The 2026 [lit] 750 Word Project Support Thread

Working on a long-span-of-history alternating-POV story for something unrelated to the 750-word project. The third section was 750 words long exactly, and the fourth is shaping up to be in that region. I really don't want to go back and cut 900 words from the second section and 1100 from the first, but if I did...... I kinda want to do this story as a 6750-word story composed of nine related 750-worders. Won't happen, but damn, I like that idea now.

My A Girl on the Bus series started out as a 750 Word anthology entry, then I decided how far I could drag readers along with short form chapters slowly increasing in length.

Turns out, quite a long way:
A Girl on the Bus Pt. 06
In Delilah's room 03/08/2020 in Mature Stories
4.77 / 223. 17.1k views 15 comments

The Views are interesting, since chapters 3,4 and 5 were each around 12k views, following the typical 30k 16k drop in the first two (short) chapters. Which I put down to a bunch of people reading chapter six twice, which is where the story gets down to the sizzle.

That could be considered a series of chapters. Each 750 word story needs to be a stand alone entity. You can use characters from your universe if you want. I have a series with two couples (the guys are brothers) who celebrated valentines day in a 750 word story. One couple spent Valentines day in a cabin in the woods, the other couple spent Valentines day in Niagara Falls Ont. The series wasn't needed for the 750 word stories, and the 750 word stories added nothing to the series. That's an example of how to tie your story to a series or another work but not make them a chapter.

Is it insane that I have six, yes six, stories for the 750-word challenge?
Which brings up a suggestion for anyone submitting stories for the Valentines contest. There will be a deluge of 750-er stories in February and you may want to get your VD story in before then so it will have at least a few days of exposure. Also, as a courtesy, I plan on holding my 750 entry(ies?) until mid February.

Can I include an image? I want to write a joke story, and the contents of image will be described in text, but I think that seeing it seeing it should add to the comedic effect.

That would be a 1,750 word story, wouldn't it?

There's been no mention of illustrated stories in past 750 word challenges so I don't see a problem with it. Just follow the rules, AI images are forbidden because they... uh... they're... ummm... because they are!
I don't even know how to post an illustrated story, I need one to publish a map for a series I'm writing...

It would probably be considered an illustrated story, and could be iffy getting approved in time.

Back to work on my Lesbian Romance story, which I intend to put up here for the Valentine's contest. If I understand the rules, it doesn't have to be set on Valentine's Day, right? Cause it is more of a complicated love story taking place over a few months.

Wrong thread.

I have a few 750s I'm working on.

You'll need to submit asap. Illustrated Stories get processed in batches, often with lengthy gaps in between. Also, no AI, no nudity in the content. For a 750 Word story, what's the point? Also also, comedy is nearly always in the eyes of the beholder - what you think is hilarious, the next guy is just as likely to think as lame.

Humor is like a box full of chocolates, you never know if it'll work or not, just like sometimes you bite down on a maraschino cherry and others and break a tooth on a nut! Speaking of tooth-breaking nuts, how are you doing, @ElectricBlue?

Got one written. A cuck story in 750 words. Going into Fetish, even though it fits in LW.

Also, @Duleigh, you might want to change the story header in the first post to read 2026, not 2025.

I've missed the last two years but now have one ready to go for this one. Gifted art student meets his former teacher 10 years later. Going into Mature.

And I'll probably expand it and tell it from the teacher's POV for the @Omenainen Pink Orchid event, 'cause why not?

Oh, if I was going to do it I'd submit it as a 6750-word story, with nine 750-word sections, each section spaced widely out in time and snaking back and forth through perspectives until it swallowed its own tail. But it'd be a gimmick and this story is gimmicky enough already.

Yeah, it’s a good thing I graduated from the school of telling prolonged anecdotes while being the sole person laughing at them, and don’t really care about that particular issue. Still, thank you all for feedback, I’ll make sure to work on my timings then!
