The conversation thread

Oh yes, it was pouring yesterday morning. It was umbrella water fo' sho. Yep.

Today it's blue skies only, so let's hope the tram ride won't be another ass wetting experience.

What is something that you really like about yourself???

That's a difficult one! I struggle liking anything about myself or being able to identify any of my strengths and positive aspects. I find I function the best when I keep a polite distance from myself and don't delve too deep into who I am and what I'm like.

But I think I'm going to go with my brain. I like my brain. It holds a lot of useful and useless information that allows me to get free beer at pub quizzes. :)

I look forward to reading what other people answer! Don't forget to answer your own question, UMB.

I like my friends. The quality of my friendships says much about the life I've led. #content

I like that I'm still curious and that I'm pretty open minded. I struggle to be open minded about people that aren't as open and accepting but I try to be accepting of them as well. I'm also pretty good at finding good friends.

I struggle to like myself. Most of the time I'm pretty ok but underneath it all there is always an undercurrent of not being good enough.

Yep. The bolded bit, big time.

Add to that having grown up in a family where if you're good at something you shouldn't make a big number about it because it might upset others.

I have a sister that's 12 years older than me and moved to live on her own when I was 6-7. I always did well in school, but I was told to downplay it so that my sister, who didn't even live at home at the time, wouldn't lose it because she was a less than stellar student. I still feel a lot of shame talking about what could be considered my successes, but at the same time I've always felt like I should do better.

Well that got deep.

gracie, wash your mouth out. You are a healthy, functioning, productive person in your community. The age bracket should not feature, clearly you are a good person.

umb, seela, pause, breath, you are both women that get on with life, productive in your community, and you should be quietly confident in yourself.

D

Well, aren't you sweet! Thank you.

This forum is a great equalizer. Unfortunately, in this country if you start sprouting grey hair, younger folks have a tendency to treat you as if you've lost all brain cells except the ones running the autonomous nervous system. And, they don't know what to do with you especially if you direct more than 2 syllable words in their direction.

Grey hair = loss of respect and you cease to exist

:eek:Sorry for the rant - I shouldn't post when I'm gearing up for work. Know it's not directed towards the majority of the forum members. This is one of the least judgemental places I visit.

I was just stopping in to give Gracie a hug because I love to see her posting. Grey hair and all! :rose:

I adore gray hair! I make it a point to compliment the natural look!

Hurricane drill #001-2020 is in effect.

All items accounted for and properly stowed.

Time-wasting, vegetative second phase of HD #001-2020 will now commence.

(Patience, grasshopper!)

Commencement of the third phase will be indicated by the departure of Jim Cantore.

:D gracie
All shut down with no place to go, nothing to do.

^^That all sounds both horrifying and horrifyingly boring.

I've been picking mushrooms and geocaching this weekend. I showed my old campus to someone who's never been there, which was nice. It's a pretty place. And I saw a hedgehog there, haven't seen one in a long time!

It's been a good weekend.

What's everybody doing?

That looks like a chanterelle, a boleat?, and something I don't recognise?

Mushroom risotto in your future?

Wiki says the brown mushroom is called foxy bolete in English. I also picked orange birch boletes and porcini. The non-chanterelle yellow mushroom is a yellow swamp russula which is one of my favorite mushrooms.

I picked slimy spike-caps, pine mushrooms, sheep polypores, wood hedgehogs, almond russulas and black chanterelles and a few others as well that I don't remember in English and it feels like too much effort right now to check. :)

A hedgehog is a mushroom! I thought maybe the prickly rodent!

Looks like it was a nice day.

Are you in the path, gracie?
Stay safe!!

It's a non-event here thank goodness. A little rain, a few mild gusts, not even a tree limb down.

This is a test. This is ONLY a test...

Shit! Now I have to put everything back.

Beats the fuck out of going out and retrieving stuff. Ingrate.:rose:

lovely conversation thread! Hi everyone.

We are growing cucumbers this year and so far the pup has not discovered they are good to eat. After many years of giving up all of our tomatoes to the pup in spite of various attempts to fence them off, we finally moved them to a part of the yard he can't get at.

Tonight put up 4 quarts of refrigerator pickles.

the weather has been lovely here. warm and sunny in the days, cool and clear at night. nothing like cascadia weather. :D

gracie - glad the hurricane didn't turn out too bad.

I am still only doing take out.... as someone else said, I can't imagine when I will feel safe eating inside a restaurant again. Case counts are going up here and all of the schools anywhere near me are all 100% remote this fall.

my MIL keeps fretting over all of the things that are not happening this year. A calendar full of nothing to look forward to. It's tough.

My list includes cleaning out and organizing my spice cupboard.

I walked past a pub yesterday and the beer garden was packed. I love going out as much as anyone, but right now? No chance. I'm happy with takeout and drinking a beer in my lovely garden!

Happy Monday.
My puppy has ransacked my garden. She has eaten my corn and my cukes. Oh, and all my strawberries.
She stole a tomato, but carried that around as a ball.
Next year, fences.
This year is a wash, although I have salvaged zucchini, peppers, and most of my herbs.

Today I had a meeting and walked. Now going through a ton of paperwork and getting ready to take my kid somewhere.
Enjoy your day, all!

Oh no.
The carrying a tomato as a ball is quite cute though.

That's so hard. My siblings both did well in school so I didn't have that situation. It just always seemed that no matter how well I did, it still wasn't enough.

I have friends that tell me that. I think it's just that when I make a mistake it isn't a small mistake but gigantic and usually well known.

Well, aren't you sweet! Thank you.
