Should Bowman Be Sanctioned? Expelled? Prosecuted?

Again...apologists for behavior unbecoming of the House of Representatives. Why is the Federal Govt so fucked up? Only have to look in this thread.

No one has apologized.

so ??? seems a bit premature, not to mention harsh, calling for all sorts of punishments for the guy before understanding what actually happened. The biggest 'crime' he seems culpable for is a sense of entitlement that made him think needing to get to a vote in a hurry constituted the kind of emergency these signs were designed to cover.

Dude, really?

"The New York lawmaker told reporters hours later that it was a mistake and that he was rushing to get to votes and was trying to get through a door that is usually open, but was closed due to it being a weekend.

I thought it would help me open the door,” he said about pulling the trigger, denying that it was an effort to stall anything.
Capitol Police said in a statement late Saturday that an “investigation into what happened and why continues.”"

That doesn’t look like a door which would usually be open, but anything’s possible on Capitol Hill.

Yeah, as more comes out about the actual location and the circumstances, it appears there is a plausible argument for the guy having a case of frustration / impatience induced entitlement.

If it is revealed in subsequent days that the door in question WAS sometimes open, then the guy would have an even stronger defense against the charge that his actions were an attempt to "delay" or "interfere" with the vote.

Still a dumb move that requires a consequence.

There are NO arguments in favor of this idiot. There are NO excuses for this idiots actions. None. There is NOTHING about that little red box on the left wall that says it will open those doors.

We've all seen these panic bar type door alarms ... push bar, alarm sounds ... We don't pull a lever clearly stating Fire Alarm to open a door to the outside.

if every congress person was booted out for doing something stupid, three-quarters of the republican representatives would be missing along with a few democrats

let it be investigated and, i'm sure, there are procedures in place to deal with eventualities such as these.

The thing that jaF0 is missing, is that there is little evidence / proof of a serious crime / violation being committed based on what we know at this point.

If it was indeed intentionally done to delay or interfere with the vote, then that elevates the seriousness of the crime / violation imho. But, as many here and elsewhere have pointed out ad nauseam, it is very difficult to prove intent. - Especially in situations like this.

Looking at that sign, a person could argue that they we’re in a hurry and read it as: saying: PUSH ALARM - DOOR WILL UNLOCK IN 30 SECONDS.

The fact that the congressman claims he pulled the alarm to unlock the door because he was in a hurry to get to the Capitol building where the vote was taking place is completely plausible, and it would be impossible to prove otherwise short of someone producing a taped conversation of that congressman saying he intended to pull that alarm for the specific purpose of delaying or interfering with the vote.

It is completely possible that the congressman had a lapse in reading comprehension and judgment due to the stress he was under, and it was as "innocent" as that.

What do people suggest the punishment for what is actually provable should be.

🤔

As I said, DC likely has a set fine in their ordinances. Capitol may also have something. Probably a few hundred dollars. Assess those, take them out of his pay and move on. Maybe a letter of reprimand of some kind.

But his story is a load of Buffalo Dung.

Yeah, a fine and a reprimand seems about right for a first time offense.

I have no reason to believe his story is “a load of Buffalo Dung” at this point.

Arguing over this issue simply indicates you've got way too much time on your hands.

I must agree as well, this person knew exactly what he was doing and more importantly why he was doing it...
Our leaders are selected from our population, this is a sad indication of who we are, where we are morally.
As far consequences? more that anything, he should be required to pay for the cost of the emergency services used in this instance.... including the down time of his colleagues.....

It turns out to be not such a big deal. He was in a different building, not the Capitol. The vote happened. He voted for the bill. But he was a school principal. Students may remember his excuses when they pull alarms at school. He may need to make personal appearances at schools in his district.

Fines are boring. He could be sentenced to pick up trash or mow the Capitol lawn.

Sanctioned - absolutely
Prosecuted - absolutely
Expelled - if his constituents want, yes.
Yes, I'm a conservative leaning towards libertarian and believe (constitutionally) expulsion is up to constituents, not fellow members of Congress.

As a law and order conservative voter I think these suggestions are all wrong.
Sanctioned? Expelled? Prosecuted?
We should ask the real person who’s the leader of the House and who has had run ins with Bowman in the past what she thinks is the proper Georgia way to handle this black man’s criminal ways.
I believe she would say - get rope, find tree.

What? Did I go and say the quiet part out loud?
