"Tales of Leinyere" Story Event: Official Support Thread

This is freaking awesome. If I had to change anything, I'd say tone her breasts down a cup size or so. Clothes can be a real bone of contention. "Why should I drrress? I have furrr, can't you see?" :) But most well-behaved kitties do wear bits and pieces to protect others' modesty. :)

My inspiration (and source of quite a few wet dreams) is this beauty here.

Thank you.:)
I imagine that there can be quite the range in breast sizes...
Clothing just for fun and/or for when occasions warrant...?

Once upon a time there were two goddesses - Nephys, the goddess of disease, and Kitira, the goddess of vengeance. Sisters from the third generation of gods, they loathed each other and despite the difference in their portfolios they would snipe at each other and attempt to undermine the other's followers.

One day during [INSERT EVENT HERE] when the gods were distracted, Kitira took advantage and slew her sister, absorbing her divine essence. Nephys' portfolio was divided among the greedy evil gods while Kitira ascended in power, becoming akin to the second generation of gods.

Hundreds of years later, however, certain magic users have begun hearing the whispers on the winds.

Gods live. Gods die.

But can gods become undead?

My idea is for a down-on-his luck magic user, or perhaps a minor user of illusions and parlor tricks, to begin hearing Nephys whispering to him. She's pulled herself back together into a semblance of unlife and seeks someone she can control and mold into her new high priest.

Could that work?

Sounds good to me, PoisonPen!

Are Nephys and Kitira in the same Pantheon as Kelthala, who gave the north-central sea its name?

Two salesbeings decided that they should team up and head to the rural areas out west. The Capital city was a thriving, elemental steam powered city but many of the wonders hadn't made it to the remote areas of Leinyere. There was potentially a lot of silver for a travelling salesbeing.

Glladin, a black short haired Anocot from the cool southern regions snarled and hit the steering tiller. "What do you mean, you can't get it up? You're a fire elemental. Boiling this kettle should be easy."

"I... I don't know what's wrong. I've never had an ED problem before. Maybe we can get some coal from that farmer over there to get it going. A little bit of incentive may be all I need..."

"Yeah, well. I hope so. On the bright side, we could possibly sell him some widgets."

Well that depends - do we want to do one world-spanning pantheon or to have each "region" have its own?

Personal preference is one pantheon, to add another unifying factor to the setting.

Practical solution: Regional/civilization-centric, maybe with cross-references. "The seagoing folk call her Ul'dirah, goddess of floods and rage, but to those inland, she is known as The Weeping Mother, bringer of torrents and harbinger of eternal grudges". Might require a bit more editing in the end but would give individual authors more leeway.

Will there be dragons?

Dragons are great, but the hot women that ride them are even better!

Seconded.

I love this!

Maybe some of the less educated/traveled don’t realize it’s all one pantheon with deities with regional names?

Story premise: I kind of want to do a fantasy-Logan's Run storyline vibe. I want to have an order of monks on the island. All male. They have isolated themselves away from the impure temptations of the cities and their mechanical constructs (we're going with cities = steampunk, right?) and have developed a "sex-based magic system" (we can do magic, right?). Through orgasms and sex with each other, they can pierce the veil and see beyond. I mean, c'mon; this is a fantasy story, and what's a good fantasy story without a prophecy?!

What do you think about making the magic they cast partially determined by the kind of sex they have?

Examples:
Bondage sex to cast teleportation or speed enhancement
Blindfolded sex to cast clairvoyance or prophecy

P.S. Let me know when you have a title if you want me to add you to the list on the OP

P.P.S. Did I put Thrace in the right place?

I can't wait to read this, Rusty!

Let me know when you have a title if you want me to add your story to the list in the OP. Also, let us all know if you do any world-building!

Bloody plot bunny bit me on the ankle. It's a riff on the old Travelling salesman who breaks down joke.

I'm happy to work with others for the world building. I was thinking a cat-like race from the southern highlands and a human elemental wielder.

The capital city would be in a steampunk style, similar to what's in Full Metal Alchemist or The Legend of Korra.

I'm thinking the further you get from the city, the level of tech goes down but the use of magic goes up.

But, it's early days and I'm happy to reshape my world ideas to suit. Mine's just a bit of fun in the world.

Perfect! And we've already got catfolk, to boot!

Hundreds of years later, however, certain magic users have begun hearing the whispers on the winds.

That would work with mine. The monks on the Isle of Thrace left the main continent to get away from the fallout from the gods that ravaged the lands as a result. They went to an island away from the women (matriarchical society on the continent?) and commune with [name], a male god of sex/lust/brotherhood. This would be how they receive the revelation, a vision of the return of something foreboding, which connects to the other stories of people "waking up" to these "whispers".

This could give a cool "twist" when the monk who leaves the island meets up with another character and discovers that they worship the same god, only the monks know him as a male god (kind of an Artemis/Loki-type who is sometimes male, sometimes female).

P.P.S. Did I put Thrace in the right place?

I was thinking more where the magic is more like divination rather than elemental based. A lot of prophecy, glamoring, illusion, that sort of thing.
Thrace is 100% in the right place.
Working title would be: "Of Things To Come"

I'm thinking the further you get from the city, the level of tech goes down but the use of magic goes up.

I can get behind this 100%. Never seen FMA, but can picture the LoK comparison. It would also fit with my monks and their rustic lifestyle since they're on an island away from everything.

Stupid question, but important to ask early on: Decimal, Imperial or totally made-up measurement units? For the latter, a conversion chart will be needed.

Also, more races: Orcs. Endurance from Hell, literally, because they can directly trace their bloodline to one of the infernal gods or godesses and they're mighty proud of their divine ancestry. So, they're fierce, tribal, devout and eschew any kind of "modern" tech as "tools for fools" and "crutches for the weak". They have a proud metalworking tradition and produce excellent blades and axes begging to be enchanted and fearsome armor and battle masks. Their settlements, especially the temples, are among the oldest on the continent, rivaling the elven and draconic monuments.

To add an extra scary bent to the archetype, have them exist as well-organized fighting forces. The only thing currently stopping them from trying to steamroll the civilized world is a six-way civil war between the last God-King's heirs. They are very fertile - quickly recoup losses by breeding - and their genetic code is highly mutable, so they're compatible with basically anything. Very bold scholars posit that orc seed is responsible for numerous species of giant or dire monster variants, the creation of which we're probably not allowed to explore - re: bestiality...

Good question.

As an American who stupidly tried to write a sci-fi story set far enough in the future that my country wised up and ditched the Imperial system, I know it can be tedious as the bad kind of fuck to do conversions constantly while writing.

That said, I don't have a solution to keep at least some of us from doing that if we end up mentioning measurements at all.

Metric would be the easiest to do computations.
'merican measurements might be the most relatable (he says with much bias).
Something too made up might lose people if they have to use a chart.

I'd go with metric, and leave the measurements in metric. The anime I've watched tend to use it - if they mention it at all. It's usually "a day's travel" or "a mug of beer".

I am intrigued by this event. I don't have an idea yet, but I will think on it.
Allesandra finds another faery ring, takes Quinn with her sword to fight dragons, and Leslie to operate the steampunkery. Mate, how can you have no ideas?

The below is what happens when you read the thread while also having your weekly role-playing game session over Google Hangouts...

What I have below is how ONE group sees magic. It works for them, but to others across the world, it's complete and utter BS. If it's TOO powerful or doesn't fit what we're going for, please disregard it.

Portoa (on the coast near the Amber Hills )- a city on the western coast of the continent, where the Sapphire River flows into the ocean. Known for shipbuilding. Governed by a council of nobles with a ceremonial monarch - "The Queen of the Waters," chosen every decade by the commoners during a festival.

Amber Hills (the northern end of the western mountain range) - a series of foothills and low mountains known for timber and rich ore, mined and harvested for ships in Portoa.

Tomuun (toe-moon) - Goddess of the Sea, also known as Ul'dirah and the Weeping Mother. Central temple is located in Portoa.

Nephys - Goddess of Disease, also known as Ca'chew and the Princess of Flies.

Katira - Goddess of Vengenace, also known as Kwicka and She Behind the Blade.

Magic is unique on Leinyere, as there are many different ways to tap its potential. Some pray to the gods. Some call upon nature. Some draw from the most primal of actions - sex. Some have learned to channel their magic through machinery. To the "civilized" folk on the western coast, beyond the mountains, their way is the best and more efficient. Obviously.

To the members of the Topaz Order, the world is filled with an invisible substance called Aether. Those with the capability to see and manipulate this energy can do wonderous things. Not all who can see are able to grasp more than a string or two, leading to a magical "lower class" of street magicians and hucksters.

The Topaz Order has broken magic down into fourteen "schools." Magic is performed by seeing each School as “reality.” A magician is simply living in their own reality and working within its rules - an Elemental magician sees the world built from the four basic elements while a Forces magician watches the ebb and flow of gravity, momentum, and the pull of the tides.

Learning multiple schools drives a magician mad because they’re seeing two or more "realities" at once. No magician has ever learned more than three schools before going insane and having to be put down. To those who practice magic through other methods, this limits a magician to what they can do and cuts them off from a wider world. To the Topaz Order, it allows them to focus on one area and become incredibly powerful, counting on their colleagues to cover for their deficencies via their schools.

Aether (all magic users have access) – aether bolt, aether shield, aether sight, aether sense

Telekinesis (sensory expansion, personal shields, mental energy projection) vs. True Alchemy (poisons, healing)

Time Magic (slow down/speed up the passage of time, look into the past, cannot see future) vs. Space Magic (teleportation, co-location, tesseracts)

Mind (enhancing one’s own mental capabilities) vs. Body (enhancing one’s own physical strength, speed, stamina)

Conjuration (summoning objects) vs. Illusion (summoning illusions)

Construct Magic (golems, familiars, enhancing physical structures, banishment) vs. Spiritual Magic (exorcism, nature spirits, the Fae, banishment)

Prophecy (predict the future, cause the effect) vs. Chance (the breaks go your way)

Forces (lightning, electricity, gravity) vs. Elemental (manipulate fire, water, air, earth – projection, expand/dissipate, elementals)

Life Magic (blood/resurrection/extended lifespan/healing others) vs. Death Magic (necromancy/lichdom) - both schools are considered “forbidden magic,” tends to drive magicians mad by dealing with the “natural order”

I added Portoa to the map. Is it in the right place? It can be moved if not.

I also added your goddesses and a link to your post to the Notes Doc for the magic rules.

I'm definitely on board with there being different schools of magic, especially if none of them explain everything. There could even be people looking for an elusive Unified Theory of Magic...

Do you have a working title yet, PoisonPen?
