to cool down / stop sweating post-run just isn’t conducive with getting to work super early :/

Post run shower with ‘cool’ water? That helps me stop sweating. Or you do abnormal shower and end it with a few minutes if ‘cold’ water. Takes some adapting, but has Ben great for my sweat issues

keep up with running. It is a good way to keep in shape.

I ran this year (2023) Boston Marathon -- my very first BM in the AG 55-60. I am trying to qualify again this year just to run in 2025 Boston Marathon. I am just a old runner 'trying' to BQ.

As for shower after running, I always end my shower with cold water for about 1 minutes.

Also a recreational runner, getting back into it after a couple of years off. Starting to see real progress now, which makes me feel great.
I don't tend to run far, 5km will be my limit, anything longer just gets boring 😂
I've had loads of support from strava, would be good to get a community like that here too.
Wishing everyone all the best.
Hi TinyLittleMe,

What you described was me at the beginning. Get yourself some nice running clothing and few pairs of 'nice' running shoes. Fine a nice safe course in your area and start running. The key is to mix your running with easy run, short run, track workout and longer run if possible.

I will support you.

Joe
