I can just see it now:
Doctor: your cholesterol level has gone through the roof! What have you been eating?
Me: Nothing different, I still take the meds, drink 1% milk, and watch the saturated fats and trans fats.
Doctor: Well something is causing it to skyrocket.
Me: Should I avoid rubbing olive oil all over my body?

This produce has a lot of possibilities....
I keep a large one in my car to haul kids, golf stuff, plants, etc. We also sat on it at a picnic in July, and I'll go with water-resistant, but the dampness of the grass definitely could be felt. With oil, liquids, or something really messy, I wouldn't trust it to protect the bedding/carpet underneath on its own. It's a great idea for less-messy stuff though!pleasteasme said:In the grocery store the other day I saw a product that made me think of this thread:

Here's a beginning of an answer, taken from an article on the physiology of the use of essential oils in aromatherapy. Since it's in the aromatherapy tutorial at the Creighton University School of Medicine alternative medicine web site, the fact that the article points to only negligible absorption of oils into the bloodstream ought to be taken as a sign of reliability. The article from which this was taken was written by a physician.Scalywag said:Does anyone know the answer to this question? I really like the thought of using olive oil.
thanks.
If we lived closer, we could do a kid-swap. I like the idea of staying at the MW Grand. Never been there but I have heard that it's a beautiful place. Another venue that I have always wanted to try is the Bretton Woods center up near that town in NH that votes at midnight.Scalywag said:MWY - thanks for doing this legwork. This is what I was hoping to hear. Now I just need to find a way to either a) ditch the kids with a reliable person for an overnight, or b) get a reliable person to stay here with the kids overnight while we get away.
I think b is the better option so the kids can still do their usual activities, though finding a reliable person may prove difficult
I'm thinking Mount Washington Grand Hotel.
Yes, I was confusing The Balsams with Bretton Woods. My parents have been to both places many times and the pictures always looked spectacular. One of my favorite memories is of hitchhiking across Route 2 a few times one summer while I was doing a lot of mountain climbing in the region. Even now I like to take the scenic route occasionally when I drive from Chicago to Maine and follow Route 2 from Vermont across New Hampshire into Maine.Scalywag said:Bretton Woods in actually near MW Grand. I've beet to bretton Woods but not to MW Grand (my wife worked at the MW Grand one summer many years ago, before they renovated the place - I think it would make a nice surprise).
maybe you're thinking of The Balsams in Dixville Notch. They're the dudes that vote first in the nation. Never been there either.

Not a big deal for me since I work at home, but it is for my wife.

I see your point about oral. I love giving oral, so I'll have to work this in before the oil gets spread.
Thanks for the clean-up ideas too.
