The conversation thread

One thing I haven’t seen this year is my hummingbirds. I usually have at least 2. The bees and butterflies are out in droves, but hummingbirds are so cool. I miss them.

Hummingbirds are so awesome. I hope you'll see some at least passing through and that next year they'll be some that stick around.

Umb, there are many good reasons to landscape with natives. The birds will sing your praises.

I think I just want it all established without having to do a lot of work.... I don't make enough to pay someone to do so. There are a couple of places that native plant sales each year. I just don't always have much idea of how to arrange them best. Then researching them to figure that out becomes a rabbit hole of looking at more stuff and and and.... Kinda easily distracted over here.

I went to a funeral this morning. It was a graveside service...I sat under a tree some distance from the assembled mourners, smoked a cigar, and said goodbye to my old friend. It was a surprisingly good experience.

I'm glad you were able to say your goodbye. These days are tough for many to be able to do that.

14 skillets? Cast iron and other types? I'm curious about why you have so many and what you use them for.

Unfortunately, I've had to give up my cast iron because of issues with my back and lifting and carrying them.
I have steel, ceramic, and nonstick in various sizes, with straight sides and for saute'. Each have their use along with advantages and disadvantages. Can't caramelized onions in a nonstick, for instance.

OMG finally people who can cook! I actually miss cooking. Between work and where I am living people cook for me more than i like.

It's trying to thunderstorm here. Hot, heavy clouds. It was green outside when I walked the dog about an hour ago. No one else was out. It was eerie and nice, too.

twister, sorry for the loss of a friend. :rose:

What does everyone have planned for tomorrow?

I've got a small cast iron skillet. I need to use it more. Mostly use it for cornbread. Then I have a stainless steel one and some type of non stick one. What all do you like to cook?

We had a bit of rain here earlier. Cooled things off slightly until the sun came out. Tomorrow, I'm going to take some food to a friend and possibly go visit a friend. I really need to do some stuff for work but struggling to make myself do it. What about you?

Good morning! The weather looks beautiful this fine morning.

I'll check out a few more museums today and just take in the city. I'll have lunch at a brew pub before catching the train back south, maybe grab a burger there inspired by Dreamliner. This is easily one of my favorite cities, but it's been a few years since I've been here just for fun. This little break from all things home has been so good and needed.

I feel ready to tackle the 2.5 weeks I have until my vacation. :)

All the garden talk made me wish I could plant more stuff myself too. I already ate my window sill plantations of herbs. The pineapple plantation is still going, although the big plant has definitely started to die. I'm hoping it's to make room for the little offshoots.

Oh, and the pineapple wasn't tasty at all. So I didn't get to enjoy a baby piña colada.

Yo, this is the breakfast room.

I don't think I can ever stay at a different hotel in this city again.

That hotel is awesome! I am so badly wanting to take a trip right now! It's gonna have to wait though. I need to pay off some debts and then maybe.

I was going to do a little herb garden but didn't get far with that. I used to have some great windows in my previous apartment. I've got tons of places to plant here just haven't figured out how I want to do it.

Just finished a nice fizzy alcoholic cherry lemonade. It'd be a while since I've had one.

What a way to start the day, seela!

I was looking for a summer drink the other night, ultrablue - and that fuzzy cherry lemonade sounds like just what I needed! I had a bloody mary. Not quite the summer drink but it was delish.

Fara - how's the pup? Other than enjoying a cuke!?

Cookie, they're so good. It's Mike's hard lemonade black cherry. I liked the strawberry until I tried the black cherry. I have never tried a bloody Mary but I think I'd love them. I just never think about them.

Fara, my pups love cucumbers. If I had a veggie garden, I'd have to use a trellis for them to grow up so she couldn't reach all of them.

I'm feeling sinus drainage. I've always had sinus problems but now I worry that it's covid-19.

I want some new awesome pens. Oh I could use the ones that I have that have sparkly ink. I love stuff like that.

Have you been tested?
I’ve been doing COVID testing since March, yet I haven’t been tested yet. Not even for the antibodies.
I hope you feel better.

I read that cukes are “ok” for dogs, but not in large amounts. I think she’s only had 2 baby cukes so far, and of course, the skin is thin, no wax or pesticides...

I’m writing off my garden this year. She’s having too much fun.
Next year I’ll start off with fencing and she will be a year older.

It’s worth it, because, PUPPY!

I have not been tested. I felt a great deal better today. I have had sinus problems since preteen/teen years. I had a sinus surgery and out took a while but I got a lot better. I've been having more issues lately but I think it's partly all the fur my pets shed and I started smiling again a couple of years ago. I've greatly reduced that and have pretty much not had a cigarette in about a month. Anyway, all of that is to say that I'd be tested all the time if I went every time I felt bad. I have been greatly limiting my exposure to people. I should probably be tested but I hate to use the resources if I'm negative.

(Eta: I should probably be tested anyway because I really do not want to be the reason someone else gets it.) End edit.

Puppies are cute but so much dang work. One of my dogs is a year and a half old and she absolutely wears me out. She was very much a fan of cucumbers but she seems to be not as interested lately. I hope I actually do a garden next year.

Work hit hard today. I don't know if it was actually confusing or if I was just really not with it. I hope I'm not as confusing when I have to do my thing because it sure was frustrating.

What is holding your interest or intrigues you lately?

I've been learning a little about wild yeast and sourdough. I started baking my own bread several months before the pandemic. The wild yeast thing is something I haven't gotten the hang of yet.

What I should learn about is shibari and self tying. Just when I'm wanting to go to munches again they are of course on hold.

Did I miss puppy pics from Fara?

Read her recipe for bloody Mary last night. It was too late last night for it but will have to make one (or three) tonight.

Sore today from shifting boxes around during yesterday's inventory which tells me I've dropped out of shape being lazy again.

I need to dedicate myself to exercising a couple of times a week. Oh! Bite my tongue I don't wanna!

I need it to be November again so I can work outside again without dying in the heat.

Umb, my life got better the day I got rid of carpets. Filthy stuff.

Only my bedroom is carpeted. I'm really glad there isn't carpet in the rest of my house. At some point I'll change the flooring in my bedroom.

I don't think she posted puppy pics but I haven't been online much.

I need to do the exercise thing too. I should start with walking 30 minutes each day. Just can't quite make myself.

I'm just here to tell that I hate people who put their wet umbrellas on the seats in public transportation.

Signed,
Someone with a wet ass

Edit: I refuse to imagine a different option than a wet umbrella that made the seat wet.

Um...sorry. I couldn't wait any longer.

It seems you've already considered it.

Truly. We need it. My hose is defunct. I need a new one. Every time o water my plants I get soaked. Rain would help.

I'm not completely sure but it seems we've been fairly lucky with rain where I am. I just want a pretty and productive garden with all the pretties and all the yummies.

What is something that you really like about yourself???
