Snippetsville: General Discussion

WSO,

The banner isn't the problem. Getting the measurements correct are. :(

400 X 86 pixels, right?

Is there any bit limit?

This is 9,568 kb as a jpg.

Quasi,

Sorry, I was just fiddling about to see if I could learn a little about putting pics in the sig line (yes with the eventual look at a banner somewhere down the track).

the first one is
26185 bytes
530 x 304 pixels

the second one is
2967 bytes
181 x 104 pixels

the third one is
4702 bytes
400 x 86 pixels

It says in the area where you attach the file in the post:
Attach file:
Maximum size: 102400 bytes

- man that sure sounds a scary amount ;)

NB everyone: I was just seeing if I could get placement right... this is a practise run only - do not panic!

Hey gang I had to share this - it may be an idea for a Snip story.

On the radio over here in the UK I heard an item about a small town in Kansas which is too small to pay a police force has passed a town ordinance saying "all adults must own a gun."

Now I know Kansas is the home of the Wizard of Oz but ...

Anyone of our Stateside members know anymore about this town????

Second point should we have the Town Council start passing some whacky ordinances?

ps Have completed my 50K for NaNoWriMo and still hammering on. But will take time out for a Xmas 600

Wacky by whose standards...

I second Jon's idea considering all the hilarious regulations and decisions I've seen passed in this town. My personal favorites are zoning ordinances.

As for guns in small U.S. towns, an ordinance like the one in Kansas is only a formality. Everyone and their grandmother has guns or some sort of deadly weapon used primarily for hunting. People figure that guns are a great way to reduce their grocery bill and threaten any potential riff-raff that tries to interfere with the peace of our town. People figure that one is less likely to be shot if he/she is able to shoot back.

Where I live, everyone who is not marred by youth, a previous history of mental illness and/or past violent crimes/felony owns at least one hunting rifle or handgun. Everyone else owns one or more of the following: a crossbow, hunting knife, b.b. gun. and/or a "borrowed" gun purchased by supportive relative.

To illustrate the prevalence of our weapon culture, I would like to share the story of a seven-year-old second cousin of my husband's that shot a six-point buck. The little girl's daddy thought it would be cute if she waited at the hunting post with a rifle, by herself. This child who loves Barbie and the color pink was able to blast Bambi into the dinner table with a single shot. She even helped her daddy field-gut and skin the beastie, even if she kept saying, "That's so gross and slimy."

We only have one cop who is nicknamed after a large fierce animal who only works 40 hours a week and they can barely afford him. We also have gun-safety courses every month, sportsmans club meetings every week and at least one wild-game raffle every other week. To outsiders our system may seem like overkill, but it works for us. Of course, in Puerto Rico almost everyone owns a gun to protect themselves from drug smugglers headed to the mainland, but there is still violent crime galore, so I assume the effectiveness of the weapon-culture is regional.

Cheers,
Vas of SWP owner of a crossbow, many scary knives and whatever her husband hunts.

(ignore this)

Jon and Vas,

I've thought about this for a couple of days.

When we were setting up the Snip Ambience, we discussed what we would like to see as our Township. Here's the original thread for anyone who has not seen it.

https://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=186859&highlight=snippettsville+ambience

Whilst I know the usefulness of guns and knives in a rural farming area (I was brought up in one myself), Weird Harold's quote probably says what I think best,

I'd like to think that Snippetsville will not turn into Sodom and Gomorah and be a quiet peacefull town on the surface that's filled with horny people trying to act like sex doesn't exist.

I think that if violent crimes are wanted, then they would best be served from another township.

Agreed. No sex, but the intimacy (sexual and non sexual) is perfect. Well done PierceStreet. :)

Gauche, where is your Christmas story?

I think "zoning" / or as we call them "planning" decisions would probably strike a chord with all our readers. I am sure there is no other sphere of local government that alienates the people for one reason or other. A quick thought - I am sure an application to open a "massage parlour" would stimulate a lot of debate in Snip.

Careful with the assumptions! Unfortunately since the regulation of guns in this country has tightened - no legal ownership of handguns even extends to bona fide target shooters - no automatic shotguns etc. There has been a mushrooming growth of gun crime - according to the police many of the guns are replicas and real guns that have been "deactivated" which have then been doctored in backstreet workshops so they will work. I think the National statistic is we now get about one person shot dead a week, and a crime involving guns everyday. In broad terms in this country it is illegal for a householder to defend his property with a firearm - the requirement is that self-defence has to be proportional. To kill someone in self-defence the person has to be able to prove they had good cause to believe their life was in imminent danger.

Are there any other Christmas stories in the pipeline?

Closing date for the Literotica contest is 5th December so please let me know asap.

(PierceStreet, I wonder if that program is ever going to be aired here in NZ. It looks like it'll be worth watching! Thanks for passing it on. :) )

Edited because I missed Seattle Zack's story. My apologies.

No problem, WSO, you just saved me a PM.

I think I'll rename it "Christmas Spirit" though, the title is too similar to Quasi's. Going to edit it now.
