The China Pearl Inn part 9

I think that this time of year with All souls day, All saints day, and Remembrance Day lends itself to reflective thought and memories of those who died G G.

Yes Glad Veterans Day is upon us. In the States it has become a day to honor the living. In Canada and England a day to remember those that gave the last full measure.

Here we buy and wear poppies in honour of the dead. The money raised goes to support the wounded, widows and families.

The American Legion does the same thing here as well Robyn,. But each year you see fewer and fewer people wearing them. I remember seeing the words on monuments "Less We Forget". I fear most of today under 35 crowd has done just that Robyn.

I grew up with Vietnam on the news every night. You couldn't not know of the horrors going on over there. You couldn't not know what war was. But these days, despite the fact that we have been at war in the Middle East for almost two decades, one hardly ever sees anything about it. People today think war is some video game. There is no horror or empathy because it isn't seen like it was back then. World War II was all about movie star heroes and action films, and a few real bits usually seen before a movie started. I don't know about Korea and how it was handled on the television or movies. But people protested Vietnam because they were seeing war first hand for the first time. Suddenly, they realized that war wasn't all Hollywood action films but REAL. Without the draft, we don't see every guy we know in school suddenly disappearing into the military, many to never return. Then, everyone knew lots of people that had gone to war. You asked a classroom of children who knew someone in the military and all but two or three hands would go up. Today, you do the same thing and only two or three hands go up. War today is a seldom seen viewing of some buildings that look like an earthquake hit them and people in ragged clothing standing around looking at them or it is a series of explosions that look like fireworks. We don't see the truth of war.

S F I grew up on Army bases overseas and state side. From a very early age I knew what war was, and it is far from some damn video game.

Why are they selling poppies, Mummy?
Selling poppies in town today.
The poppies, child, are flowers of love.
For the men & women who marched away.

But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy?
Why not a beautiful rose?
Because my child, people fought and died
In the fields where the poppies grow.

But why are the poppies so red, Mummy?
Why are the poppies so red?
Red is the colour of blood, my child.
The blood that our soldiers shed.

The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy.
Why does it have to be black?
Black, my child, is the symbol of grief.
For the those who never came back.

But why, Mummy are you crying so?
Your tears are giving you pain.
My tears are my fears for you my child.
For the world is forgetting again.

I always go to church on All Souls Day if I can CG but I can’t receive the sacrament because back when I was 15 I told my Priest to “F*ck Off” when I confessed I’d used the Morning After Pill and he told me I was a murderer. I’m not allowed to receive communion until I ‘repent’ and apologise to him which I can’t because the old bastard is dead now. I wouldn’t apologise anyway because he was wrong to do that to a child. But even though I’m going to Hell I like to pray for those who’ve died on All Souls Day.

In the Wiccan tradition, we celebrate Samhain on November eve. The work of the rite is to assist those spirits having difficulty moving on to the next phase of life. We have a section devoted specifically to soldiers. It is a loving ritual, a final boon and blessing.

I pray that I will see NONE of your spirits any time soon!

Thank you for sharing that G G. :rose::kiss::rose:

I think hell would be an interesting place, I bet with all the activist and non Christians there it's probably has a municipal park by now.

Really? I kinda like the new Pope but that one is a bold.

She's busy this morning, she has a post due but first she pops into the Inn, securing a cup of coffee, a couple pieces of toast then winks up to her rafter and settles in.

"I like this pope as well. There's a lot to the man."

A sip of coffee. A soft sigh of enjoyment.

"Good Morning. How is everyone on this cloudy cold morning?"

She pulls her laptop out of the ether and fires it up.

*Plops down on the couch*

Morning hon, how are you this morning?

Have you heard the story of the pope sneaking out at night to feed the homeless? I've wondered if it's true for sometime.

I am doing well Cait and I agree with you there is a lot to Francis.

It is good to see you writing again for you are a very talented and erotic writer Miss.

As for hell LF I believe it is of our own making not a place we are condemned to.

G G like all of us who have gone in Harms Way we have seen it.

Now where did I put my coffee mug?

Morning, Kama. I'm off today so it's all good. How are you? I hadn't heard that one, but it wouldn't surprise me. He's truly a humble man.

I'm not a huge fan of religions, it drags up bad associations for me, but this pope has redeemed the Catholics a bit. I hope the progressive bend continues.

CG I think a hell of my own devising is more terrifying than any a church as ever came up with. Our minds can torture us in some truley horrific ways.

*winks down and hands CG a full mug of hot coffee, kissing his cheek as she does so.*

Good Morning, CG. You're so sweet. Thank you for the compliments.

I savor Cait's chaste kiss and am thankful for the mug of coffee.

Its only the truth Cait and the coffee will be all the sweeter because it is from your hand. :devil:ish :D

Sounds like you have a very busy day ahead of you.

I'm not a huge fan of religion myself. I have found them to be condescending, hypocritical and when it suits them, condemning of others. Everyone has a right to religion, this is merely how I feel, what I've learning from life.

I think this pope has redeemed not so much of the Catholics, but faith in mankind. I don't believe the Mother Church can ever be redeemed. Too much water under the bridge.

I have always felt that in the end, we shall each stand and have to truly answer to ourselves. No one can judge us more harshly.
