The BDSM Book Club Discussion Thread

Thanks for helping out! I'm not here nearly enough. Life is getting in the way again!

*HUGS*

:rose:

Welcome!:rose:

But,

I think we are on this book. Does not mean you cannot read Twist Me too and comment on the comments from a couple of weeks ago, we still remember! :rose:
November
Deviations: Submission by Chris Owen and Jodi Payne.

And next month this one! December 2015

Masters at Arms by Kallypso Masters

Welcome.

New people get propositioned more often.

Also your name here could bring in more.

The good news is that you'll have plenty to add to the asshat thread!

We are happy to have you join us in loving on the books!

I'm so glad I found this thread!
Excited to check out some of the books people have listed. I'm excited yay!

lol Babygirl/Little here...and I get very excited about things hehe

The good news is, I suspect, our thread is not really followed by people who are looking for that sort of thing. That kind of person is going to see the word 'book' and run screaming the other way. I didn't get propositioned for liking twist me.

:):):)
I just did the note because several guys have messaged me who have said that they read through all my posts and made comments about what they liked, etc. so that was for anyone who was doing that

Thank you! I am nearing the end of Twist Me. I enjoy the idea of the book and the general content. I feel the writing is very simplified. But it's good for a little indulgence in a kink I like. I was very happy to see what the book was about, I don't see a lot of books like that. Rather, I don't know where to find them. So again, glad to be here!

You can choose invisible mode in the User CP (upper left corner).
That way people don't see when you're online and it means way less messages like that.

I'm halfway through November's book and enjoying it very much. It's well-written and thoughtful, and it's poking at my heartstrings a bit. Just a little sweet, sad reminiscence, but not bad.

Glad y'all are enjoying the November book!

And this suggestion is very useful!

Yeah, it's honestly pretty hard to find. Of this kind of writing it's either BADLY written or so far into nonconsent that I can't enjoy the book.

Is anyone ready to discuss the November 2015 BDSM BOTM,
Deviations: Submission by Chris Owen and Jodi Payne?

Holy whoa, it's the 30th!

Okay, then. Deviations: Submission

Did you like the book overall or not?

I liked it very much. M/m erotica isn't my usual choice, but this was wonderful.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

Yes, I felt that it was generally realistic. I still want to find just one club like this one, IRL, but other than that, it felt very convincing.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

Ohhh yeah! More on that below.*

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

Yes, very. There was enough story surrounding the sex scenes to make it a genuine book, instead of just a one-handed read.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Yes, I think so. I have a few tender spots at the moment, but I'd like to know more about this couple.

What did you like best about this selection?

Tobias and Noah both felt like real people. They had a few issues, they had history, but they didn't have huge traumatic baggage like so many "erodrama" books seems to feel is necessary.

What did you like the least?

Some of the backstory was coyly avoided, but it was more tantalizing than annoying.

How would you have changed the story?

Can't think of a thing. It was, overall, a very pleasant journey with two interesting primary characters and supporting cast.

*So, the 'more' part. As I've mentioned here over the years, my first Sir was a bi switch who was also slave to his own Master, who allowed our relationship to happen. I've only ever been given a few tidbits of how they got together, etc., but I kinda want to imagine that their initial relationship was like this. I know it wasn't all hearts and flowers, and Super-Sir (our Tobias-equivalent) wasn't a veterinarian, etc., but what I saw of their relationship had a lot of the same texture as the one that was growing in D:S. it gave me a lot of warm fuzzies that I haven't felt in a very long time. My very happy thanks to whoever chose this book. :rose:

So glad you enjoyed it!

M/m works for me ONLY when I can put myself into one of the character's sub head space. I'm not much into constant service, having only a D/s relationship or being bound and yet . . . parts of this were hot to me.

The relationship didn't feel real to me. Things felt forced, rushed and not like a real relationship to me. I know, I know, this is where someone pulls the fantasy card but still.

Do men really negotiate like it's a business deal and then just give all to prove they are tough? I don't see it. I think men are way more emotional than that no matter how much they pretend otherwise.

OTOH I did like Noah, not sure about Phan but he seemed amusing. I am not buying Tobias as the best Dom evar.

Also did not like the references to "breaking" the sub. I understand it means something different in this context as in "breaking through as needed by the sub" but still that word bothers me in reference to human toys. It is often misused IMO.

Overall I still liked the book and it def got me off at times (is that part of the goal?) but the above issues are my quibbles with it.

I'd like to join! What is the December book?

I just downloaded it, and I'll get it read over the weekend. lol

My holidays were/are pretty good. Not as good as I'd have liked, as I got the flu and spent the holidays running temps, but honestly it still worked out. You?

Good enough. There were some storms but it all worked out. Sorry you were sick. *HUGS*

Nominations are open for the February BDSM BOTM.

Masters at Arms & Nobody's Angel by Kallypso Masters.

Did you like the book overall or not?

Eh. It was choppy and the dialogue was stilted and honestly, I got bored pretty quickly. In fact, I didn't finish it.

Do you feel it portrays BDSM in a real way, a positive way and/or your way?

Um, both? I guess it's pretty real.

Did you like the sex scenes in the book?

A few, but kink, in and of itself, is not enough in fiction for me. Graphic descriptions of scene's get pretty boring, pretty quick - there is just not enough that they can do that hasn't been done.

Did you like the rest of the book, the story in it?

It had potential. I really was interested in what was going to happen with the stalker, but I just couldn't read anymore of the story.

Would you be interested in reading another book by this author?

Not at this point - maybe in a few years as the author's writing skills continue to improve - her storyline had potential.

What did you like best about this selection? Least? What would you have changed?

see above

I found Master At Arms intriguing but frustrating. I don't typically like short stories. I wanted to know more. I story I most want to see followed up on is that of the waiter with the slave girl who is pregnant.

Nobody's Angel was better for me. I liked it okay. However, I was not happy with the pushing a girl who has trauma to relive things so quickly with the admonitions "breathe" and/or "just trust me". I suspect in a real life situation rather than fiction she would freak the fuck out and rightly so.

Also I find it hard to believe that the former waiter would suddenly be good at and enjoy so much work at the club "training" subs.

Speaking of training subs, I know it's quite a fantasy but damn it, doesn't every dom/me want different things? It makes no sense to me. AT. All.

Now to other fantasies I don't believe in.

I do not believe in love at first sight. That was a big thing in these stories.

I do not believe that people who are dead will advise you on your love life and send you someone.

I do not believe that a dom will just know what you are thinking or feeling and/or how much you can take and when they first meet you.

But still the women were gutsy. I like that. The men had good hearts. Sometimes they fit each other well and that is something I do really enjoy.

I absolutely want to know more.
