The 2026 [lit] 750 Word Project Support Thread

They don't, no. Here's one I did last year; you can see that the displayed word count is 847 because there's a foreword explaining where the story came from.
And that gives you a little leeway with varying word counts. Try for exactly 750 by whatever count you have. As long as you have a note at the beginning, no one will notice if your count varies by a word or two.

But that's cheating! I always hit 750. But that's me, others may find their experience differs.

I've been busy working on an expansion (or actually a novella inspired by), Why'd It Have to Be Snakes?

I go for 750 by my word processor’s count, but I have noticed lot varies minimally. But I don’t want it rejected for being 749 by their site count

One of mine shows as 735 words, even though Word has the correct word count.

@old_prof, you have forematter, the title, and below this line, line so no it wouldn't be if you were one word short by their count.

This reads as 22 words in Word.

A short-short story

Below this line are exactly 750 words

I have no idea why that is underlined or how to un-underline it.

That's exactly what I am going to do as an introduction to my 750 word vignette. I am also going to take a screenshot of literotica's editor screen showing a 750 word count for my story. I will also include a note in the note field stating that I used their counter and their editor and the story is exactly 750 words. If it should get rejected because of word length, I have a screenshot and I will submit that as a bug report.

Since I started using the Lit editor’s word count, I’ve not seen a mismatch between that and the published story.

Anyway, I have a quartet of 750s this year, the first scheduled now for the first.

My one and only entry is ready to go. I'll submit on Saturday and hope it makes it in sometime next week since I'll be away on February 1st.

Three words didn't sound right.

Ordinarily that might be easy to fix but when you're at 750 words in a 750 word story...

Well, 45 minutes later, the issue was corrected and it was a better ending as a result, but rather than continue reading and risk finding another word here or a few there, I hit submit and am done with it!

I just wanna clear something up - we're tagging 2026 this time right?

edit: nevermind I'm an idiot.

"Mistaken" has been approved in "First Time" for February 1st.

Even though it's only 750 words, it's good to have finished something finally after having limited writing time for the past few months due to family illness. I made things worse by splitting that limited writing time over several stories, but one of those is getting close and will be complete soon. Hopefully!

Glad to see you are back.
